[/quote'] The answer really depends on precisely what effect are you trying to achieve, exactly what you have you done so far, and what the results have been. Without knowing more, the best I can do is give you a generic answer. There are two major ways to achieve an oily/glossy skin effect in Oblivion. One is to manipulate the Glossiness atribute of the Nif. You can do this by hand using Nifskope, or use a program like glossmax ( http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/41213 ). The other is to install a skin pack that includes very shiny normal maps (such as the optional oily skins in Ozmo's textures http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/20022 ). To get a really glossy effect, do both. Let's start with the easiest route. 1. Download glossmax 2. Extract GlossMax-41213-1-0-0-1.zip somewhere convenient so that you can find it later 3. Open the folder that you extracted Glossmax into 4. Double-click on GlossMax.exe 5. You should see a small program window with the message "Drop Nif Files here. New Glossiness = 100" 5.a It looks like we're going to need to find some Nif files. 6. Open your Oblivion game folder. 7. Navigate to Data/Meshes/Characters/_male 7.a You'll probably see a ton of .kf files. Ignore them. 7.b Look for femalefoot.nif, femalehand.nif, femalelowerbody.nif, femaleupperbody.nif 8. What are you waiting for? Select those four files and drag them into the glossmax window. 8.a Read the success message and pat yourself on the back. Your body, but not your head, should now be nice and glossy. 9. Feel free to do the same with any other meshes that you want to make glossy. Now, you may notice that I haven't told you about the head. That's because if you are using a vanilla race, you'll probably need to extract the head mesh from the oblivion.bsa with bsa commander http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/3311. I leave you to learn that on your own for now. If you are using a custom race, chances are good that it came with a custom head mesh. You'll need to figure out where it is kept and give it the same treatment that you gave the body mesh.
RandomUser88 Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Regarding glossiness I have a question. I downloaded patzy's Sophitia's armor DMRA conversion. While the top shows the glossy skin correctly, the legs don't, and I was wondering if I could do the same with glossmax. Using a chocolate elf, by the way.

Don't think that was him. *cough* Anyway, you should be able to use glossmax with just about everything. If you find that it isn't very noticeable after using glossmax, open up the GlossMax.ini using notepad and change the glossiness setting to 200. Though if you want stuff to really shine, set the glossiness to 1000. And no, it shouldn't affect clothing or armor.
ahrimangame Posted September 9, 2012 Author Posted September 9, 2012 @Gerra6 First of all thanx alot for trying to help, Yep i did already that no matter how much i change the amount of gloss, nothing will happen! i did also try nifskope method! but nothing!!!!!!!! Any idea what is blocking the effect?? it should be something im sure! could it be a mod or something? Also keep in mind that if i download an already glossed race it will work perfectly!!! its just i cant add the effect my self no matter what! like something is blocking it
rawheadrex Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 You can try with Photoshop or any other program that reads DDS files. You need to edit the Alpha channel of the Normal Map texture.

Compare the top with the bottom. The bottom is glossy like her usual skin is, but the top is not.

Just checked the one I did, the lower body has a glossiness of 100, and the upper body has a glossiness of 10 (hands are also at 10). It was my very first conversion, I had zero idea as to what I was doing Go ahead and run it through GlossMax, should fix it.

So you could simply grab Ozmo's textures and run his install tool. For whatever reason, your copy of oblivion is ignoring the glossiness settings when it renders meshes. This is probably either an issue with your graphics settings or your video card. This could be a very complex issue to solve, but for starters be certain that HDR is enabled.
ahrimangame Posted September 26, 2012 Author Posted September 26, 2012 oh! i always use bloom instead of HDR, i will try that tonight. btw is there anyway to make textures glossy like those races?
Happysparkles Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Oh my I know your pain. I have stuggled with this for almost EVER. And I've tried Everything known to man but then I had a breakthrough. I found this Posting right here. ↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓ http://www.loverslab.com/showthread.php?tid=2694 ↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑ It helps of course if you have Photoshop but if not you can also do it on Gimp (I will search for one for you if you need it) Now my girl looks like this thanks to that tutorial Uploaded with ImageShack.us Though of course I have my setting to 10k and VERY high for the base body. You can always do a subtle number and get something like this... Uploaded with ImageShack.us I do help this is somewhat helpful for you. And good luck glossing.
