Backstory:
Aelfna was never like most other people. Money, fame, glory, fortune, knowledge, strength… None of those ever mattered to the Whiterun born girl. From the first time she had realized what attraction was, this girl’s sole drive in life was pleasure… but not physical pleasure. Rather she enjoyed the mental pleasure of teasing her peers and feeling… wanted. Desired. From going around wearing her skirts a bit too short to wearing skimpier and skimpier outfits, seeing the lustful looks in the males her age gave her such a thrill. This was helped by the fact that two boys from rivaling families, Jon Battle-Born and Avulstein Gray-Mane, privately fought daily for her attention and giving them a bit of service wasn’t out of the question so long as the Halfling got a thrill out of doing so.
Continuing this way of living for years felt like a blessing to Aelfna, as she didn’t have many worries, and anything she wanted she was able to get with but a word. She thought that she’d be able to keep this up and enjoy life to the fullest, but it wasn’t meant to be. Fed up with her flippant and provocative lifestyle, when she turned fifteen her parents gave her an ultimatum: either to pick up the sword and follow in her father’s footsteps or plunge herself into the world of magic like her mother before her. Aelfna didn’t want to do either, but decided that if those were the only two options afforded to her then she might as well choose the path that wouldn’t mess up her figure… And so she set off for the College of Winterhold.
When she got to the College there was a test she had to pass. Not being magically inclined at all, Aelfna believed she was simply going to fail, and then instead of going back to Whiterun, she planned on instead heading south to Riften. It was a major city that was rather lax when it came to the law and certain… “proclivities,” which was just up Aelfna’s alley. So the Halfling tried her hardest to bomb the test, which for her consisted of casting a Fire Rune, however to both her and the instructor’s surprise not only did she indeed cast a Fire Rune, Aelfna had cast the most perfect Fire Rune that the instructor had ever seen.
Seeing as this wasn’t going the way she’d imagined, Aelfna tried to explain over and over again that this was just a fluke. However, the instructor, an Altmer by the name of Faralda, wanted to hear nothing of it and immediately enrolled Aelfna into the College. Not only that, she enrolled Aelfna into a variety of advanced classes. Thinking that bombing the classes would be her out so she could enjoy a life of freedom, Aelfna purposely tried to fail every single task put before her. However, try and try as she might, the girl had a penchant for magic and in her attempts to fail, she kept exceeding her instructors’ expectations; even going so far as to defeat the Master Destruction Mage at the time in a duel.
Following the duel, there were rumors circulating that Aelfna would try to go after the Arch-Mage next, but she knew what that REALLY entailed. Before getting to Arch-Mage Savos Aren, Aelfna would have to go through Nyleine Soul-Crusher the Best Conjurer the College had, Jylisen Aurelamont the most well rounded mage that the College had produced in quite some time, and the peer that Aelfna idolized ESPECIALLY with how she currently carried herself, Liri also known as The Red Witch. Aelfna was stressed enough with trying to, albeit failing, get kicked out of the College and NOW people wanted her to become its leader? She wanted no part of this! Luckily for her, a week after the rumor’s began Liri left from the College and as to not seem like she was following in Liri’s footsteps, used that precedent to leave exit from the college three months later and headed south toward Riften which is something she should have done over sixteen months ago.
As soon as she got to Riften, she met up with a band of ruffians that wanted to do… undesirable things to her. In her youth this was something she’d realized could be a possible result of all her promiscuous actions. However, she didn’t want anything that they were offering her, but when she needed her magic the most… Aelfna froze up. The ruffians circled around her and were about to have their way with the Halfling, when suddenly a blast of sparks sent them flying and scurrying away. When she looked at her saviors she saw what looked to be a ragtag a group of mercenaries lead by the strongest looking man she’s ever laid eyes on, and a familiar looking woman clad in naught with fiery red hair and looks Aelfna could only hope to aspire to achieve. Stricken with awe from their prowess, from that moment on Aelfna knew what she was going to do, she joined up with the mercenaries and soon became one of the best battle mages in all of the Rift.
Years later, having gained quite a bit of gold with the Shadowswords over the course of the war (with ever changing allegiances), Aelfna rose through the ranks of the band of mercenaries and eventually took over the position that had yet to be filled by anyone since Liri’s, the Shadowswords ‘s Second-in-Command, random disappearance many moons ago. Liri had shown Aelfna the path that the Halfling had been wishing for, both in combat and in life, and Aelfna made it her business to would return Liri’s graciousness to her and their band of mercenaries tenfold. Respected by both her comrades and the citizens of Riften alike, Aelfna soon found herself mimicking her idol more and more, and her attire and combat skills began to reflect it. Showing more skin, utilizing shock based magic more, soon those who didn’t know any better began calling her the second coming of the Red Witch. The more she heard that, the more she strived to do her very best to completely fill the void created by Liri’s absence…
That is, until she finally got a lead. One day some adventurers came through with talk about a nude woman walking the streets of Solitude in broad daylight! Aelfna knew that it could ONLY be Liri, and she started gathering her things to go search for the TRUE Red Witch… But as she was getting ready to depart, Jensgr, the Leader of the Shadowswords, suddenly went missing. With both Jensgr and Liri missing, Aelfna knew that if she left as well that would mean the end for the Shadowswords… And so for a time she dropped everything, turned around, and got right to work… as the Leader of the Shadowswords. However, once the vampire crisis struck Riften, feeling that she could do more good working with another organization, Aelfna disbanded the Shadowswords and left to join up with the Dawnguard at the behest of its leader, Isran.
