Verra’s Story

This takes place after Elsa's story. Verra has been wandering through Skyrim for weeks, if not months by this point.

Family

Her first memory was walking through the forest. It was dark and cold. She remembered her mother's name, Elsa, and her name Verra. An insane mage had kept them prisoner but she got away. She had been stumbling through the forest for the better part of a day when she came across a house. Verra collapsed at the doorstep. Sometime later she came to and went inside."

Verra found a bed and fell asleep for hours. She woke to the sound of someone standing over her! He was a mountain of a man and he seemed just as shocked to see a kid sleeping in his bed as she was to see him.

002.jpg

His shock turned to rage,"Who the hell are you!" he said as he came at Verra with his axe! He hit her once with the flat edge and she crumpled to the floor, begging for her life.

003.jpg

"I'm sorry please don't kill me! I have no one! I was tired, cold," Verra whimpered.

The bandit sighed as his rage passed. "Well this is no fun. I can't just kill a kid. I'll take you to the others, well find something for you to do."

004.jpg

Over the years, the bandits taught Verra how to kill. They would often pit her against other bandits they had captured or sometimes Draugr from the tombs.

005.jpg

She savored every kill. The blade piercing the heart of her enemy gave her a warm fuzzy feeling inside. It wasn't so much THAT she killed them, it was HOW. She like to watch the light flicker from their eyes as they realized they were dying.

Loss

Life with my family is pretty good. Our leader, Orisev, is a gruff orc but he makes sure everyone gets an even take. His sister Rishka, is the closet thing I've had to a mother growing up. She always looks out for me. Two of the newest members are run aways from the Stormcloaks. One of them, Tomen, a Brenton, lousy fighter but great thief.

007.jpg

Some days there was nothing to do and the arguements got on her nerves.

Verra sighed, "Come on guys...what does it matter whose sweetroll it was?"

008.jpg

Everyday she sparred with Orisev. He was helping her learn to use 2 handed weapons.

009.jpg

Verra burst in the door full of energy. "Hey guys! Look at this stuff! I killed off a caravan and they had all kinds of stuff.Um...guys...?"

She walked downstairs and realized the hideout was empty.

010.jpg

She waited for what felt like a long time.

"Okay, that's it. I'm tired of waiting."

011.jpg

Verra read the note next to the door. She was filled with worry. The note said that everyone else went to an abandoned tower to deal with some rival bandits, but that was many hours ago. They should be back by now.

"I need to go check on them."

012.jpg

She went to the tower in the note. On the way, she came across Tomen's body. He was slumped against a tree. When she got to the base of the tower, she saw Orisev laying on the ground. "Orisev! What happened?!"

He looked at her and said, "dragonborn..." then his eyes closed and he was gone.

013.jpg

"My entire family...killed...no, slaughtered." Verra wept for her family but mostly for Orisev. Her pain shifted to anger. "If the dragonborn did this, then he will pay."

014.jpg

Verra followed the tracks away from tower. They led her to a large camp. The scene was that of a massive battle, dozens of forsworn dead. even the hagraven had been killed.

"Could one man really be this powerful?" she thought.

015.jpg

Verra made her way past the corpses. She found her way to an open cave and discovered a man inside. He was looting bodies and was absorbed by his task. Verra snuck up and disarmed him. At the same time, she used a fear scroll on him. "Where is the dragonborn! Tell me and I'll let you live!"

In a startled voice, he said, "He went back to Whiterun! It's where he lives, with his family."

"Thank you," Verra said with a sly smile. "Now runaway you coward."

He took off running. Verra started counting, "30,31,32..." She wanted to wait for the moment the fear spell expired.

016.jpg

"Well, that should be long enough," she thought. She quickly caught up with the idiot.

017.jpg

She let him made it outside, until the sight of escape gave him hope. Then she ran her blade through his back. All he managed to do was let out a muffled yell ,"Nooo."

She smiled devlishly, "Time to visit Whitrun."

018.jpg

Arrival

Verra arrived in Whiterun late at night. She bribed a guard to get in and so far was not impressed with the city.

"THIS is a center of trade? It looks so dull."

019.jpg

Verra found the dragonborn's house very quickly. She stealthily scaled the roof and looked for a good vantage point.

020.jpg

"Hmm I can only see this one room from here." She looked down onto the dragonborn and his dragonbitch. "He's so vulnerable...but not yet...I will take everything from him. He will suffer and then he will die."

She decided to poke around the city and see what she could find out.

021.jpg

She made her way into the Bannered Mare and put on a sad face the moment she entered the door. She spotted the owner and got to work. As soon as Verra sat down, Helda introduced herself.

"Hi, I was wondering if you know of any work around here?" Verra said in a pitiful voice.

Helda looked down and for the first time paid her attention."Oh my, what happened dear?"

022.jpg

Verra told her about the death of her family, leaving out that they were bandits or that the dragonborn killed them.

She also asked about any work around the city.

