Just recently found the FO4 version of facelight, screenshots just got a whole lot easier for me and I don't think I'll be needing any graphical mods anymore. But anyway the main meat of this entry is a proper "review" of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 since I've finished the game (twice) and I feel I can properly "review" it, this review will contain spoilers so if you plan on getting the game you may want to skip to the tl;dr.

Spoiler

So after two playthroughs most of what I had to say in this post: https://www.loverslab.com/blogs/entry/7130-xenoblade-and-spoilers/ is still valid, there's one filler quest at the start of the game after Vandham dies (this is technically a spoiler but considering it happens in chapter 2 I don't mind "spoiling" this event) involving a pickpocket stealing Roc's core crystal (core crystals are how you get blades a few rare Blades have unique core crystals) and it just exists to drive Vandham's death home for the MCs as well as demonstrate a blade losing their memory after returning to a crystal, however the event is still fairly pointless and could have been done without derailing the main story, there are a few more but thankfully they're few and far between. Also a note on the main story there are lines at the beginning that only make sense if you've already played through the game they take on another meaning. Additionally I mentioned the combat in my first impression, how I initially found it clunky but grew to enjoy it as I played more it's because of how its set up with two different types of combo, blade combos and driver combos, blade combos are used to add elemental orbs to an enemy to pull off an elemental burst during a chain attack which allows you to extend the chain as well as do a shitload of damage. As for driver combos they can deal a large amount of damage after pulling off the combo as well as boost the drop rates for items (a driver combo goes break > topple > laucnh > smash) this is the primary means for farming for core crystals. As for the clunky part of the combat it's based around cancelling your auto attacks with arts (Each MC gets a unique set of three arts for each blade type) to charge up a special meter (arts charge it up anyway but cancelling attacks with them charges it faster) to pull off your blade combo or just deal a shit load of damage.

Finally the characters, I mentioned in my first impression that Poppi is one of my favourite characters, purely because she's an artificial blade (also an artificial person) and her growth during the course of the game is really interesting since she starts out as a child before becoming a teenager and finally an adult (although her adult form is locked behind an optional quest, although ti's worth getting as she's one of the most powerful blades in the game with the right modifications) and her general disrespect towards Tora (her creator and master) provides a nice amount of comedy which I like. Additionaly Zeke is another character who joins you as the fifth and final member of your party is one who actually grew on me after some of his heart to hearts (basically conversations between characters that expand on their personalities) showing that his boistrous, overly dramatic personality is just hiding a deeper more empathetic personality who genuinely cares about the common person (he's a prince afterall) and this comes through in his interactions with Rex and his own father also as a side I like having KOS-MOS as his blade because of her relatively emotionless persona in comparison to his boistrous one (and I like T-ELOS as his blade because that scythe just fits his entire look) especially where she throws shade at him (inadvertantly) when he says he never fails but she gives him a 54% success rate. Additionally a lot of the rare blade quests did manage to endear some of them to me (mainly Finch whose quest was fucking hilarious.)

Speaking of the blades I mentioned Poppi, KOS-MOS and T-ELOS, these three blades are some of the most powerful in the game along with Mythra and Brighid (Morag's unique blade, speaking of whom Morag doesn't get enough art and she's one of the hottest characters in the game) the general consensus is that Mythra with a full affinity chart is the single best blade in the game (affinity charts are one of the methods of powering up blades and drivers) due to her insane attack and defensiver power (through evasion, not tankiness) however KOS-MOS can do just as much damage, especially with her specials which also ignore defense, same with T-ELOS' specials. But it's Poppi who's the most interesting because her power is linked to a mechanic called Poppiswap wher eyou can swap out parts for her to make her a DPS, Healer or tank (at least for her second and third forms, her first i stuck as a tank) and built correctly allows Tora to solo superbosses which not even Rex with Mythra can do, however before the New Game + this is locked behind a fairly shitty mini game (which is another part of the game I did not enjoy) however this becomes a moot point in a NG+ where you only have to play it once and then can ignore it as you can get the currency you need to upgrade her through travelling bards who exchange it for exp. Finally during the NG+ you can get the antagonist's blades (and some of the antagonists themselves as blades, which is addressed during the story) through core crystals (mostly.)

So TL;DR for Xenoblade 2, it's good but has some annoyances to it and fully deserves the 8/10 rating most people who have played say it has. Definitely my number 2 for Switch games I've played so far.
