Drug Framework 4

For X-Change Life 0.25.9

Drug Framework 4 is the shared framework used by my non-X-Change drug mods.

In XCL terms, I use “drugs” for consumables that do not work like ordinary X-Change pills. They generally do not gender-swap the player, can have their own durations and effects, and may be taken or applied more than once.

 

Drug Framework does not add any drugs by itself.
Install whichever compatible drug mods you actually want to use.

 

What Drug Framework Does

Drug Framework provides the common systems used by DF4-compatible drugs, including:

• Separate drug inventory and active-drug tracking.

• Drug durations and expiration.

• Support for repeat doses and drug-specific stacking behavior.

• Drug categories, prices, manufacturers, stock information and store data.

• Tracking whether the player knows what drug is currently affecting them.

• Support for unidentified doses, including drugs received through spiking.

• Tracking which drugs are responsible for active side effects.

• Diagnostic information used by compatible mods such as the Pill Diagnostic Kiosk.

• Hooks that allow other mods to react when a drug is taken, identified, updated or expires.

• Shared integration points for systems such as Spike Fun.

• Compatibility support for older Drug Framework 2/3-style drug mods.

Compatible drugs can also supply their own custom behavior instead of relying entirely on the framework's standard handling.

 

Requirements

• X-Change Life 0.25.9

• A DF4-compatible drug mod if you actually want something to take.

 

Drug Framework itself does not require the U666 Effects modules. Individual drugs may require one or more Effect modules depending on what they do.

Always check the requirements for the specific drug you are installing.

U666 Drugs

My individual drug mods are downloaded separately. Pick whichever ones you want in your game.

Some are relatively simple temporary effects, while others can have much more significant consequences. Their individual download pages will explain any additional requirements.

 

Knockoff Pharmacy

Knockoff Pharmacy is optional but recommended.

Drug Framework can make compatible drugs available through the normal pharmacy interface on its own, but Knockoff Pharmacy gives non-X-Change products a much more appropriate home at the Pill Poppa pharmacy and organizes DF4 drugs into categories.

 

Pill Diagnostic Kiosk

The Pill Diagnostic Kiosk uses Drug Framework data to provide much more useful information about drugs currently in the player character's system, including which effects came from which source.

 

Spike Fun

Spike Fun uses Drug Framework for DF4-compatible drug payloads.

The separate Drug Framework - Spike Registry provides the registry used to make compatible drugs available to spiking systems. You do not need the Spike Registry simply to use Drug Framework or take drugs normally.

 

For Modders

DF4-compatible mods can register drugs with the framework rather than rebuilding inventory, duration, store and diagnostic handling themselves.

The framework provides integration points for, among other things:

• registering a drug;

• taking a drug;

• updating active drug effects;

• drug expiration;

• status displays;

• stat buffs;

• drug identification;

• side-effect source tracking;

• spiked-drug application;

• registry rebuilds.

Legacy Drug Framework 2/3-style passages are also supported as a fallback, although new mods should use the current DF4 registration system.

 

Installation

Add U666 Drug Framework to XCL through Mod Loader.

This is an .xcl package and should be installed as a mod package rather than unpacked into individual files.

Then install whichever DF4-compatible drugs and integrations you want to use.
