SLSF Reloaded - Anonymity

In SLSF Reloaded 3.0, Anonymity got a big update. Now there are three anonymity modes you can use:

  1. No Anonymity (AKA - Anonymity Disabled)
  2. Default Anonymity (What I will refer to as "Simple" Anonymity)
  3. Dynamic Anonymity

Regardless of which Anonymity system you use, if you are considered Anonymous by SLSF Reloaded you will not gain fame.

Simple Anonymity

Spoiler

This is what has been available since SLSF Reloaded was first released.

When using Simple Anonymity, if your character is wearing a helmet or other head clothing, the player will be considered Anonymous unless it has the _SLS_BikiniArmor keyword or SLSF_Reloaded_DoesNotHideIdentity keyword.

When using Simple Anonymity, any item that has the SLSF_Reloaded_HidesIdentity keyword will make you anonymous. This keyword will override the other two keywords.

SLSF_Reloaded_DoesNotHideIdentity only works when applied to armor using Slot 31.

SLSF_Reloaded_HidesIdentity works on ANY item.

Dynamic Anonymity

Spoiler

This system requires Anonymity to be generally enabled in the first place.

If using Dynamic Anonymity, it doesn't matter if your character is wearing a helmet/hood or not. Your character can still be anonymous if you meet certain conditions.

There are 2 internal factors that determine anonymity in any given location:

  1. Local Familiarity
  2. Fame Familiarity

Local Familiarity is based entirely around how much time you spend in a location. Essentially, this is how well the locals of a particular location "know" the player. The longer you spend in a location, the longer it will take for the people to forget who you are.

Once you spend 3 continuous hours in a location, Local Familiarity is activated for that location. Starting off, you'll have to spend at least 7 days away from that location for the people to "forget" who you are and deactivate Local Familiarity in that location. If you come back before that timer expires, the timer will reset.

While Local Familiarity is active, any time spent in that location will increase the time it takes for Local Familiarity to deactivate. Meaning, if I spend 3 Hours in Riften on Day 1 (activating Local Familiarity), then come back on Day 3 and spend another 3 hours, I will need to stay away from Riften for 7 days and 3 hours from the moment I left Riften on Day 3 to deactivate Local Familiarity. If I come back before that time has elapsed, the timer resets and increases again based on how long I was there.

However, if I stay away LONGER than needed to reset my familiarity, my overall recognition time will DECREASE by the difference. Using my previous example, if I stay away from Riften for 7 days and 4 hours, my recognition time will decrease by 1 hour. Therefore if my familiarity is activated again, the timer will start at 7 Days and 2 Hours. The minimum time your can be recognized is 7 Days.

This adds an element of realism to the system where you become known in places you visit frequently. However, if you're a drifter and never stay very long in any location, you're harder to recognize and can potentially remain anonymous indefinitely.

The maximum time you can be recognized for is 365 days, or 1 Year of in-game time.

It is recommended to use mods that make time pass more quickly when performing certain actions (such as Time Flies) and/or mods that require the player to take a break somewhere (such as Last Seed). Purely Vanilla timing makes this difficult to balance, especially if the player never needs to sleep.

Lastly, you can choose whether or not being Thane of a Hold prevents anonymity. This toggle is mostly self-explanatory. However, Orc Strongholds and Solstheim do not recognize Thaneship. Instead, Orc Strongholds will recognize you if you are considered Blood-Kin (via The Forgemaster's Fingers or other applicable quests) and Solstheim will recognize you after completing "Cleansing the Stones" from the Dragonborn DLC quest line.

Fame Familiarity is much more simple. If your fame in any category for a certain location is equal to or higher than the "cutoff" value set in the MCM (default 50), then you will be recognized there and unable to be anonymous until all of your fame in that location decays below the cutoff.

However, bear in mind that Local Familiarity is still being calculated even if your Fame causes you to not be anonymous! So even if your fame falls below the cutoff, you still won't be anonymous if you've been spending a lot of time there!

--------------------------------------------------------

TLDR: With Dynamic Anonymity, if EITHER of your Local Familiarity or Fame Familiarity factors are "TRUE" aka "Active" in that location, then you are NOT anonymous.
