How to fix female sultry follower voice/dialogue?

Recommended Posts

I noticed that if a custom female follower uses Female Sultry voice type, some of the lines she says (e.g. when player initiates dialogue with her) are missing audio files. The game shows the subtitles but she does not say anything.

How can I fix this using Creation Kit? I do not want to use mods such as Relationship Dialogue Overhaul, because I want to fix only the followers with Female Sultry voice type.

As far as I know, RDO is the ONLY way to fix the FemaleSultry voiced followers. It sucks, I know, but it's better than having an edited version of the FemaleYoungEager voice for the vast majority of the stuff.

However, I haven't heard of subtitles but no voice. Maybe scripts and stuff are preventing some dialogue? When you say "custom", do you mean a vanilla follower with a unique face? Say, for example, Moniko? Or do you mean a follower that uses the FemaleSultry voice with dialogue that's been spliced (Selene Kate, for example, or Misty Skye - "putting dialogue together", if you don't know what I mean)? If it's the latter, then that's probably the problem; not enough dialogue has been made to produce sound every time the player talks to the NPC. If it's like Moniko, then I have no idea, my apologies.

Using RDO would be a great choice. May I ask why exactly you don't want to use it? It adds more to the immersion, and you're even able to use NPCs such as Gelebor, Valerica, Isran, Vex, Brynjolf, Karliah etc when you meet the requirements (completing the questline, mostly. For the Thieve's Guild, you need to be Guild Master too. Valerica needs to be in her study in Castle Volkihar etc etc)

I have a feeling you're thinking of Follower Commentary Overhaul? That's the one that expands follower voices to say a lot more random stuff - say for example, Mjoll talked about cliffracers and stuff. Now, every NPC with the FemaleNord voice will talk about cliffracers and whatnot. Same goes for FemaleYoungEager, and FemaleEvenToned for example - since it all draws from the same voice, it allows followers to have a lot more things to talk about. Although, RDO does this too. I don't actually know which changes what/who, off by heart, I'm afraid. I just know both expand follower dialogues. I use both, and they seem to get along okay, with RDO at the bottom. I don't like when followers talk every 30 seconds, so I use FCO to shut them up (although some times it doesn't work).

Sorry for a lot of meaningless text, I got a little carried away I guess.

TL;DR I'd recommend using RDO, as it's definitely worth it, but fixing your problem, I've never heard of it, so I can't really help, just give some pointers/advice/opinions. Try adjusting your load order or something? LOOT isn't the most accurate thing to use, if you're using it - gives a good starting point, but you've got to adjust it yourself to make things work as you want them to/intended. So try putting that mod at the bottom, see if that works?

Oh, I have Fuz Do Roh mod installed. I think that is what causes this. I believe that if I uninstall that mod, the FemaleSultry followers will switch between FemaleSultry and FemaleYoungEager dialogues.

Oh :frown: That is too bad. I am avoiding installing too many mods as I want my games to be cleaner and my saved files smaller.

Here is my new question, HOW DOES Relationship Dialogue Overhaul fix the FemaleSultry follower dialogue? I mean, surely it's doable. I just hope someone can teach me

No need to uninstall that, it helps immensely with stuff, and it's highly recommended by most mod authors who can't find a voice actor for their mods.

What I mean by using the FemaleYoungEager voice, is that Bethesda basically reused lines from the voice, edited them in an audio editor (Audacity, for example (what they used, I don't know, but you get what I mean, right?)), so the lines from FemaleYoungEager sound roughly similar to the FemaleSultry voice, but you can definitely tell that it isn't the FemaleSultry voice. If that makes sense?

That gives a good example of what I mean. This is essentially what RDO does for the FemaleSultry voice

That's understandable. If you need to, and/or have a lot of follower mods, I recommend using Merge Plugins to create a single esp for them.

As for RDO, it doesn't make much of a difference to games, as it isn't script heavy.

If you haven't visited the page already and been to the questions area, this is from the page:

"Q: Is RDO script heavy?
A: No, not at all. The "heaviest" script is the one that makes up the MCM, which only runs when you open RDO's MCM. It's also not a very "heavy" script, it just simply large in size because of all the different features and options it allows you to configure. All of the other scripts in RDO are no different than those you find in the original game. In fact, some of them are actually written more efficiently than similar ones you'd find by Bethesda. There's nothing that's actively checking around the player or constantly polling for updates all the time.
In case I wasn't clear: RDO is NOT script heavy!"

So it shouldn't make a difference to your games at all. However, I don't know much about save game bloating and stuff, apart from the fact that if you take away a script heavy mod midgame, it'll contribute to the bloating. I run a VERY mod heavy game, and most of my saves are roughly 18MB when really getting into the game (at the moment, I'm at 12MB. The highest I've ever had was 80MB per save or something stupid - this is because ->). The only problems I've had with bloating is with things like Blackthorn Manor (but I've found a small workaround with that) and other things like that, due to the building and stuff, adding it all in one by one when done normally.

As for HOW RDO fixes the FemaleSultry follower dialogue, that YouTube video is essentially what it does. It just assigns some FemaleSultry lines from various NPCs, to replace the pathetic attempt Bethesda made trying to get the FemaleSultry follower lines done. I don't know which NPCs use those lines, but they are from Skyrim, not an outside source or whatever. Without bulking this text out even more, look at part 7, the in depth description, on the mod page. It

Other information about RDO:

RDO also puts back into the game an unused NPC, Terek, who is essentially a squatter, living inside Breezehome. There's more information on him on the Nexus page, but if you want it to be a surprise, go visit him. But there's an MCM option to disable him, if I remember correctly (I never get rid of him, he isn't hostile or anything, and he needs a place to live :frown:;)). It also adds various followers around Skyrim (not that many, but an example is the female Argonian follower in Riften), which essentially proves that they can now be used as followers. If that makes sense. If you find an NPC you don't want to RDO to affect, you can do that in the MCM.

There's also a nice, cheat/OP Pacification spell you can use if NPCs are fighting each other for whatever reason. It's pretty cool. Just thought I'd tell you in case you have some bug with an NPC being hostile when they shouldn't be (wouldn't be due to this mod - that bug is present in vanilla/base Skyrim)

One of the best things about this mod, however, is that you can set a specific NPCs relationship towards you, and make them a follower, or even a marriage candidate. You can also set their aggression and morality(what crimes they commit), which really cuts down on the console usage.

Anyway, again, sorry for more meaningless/unrelated text, just thought you should know, if you plan on using RDO.

I think the young/eager vs subtitles thing is down to the unofficial patch. The vanilla game is missing lots of sultry follower dialogue completely, so plays no sound and puts up subtitles, and the unofficial patch injects young/eager dialogue into those lines instead. (Or it's the other way around.)

There used to be an individual sultry follower voice fix on nexus. If I remember correctly it was done by the same author and he took it down when the fix was incorporated into RDO. I used to have the version that worked with EFF but I think I got rid of it when I started using RDO as I can't find it any more. It included quite a few sound files as well as some scripts. Without those sound files you wouldn't be able to fix it yourself.

I'll have another look to see if I can find the version I used to have installed. I've got old mods all over the place. But I would also recommend RDO if you have the room in your load order. (It does have quite a few patch esps depending on which other mods you use.) It works very well and isn't heavy on scripts, as its description says.
