Something wrong with save?

Recommended Posts

Okay, so. I've been playing for many hours on this savegame, and never had any problems.
But when I tried to log in today, I get CTD whenever I try to load a new save. If I load the previous save, the game starts, but if I then save, and load the new one, CTD...

Could anyone take a look at the problem?
Or if anyone can help me understanding how the hell I read the Papyrus logs? Because I don't understand anything of it.

Please help!

Just a few questions:

  1. Do you have any additional plugins running? SKSE plugins? Additional dll? The usually don't show up in the files you provided.
  2. Are you familiar with the term "cleaning a save"? Did you already try a save cleaner tool?

Without further information one of my first guesses would be that your last save file is sliiiiiiiiightly below one of those magic limitations of old Skyrim. So as soon as you play a few minutes and save again : DANG!

But to be a bit more certain about that, please have a look at with my questions.

As long as your last old save is still loadable AND if it is that magic barrier, we have an SKSE plugin, "CRASH FIXES" that might be your path.

First htings first:

Please make a backup copy of it. NOW! BEFORE you do anything else. You need both the save file AND the SKSE co-save file

By the way: It looks a bit like you have been switiching mods on and off while playing your game? Not a good idea. Skyrim won't like that and resonds much to often with instability.

Ok. how do i check for the plugins? Like. I don't think I have installed anything other than the mods in MO.
And I've never really understood how the save cleaner tool works. maybe now is a good time to learn?.

I haven't switched to much around on mods, just been upgrading a few mods. And I know the game might not like upgrading and such, but to be honest, the savegame itself isn't that important, it's more the fact that i can't play the game, and continue where i left of. i've tried starting a new save, with exactly the same mod setup. and it doesnt work.

Now, that sounds extremely like your "upgrading" did went down the hill.

Could you be a little more specific, please?

Isn't telling anything. WHAT does not work?

If you want help, then you need to tell us what's happening. Although many modders can create miracles, most of the others here on LL can't read minds.

Something like: Can you start the game, up to what point, e.g. do you get the loading screen, do you get the menu, can you start the opening scene, can you save it but not load it .....

Again my suspicion: Your new mods are either in the wrong load order or your upgrading left you now with some missing masters.

In case of missing masters: Please read the documentation of ALL your modsand make sure that you meet their requirements.

MO might help you, shorten this a bit and tell you en early warning: Watch your right pane in the load order view. Scroll down and you might see oneor more icons with an exclamation mark. Hoover your mouse over it and it can tell you where to start to read.

Alrighty then. What worik said plus:

Have you run LOOT on that load order? AS LAL seems too far up the list. Does LOOT report any errors?

LOOT2.thumb.jpg.ed9f5a0c7999773049da86635ddbd276.jpg

How many plug-ins have you got there?

Does your version of FNIS support the number of animations you have? Does FNIS report any errors?

Bob's Boots CBBE v8.0.esp
Bob's Boots CBBE v8.2.esp
Bob's Boots CBBE v8.3.esp

If they are 3 distinct versions rather than patches then you only need the latest one. I would uninstall all 3 and reinstall v8.3.

SexLabNudeCreaturesDG.esp
SexLabNudeCreaturesDB.esp

SLNC is no longer required if you use the latest version of MNC? Check here on LL for more details.

SexLab TDFAP - Requiem Blue Aura Fix.esp

Are you running Requiem? If not, you don't need the patch. If you are then you are probably missing a lot of patches.

Save Cleaner

Don't install it through MO. Just put it somewhere handy and make a desktop shortcut to the executable.

Click the shortcut and it will open up.

Open, e.g. quicksave.ess and you will get this:

Savetool.thumb.jpg.11cc6d0321f468774f80be0e9e3cbcee.jpg

In the left hand pane you will see that I have Scripts 6216, ScriptInstances 87088 and Active Scripts 19 (I'm running about 150 plug-ins)

In the middle top pane mine says 'No orphan scripts detected'.  This is good.

If it says 'x orphan scripts detected then in the box under 'scripts int hte top L-H corner, type eight zeros. As you type the zeros, the file-tree will disappear entry by entry. You will be left with one entry 'Scripts x' and if you expand that you will hopefully get a clue as to which mod is/has left scripts in your save.

Hit the button 'FixScriptInstances' and it will get rid of them and that's about it.

Net Immerse Override Cleaner

Don't install through MO and create a shortcut again.

It will open a small box.

Click 'Load SKSE save'

Open 'quicksave.skse'

Note the size of the file and % of whole on the R-H side of the box.

Hit 'Clean'.

You should get a 'success' pop-up' and the size and % should have shrunk.

Load your game via the quicksave and see how you go.

You can also do the same with a full, named save. Just make sure you use X.ess and X.skse.

Report back.

Okay.. So.. I'm retarded..

I forgot to run Wrye before I put up the modlist and such. Some of the mods you pointed out isn't supposed to be "active". Like Bobs Boots, the v8.0 and v8.2 is not ticked usually.

Also, SLNC I did not know was useless as long as I had latest MNC.

SexLab TDFAP is also supposed to be unticked. Thanks for pointing this out to me :).

Now, I tried putting my last savegame into the save cleaner tool, and it resulted in the tool just "Stopped working" and shut down. tried 4-5 times with both named save and with quicksave. No luck there, So I tried to rollback a little, got it to work, fired up the game, saved, tried again with tools. No luck.

Went back even further to an even older save, worked like a charm!. guess upgrading a million mods mid-play isn't very smart huh?.

After cleaning the savegame for 26 orphaned scripts! I also run Net Immerse Override Cleaner, and got the result of 812.47Kb and 72,6%. after cleaning, it was 805,17Kb smaller and down 70.3%.. I do not know if these numbers are good or bad, but losing 70% and 800Kb means I have done something wrong with the game I feel.

All in all, the game now works, I can jump in and out as I please, it starts right up, even takes shorter time to load the savegame. Thanks a million for the awesome guide you provided! I never thought it would be this easy using these programs.

As for the Fnis, I only get 2 problems with it. I'm missing 2 animations from zzEstrus. I don't suppose you have the animations

:zzEstrusETC07E1.hkx

 zzEstrusETC08E1.hkx

?. other than that, no problems with Fnis. Well inside the limit

:Edit:
As it turns out, these animations are left out intentionally, from the mod authors side

With both cleaners you are aiming for a smaller size after running them on the file. The amount will vary due to various things. Chopping and changing mods mid-game is not a good thing and one of the consequences is save game bloat which can lead to prolonged load times, crashing and eventually the inability to load a save.

Keep in mind that during the course of a game the save file size will fluctuate depending on what you are doing at the time.

Anyway, glad you are up and running.