"Well dear, the dragonborn has taken care of all the odd jobs I have, but you can use the room for tonight. It's the best I can do right now."

Verra smiled weakly, "Thank you, I'll go there now."

023.jpg

The next morning, she went to Belethor's shop. From what she gathered, he was the go to guy for most valuables in Whitrun. She very sweetly asked about the dragonborn's kid but Belethor saw through her act. "Listen girl, I'll tell you what you want to know, but first you're going to try on these clothes and tell me what you think."

Verra was slightly stunned, "Clothes? That's...it. Just try on these clothes?"

"Yeah, now hurry up. I haven't got all day," he said.

024.jpg

"Ummm, I don't know," Verra said. "This is a bit tight."

"Mmm, you're telling me," Belethor said.

The horny bastard was practically drooling.

025.jpg

Verra grinned, "Oh I see how it is. Fine, take a good look."

He had a certain hunger in his eyes.

"Now what can you tell me about the dragonborn's kid?" Verra said.

Belethor leaned forward and in a hushed tone said, "Okay. Fine. She's from an orphanage and...."

Having gotten her information, Verra departed the shop and spent the rest of the day observing the locals.

Corruption

Verra had come to the Bannered Mare to learn more about her enemy but as luck would have it, she ran into his daughter. "This could work out nicely," she thought to herself.

Verra put on her sweetest smile, "You look a bit young to be out so late."

Runa looked up, "Oh, it's okay. My parents are never in the city anyway, they could care less." Her saddness was evident by her expression.

"Hey, listen kid, I have some time to burn, why don't you talk about it. It helps." she told Runa.

"Thanks. Maybe I will. And the name's Runa. What's yours?"

"Oh, I'm Verra."

028.jpg

Runa told Verra about her parents being gone weeks at time and lack of any love in the house.

She sighed and said, "I thought it would different when I was adopted but I don't really have parents. I have people that stay in the house for awhile and then leave. This dress is the only nice thing they've ever given me. It's the only clothing I really have."

029.jpg

"You know," Runa said, "the dragonborn walked into the orphanage, killed Grelod, and then came pack a week later and adopted me. It was like he killed her just for me. But he treats me more like a possession than a person. We never play tag when he's home. He just eats and goes to bed.

Verra looked up at Runa and whispered, "I'll kill for you. You deserve some nice things and it's not that hard."

Runa whispered back, "I'll believe it when I see it."

030.jpg

The two of them got up and started to leave.

"I'll see you back here in a few days then. Same table." Verra said.

"Okay, sure. I'm used to disapointment. I'll be her around 10." Runa said.

031.jpg

A few nights later, the two met as the inn was closing. Verra dropped a sac of gold, an emerald, and a book onto the table. "I told you I'd do it. These are all for you."

Runa couldn't believe it! "You actually killed someone for this stuff?"

"Yep," Verra beamed. "Some bandits, at least...I think they were bandits." She laughed quietly. "Well, it doesn't matter what they were now. Do you like you things?"

032.jpg

"Like them? I love them!" Runa was about to cry she was so happy. "Sometimes I wish the dragonborn would just have an accident, then I could go back to the orphanage. "But...maybe you could be my mom if an accident happened."

Verra grinned. Her plan was going very well. "Well you know the funny thing about accidents?" Verra leaned in closer. "They happen all the time."

033.jpg

Several days passed before the dragonborn returned to the city. He had only been back for hours before going to the inn for a drink. He was stumbling back to his house after drinking. Verra turned him into a pin cushion as soon as he neared his house.

034.jpg

"Ah man! I missed his other eye!"

035.jpg

"So...there was an accident?" Runa asked.

Verra was grinning ear to ear, "Oh yeah! That's why they wouldn't let you go home yet." What about your mom?"

Runa held back some tears, "She says I'm cursed. She disowned me. Told me to go back to the orphanage."

036.jpg

Verra stared at the ceiling and said, "So...I heard they are going to need someone to take you back to Riften. I told them I'll do it."

Runa sat in silence.

"Who said we have to actually get there?" Verra pondered. "Now get some sleep. Long day tommorow.

Runa cracked a smile. "Okay, see you in the morning Verra.

037.jpg

"So, all ready for our trip?" Verra asked.

"Yeah, but where are we really going Verra?"

"I know these really amazing ruins. We're going to stay there for awhile. But first, we'll stop on the way and get you some new clothes. I can't really stand those stupid doll clothes."

"Oh thank goodness!" Runa said. "I'm so tired of these.

Verra chuckled, "We're going to have a great time living in the wilderness. You'll love it. I'll even tech you to use a sword."

"Awesome," Runa beamed. "Two things though."

"Sure, what is it?" Verra asked.

"First, call me Rune. Second..." Rune shot a sideways glance to Verra."Are we there yet?"

Verra laughed loudly, "Haha, don't start that crap this soon."

Verra was happy, really happy for the first time in a long time. The dragonborn was dead, his memory would become a joke, his daughter was now her's, and her family was avenged.

Runa and Verra left the city to begin their new lives.
