JRCosta Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 A little bit of insight so we can narrow the source of the CDT: - the CTD are after a while (1, 5, 10 minutes of gameplay), entering specific zones, near certain NPC, on save/load, fast travel, loading screens or just purely random? - did you clean your master files with SSEEdit? - have you uninstalled/updated scripted mods recently? - did you tried to run a Save Game Script tool to remove orphan/unused scripts that could be left from removed/updated mods? - since the CTD are more frequent lately, can you be more specific to what mods could be suspicious? - Did you run LOOT to check your load order? - Do you use ENB with recommended settings/presets for your hardware and mod setup? ENB has been updated a lot lately (thankfully). - what your papyrus log states? Sorry for the long list, but I've been having CTD from old Skyrim a lot and it took time to learn all the culprits; SE was been kind to me lately, but I'm making sure to set everything up carefully. Corrupted meshes, script leftovers, bad load order, resource intensive mods and no master file cleaning (awful for some mods) are the usual cause for random CTD. There could be more, of course, but this should give you a good idea of the source.
khumak Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 For me crashes are usually from bad meshes, usually unconverted oldrim ones. Try running NIF optimizer on all of your recently installed mods and see if it finds any meshes using the old format aside from facegen. Also if the crashes are reproduceable, check any mods that are relevant to what you were doing when you crashed in SSEEDIT to see if they conflict with something.

But I forgot to mention they are rare, it's usually one crash in two hours of play. It's just that SSE has never crashed on me, so I suspect it's a mod. I also forgot to mention I have the latest version of RaceMenu installed for SE. 2) No, I did not clean the masters in SSEEdit. 3) Not that I can remember. 4) No. 5) I don't remember. 6) Yes. 7) No. 8) Where do I find the papyrus log? Thank you for taking the time to answer my posts. 11 minutes ago, khumak said: For me crashes are usually from bad meshes, usually unconverted oldrim ones. I do use mods from Oldrim, but I've optimized all meshes and resaved the esp file. I think the problem has to do with a recently installed mod. Also Skyrim SE updated recently. I have it set to update when launched without SKSE64. Thank you for your time.

The latest version of the SE XPMSSE skeleton is causing CTDs for many folks due to Racemenu Alpha 6 SKEE.DLL being unstable with it. That could be the cause of your CTD. I have seen the suggestion of using the new XPMSSE but replace only the ESP with the 4.2 version for a temporary fix. I rolled back all of my XPMSSE to vertsion 4.2 until Racemenu is updated.

Thank you for the tip I will try that now.
Kain82 Posted May 1, 2018 Author Posted May 1, 2018 I've reinstalled XPMSSE which is an older version than the one on nexus, and I still get the crash. The most heavy thing I did recently was I let Skyrim SE update, because I wanted to use 'Schlongs of Skyrim' full version. I had not played the game for months and just came back to it two days ago, and heard of the full version of SoS being released for SE. The crashes are not that frequent I just wanted to give a heads up to anybody using any of the mods I use. I will keep tinkering on my part.
JRCosta Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 My advice is to clean the master files and make a copy of your latest save game then clean it with a save tool; those are good steps to make sure your mods run as they should and without rogue scripts. After that is done, if the CTD keep coming with the same frequency, we can look elsewhere for the problem.

When I first installed Skyrim SE I cleaned all the masters except the Skyrim.esm, like I did for the classic version. But when I would try to run SE clean with no mods installed, it would CTD after the logo screen. I've been playing SE for over a year now and it's only recently that it started to crash. The game has never crashed for me in over 200 hours of play. I will clean the save with the tool you linked. Thank you.

IMO cleaning the master files for the base game really isn't necessary and for someone who doesn't know how to do it properly it's probably more likely to cause issues than fix issues. IMO that's what USSEP is for, to fix issues with the base game. I've never cleaned the master files for the base game and have run with about 150GB of mods for over 1000 hours with no crashes at all aside from initial mod testing. In pretty much every case where I ran into a crash it was either a hard conflict between ESPs, or a bad mesh, or a navmesh issue. For the ESP conflicts you can either make a patch or uninstall the conflicting mod depending on how severe the conflict is, for a bad mesh NIF Optimizer is your friend, for a navmesh issue I'm clueless so I just uninstall the mod if I have that problem.

Those are are two different things; cleaning the masters assure you that the original references, where the modders base their work, are there and not deleted by the update, dawnguard, dragonborn and hearthfires masters. USEEP fixes (a lot of ) game issues. Both are useful for a better game experience when you use mods. And if your setup runs flawlessly doesn't mean it can run into problems in the future.
