Char error: Black (missing?) eyes.

In desperate need of help.

Last night I made the stupid mistake (?) of downloading Steam and installing Skyrim on a different computer than the one I normally play on. Reason being that my original system isn't as powerful as the computer I re-downloaded it on. It ran Skyrim on Ultra High by default and thus I was very excited to check out my mods out there instead. New computer meant having to reinstall several files I wanted including my manager (in my case NMM). Which was OK.

Until today. I tried to re-enter Skyrim through my original computer and my entire save had been shat on. I run Skyrim through SKSE and have been successfully doing so for about a week now until last night when I used a different computer. I've now lost my character, which I worked very hard on creating, so it's very upsetting. But the problem is when I load a save file and enter the game, not only is it a lot laggier than usual, but when I use 'coc' through console command it tells me '(mycharname) is uncarryable', which is fine, because this is the character I created last night, not my original, however, it then proceeds to get stuck on a black screen (as well as the blue "restarting" screen which has happened several times).

  • I'm aware that I'm most likely going to have to re-create my original character but is there a way to fix all of these things?
  • Is there a way I can get Steam/Skyrim to stop reading my temp character's save file and delete it permanently?
  • Could I still save my old char/save file?

I had no clue using two computers would screw anything up.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Edit: All of the above is solved, except for the missing textures/meshes, and bugged coc qasmoke room. :

Other textures/meshes like the genital is also missing. I have no clue why this would happen, as I have been successfully modding my game for a while now. These issues only occurred after signing into another computer. I've ran a game cache verification through steam and it only had one missing, which is now re-downloaded.

My save file that was not there before magically reappeared, which is very confusing. But now my character is broken in-game. The eyes are just dark and won't change in and out of racemenu. When I 'coc qasmoke' the room is also very bugged out. My clothes are invisible, the floor has water everywhere and walls are missing. :classic_unsure:

lol it's very strange

I never installing skyrim on two computers at the same time. don't know why it's collide o_O

it seems that you have a something merge with your second computer and the Data from them is uploading to another?

I can't explain it and I don't know if I think well...

sooo... maybe try on old save file...In racemenu loading again your character by F9 and from scuplt mode too if you have it of course

or make new game using alternate starts to test if everything is okay or not

On a new save, it is the same. But I noticed that in character creation section the male eyes load fine until I revert the sex to 'Female', I must be missing some female files but I am not sure how, what or where to even find replacements. :classic_unsure:

i don't want to tell you that you must uninstall skyrim from the second computer but it is high propability that something collide, for me it is unbelievable but it can work like this:

steam load data from two computers and make that problem by replacing some things

you need to do this: verification of file consistency

english isn't my native so i hope that ypou understand what I mean

edit: but i don't know what's happened if steam detects errors, I never verify file consistency, because I didn't need it

I appreciate all the help, so thank you. I could uninstall it from the newer computer since I have no desire to return after all of these issues honestly. Could you tell me where I could load data through Steam? I might have misunderstood otherwise, sorry in advance.

Just taking a shot in the dark here, my knowledge is very limited, but either your head meshes are messed up (femalehead.nif / eyefemaleleft.nif, eyefemaleright.nif) or your eyecubemap.dds texture that fits the eyes that you are using is messed up. That could be because of a bad installation of either meshes or texture or because you're simply using eyes that require you to have, say, different meshes.

What happened to me was, I was using a custom race which used its own meshes and when I selected a pair of eyes from Eyes of Beauty for the vanilla races, they looked broken, very similarly to yours.

I don't think the links posted above are gonna help you much, as those mods are supposed to fix a glitch that only happens after turning invisible and yours happens in character creation. Now I didn't exactly understand what you did with your saves or mods, but make sure you've replicated EXACTLY the mods you were using with that character, before trying to import her. And also share those mods that you are using so we can see if there are any conflicts.

I really appreciate the help from the both of you. I've so far tried everything that I could (and your suggestions) to fix it but unfortunately nothing changed! :classic_sad: My problems seem never ending because my qasmoke room once again just broke + my body is missing. I've been using Eyes of Beauty for well over two weeks but it has never caused me any problem, so it must be something else causing the issue. I also use a mod manager, so I feel like it wasn't a problem I caused myself.

That being said, I also have racemenubase script + CharGen plugin errors. Ughhhh.

you need propably fresh install skyrim on this machine if any fixes don't work

invisibilty eyes fixes works for other eye bugs too so...if not work, propably you don't find other solutions

or try fresh install only body/face mods first

You can not decently have two installations of Skyrim and play with the same character name for both games, as your savegame will inevitably and permanently get corrupted, hence the problems you are experiencing.

The only way to have a game that works correctly (and legitimately) by wishing to activate several game profiles are:

  1. install MO and create different game profiles with a unique game installation
  2. see if NMM offers the same function described above
  3. if you have installed the Skyrim game in a Windows session for "All Users", as most games support multiple users, create a second Windows User, by this way all save files etc... should be separated. If you install the game for all users no need to install it again. *

Needless to say that you probably will have to revert back to a Skyrim Clean Vanilla state first and verify the Steam game cache too. Also you might have to delete your current savegames as they will be unusuable for the game sessions to come.

Guide:Make Skyrim Vanilla Again

Resetting Skyrim to Vanilla or A Clean Reinstall

* Most games that support multiple users, have all the save games/mods/texture packs and all the other customisation, saved in the document folder rather than the game installation folder. If this is the case with Skyrim as well, then go ahead and create a second user.

I'm actually back to just one computer and have been for a few days. Somehow my eyes just broke when I installed an outfit mod, which is very strange to me because none of the files in the mod replaced anything to do with my character's eyes.

I've also tried freshly reinstalling all body/head mods. Thanks for the tip though!

I'm sure! I read about TES5 but I wasn't sure how to use it honestly. There's a lot on screen and it's confusing. I might just start fresh.. but if I do this do you know if I can save my preset and reuse it in a new save? Maybe it's my load order as well? Not sure. :classic_sad:

I used these two outfits when it broke down.

1. 2.

Missing, broken or conflicting CharGen would be an issue, as for the outfits I've used both before and have never experienced missing eyes from them.

I've had empty eye sockets before usually caused by removing an eye pack or a failure to load eyes which removes the eye mesh from the head which is what you got.

Might want to backup your presets and uninstall your broken CharacterCreator and download a new fresh copy of it and install that. All your presets will work fine in your new install or on anyone's game so long as most of the mods you used to create them are installed.

That sounds like an idea, could you please walk me through it just basically? I'd love to do it without breaking anything else. Also, thanks a lot!

While save games do hold on to the face data its best to first make sure you have saved all the presets in the racemenu from all your saves that you will ever want and have exported the heads then...

Go into your install where Skyrim is and backup this folder if you use RaceMenu Data/SKSE/Plugins/CharGen

If you use ECE backup this folder in your Documents/My Games/Skyrim/CME_save

Uninstall your creator mod and make sure these are absent afterwards

For Racemenu

Data>       RaceMenu.bsa                    SKSE>Plugins>Chargen.dll

                RaceMenu.esp                                          chargen.ini

                RaceMenuPlugin.esp                                 nioverride.dll

                                                                              nioverride.ini

For ECE

Download a fresh one first and extract it to the desktop. ECE is not packed and there is a lot of loose stuff like scripts, tri's, the chargens and so on and so on. Just remove everything from your install that is named the same in the same file location and has the same Date modified to whats in the extracted version and you're good to go.
