Distortedrealms Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 So I can usually problem solve skyrim annoyances myself, I am running a stable setup that I have been using for a long time, 200+ mods, crash fixes, enboost, Matorsmash, FNIS, all pre-requisites for HDT, bodyslide, etc all properly installed but a new problem has arisen and I think it is related to Win10 and maybe an update. My game has a steady 60fps, little to no stutter, but now during play a strange thing happens randomly, though not often, all character and npc sounds (weapon draw, footsteps, talking, etc) will just stop, but the wind sound will continue unabated and my game continues as normal for about 10 seconds, then the game will lock up for about 30 seconds with wind sound and will return to normal. Very strange, and Ctrl alt Delete will not open task manager until skyrim returns to normal and then it nwill minimizes the game. So not only skyrim but also the system locks up until skyrim returns to normal. Question is, has this happened to any of you?

The game would lockdown, exactly like that, when it returned all the sounds that were not playing would play all at once and the game would resume normaly for around 30 mins. In this case, it was my hdd, things like that would happen with many games, not only skyrim, but wow, overwatch, pubg, terraria and many others. I bought a new one, and haven't has any issue like that ever since, don't know if your problem is the same, but in my case, that's what solved it.
Distortedrealms Posted April 5, 2018 Author Posted April 5, 2018 Damn, exactly what I feared and I think you may be right as I forgot to mention the sounds would come back all at once just like you experienced. All S.M.A.R.T tests have come back clean but I have noticed a few BSODs in the last few months while playing games (Especially Skyrim) with kernel_data_inpage_error 0x0000007a which results show as an imminent failing drive on the horizon but like I said HDD tests with diagnostic tools have given green lights across the board. But the disk is from 2015 and I have had to do 2-3 chkdsk /f /r on it and fix bad sectors so its time to replace. Tommorow I am going to go get a new one. Cheers for the help.

Tommorow I am going to go get a new one. Three years of use and you have bad sectors? That's not good ... If I may give you some advices concerning your HDD: 1. At high temp your HDD may fail to work correctly, keep a good airflow as it will impact the lifespan of your material, your case being free from dusk. 2. Beware of shocks and do not subject your hardware to untimely Hot Reboots, avoid them to the maximum, unless you have software or hardware stability issues and that's bad too. 3. Keep your harware safe from micro-power cuts. Your power supply must be adapted to your equipment. To tell you that I have two of the five HDDs dating from 2008 and they still work without problems in Raid array. Keep them safe and have a nice day.
Distortedrealms Posted April 5, 2018 Author Posted April 5, 2018 That is impressive the age of your hardware. I decided to splurge and get a 1tb ssd that was on special on newegg, made sure to match it to my hardware. thanks for the helpful advice.

Spoiler My rig is a dinosaur compared to the current configurations, but I have not reached its limits yet ... It's always a pleasure to help, have a good time.
Distortedrealms Posted July 22, 2018 Author Posted July 22, 2018 Okay, so it took months ( really I have not played much skyrim in that time because of the annoyance) but I found the problem to this dilemma and I am writing it here for others to see (In my quest to solve this annoyance this thread would pop up in all searches using google) So the other day I decided to really do some digging around to get to the bottom of the problem. I started up Skyrim, walked around, picked a fight, and boom, 30 second freeze then my game would continue after that time with a jumbled mess of noise for a second and I could move around again. I took a look at the time and opened Event Viewer and noticed a warning at the exact time the freeze would happen. the event id was 129, and the source iaStorA with the message: :Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued. Interested I restarted the game waited for the next freeze and same message at the exact time of freeze. Long story short my sata controller was going wonky because of bad communication and would reset hence the long freeze. My sata drivers were up to date so I downloaded older ones to see what would happen, the problem persisted, so I downloaded the latest driver again and somehow the problem is fixed by doing that. Iguess the driver became corrupted or some such and downloading it again did the trick. Thanks for the help again to the above posters, I honestly though it was a bad HD showing its death throes honestly but it turned out to be something I would never have thought of so.... whew haha Cheers
