Help with Wrye Bash

Recommended Posts

So I'm a total noob with using this apparently versatile tool. I have been having trouble finding answers to a few questions though.

I'm working my way back through a new install after apparently exploding my last one, and am trying to use wrye bash to set up this bashed patch thing. It tells me that the MBPP and x117 esps are all mergeable, and I thought it would be nice to do that to clear up my load order a little. But even though it says I CAN merge them, their text is green, yada yada, no mods are showing up in the merge mods thing when I right click the bash patch and go to rebuild it. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? The WB website and UESP wiki have both proven unhelpful, and I feel like its something that should be obvious, but I just don't know.

o.o

thanks in advance

Ah, I see your problem.

Important note (EDIT): mrpouit is right, only mods above the bashed patch in your load-order will be included, so move your bashed patch as low as possible (preferably, you'd have all non-lovers ones above it, and all lovers-mods right below it)

I'll guide you through it, step by step. (I can't make pic's atm, though)

0: Go to the mods-tab.

1: (optional, although highly recommended) Right click on the file button (the one used for sorting), and go to load/save list. This way, you have a backup of your current activated files. IT DOES NOT SAVE THE ORDER!

2: VERY IMPORTANT!! Deactivate ALL Lovers-mods. They do not like to be bashed. The fastest way is to deactivate lovers with PK. Note that TamagoClub has to be deactivated separately, as does HiyokoGenerator, which is independant of any of the earlier mentioned mods. I also suggest you deactivate "UOP vampire aging and Face Fix.esp"

Wrye can implement that in the bashed patch, but won't deactivate the plugin by itself.

3: You should have a "Bashed Patch, 0.esp", right-click it and select Rebuild patch.

Wrye will mention that certain mods can be merged, and should be deactivated. Just click OK.

4: Now, you'll get a new screen, named something like "Update Bashed Patc, 0.esp"

On the left, you'll find the options. In general, you should look through them all, to check anything you need. The one we're interested in, in this case, is Merge Patches. Check that box, and then select all mods you want to merge in the menu on the right. Now you're all set. You can make your patch, or read on for some other useful options.

Things I also recommend are:

I personally suggest you toggle all the import-options in the left menu, along with selecting all mods in the right menu (per import-type).

Also might want to activate Tweak Actors, specifically: As intended, Quiet feet, and the vanilla beast skeleton tweaker.

Tweak Assorted: All playable (armor, clothing), Magic script effect silencer, Nvidia Fog Fix (if you're using an Nvidia-card, that is), Reweigh (arrows, ingredients, potions (max))

You might want to check Tweak Names, especially Lore Friendly Names.

Tweak settings: UOP vampire aging and Face Fix.esp

Contents Checker

Leveled Lists (will auto-detect)

Race Records: (any race-mod you have active)

SEWorld Tests (IF you have SI, that is)

Now, after you've set those settings you want or need (I don't need the COBL settings, for example, as I don't have COBL), you can click on build patch, and let Wrye do the rest.

The last thing to do is to reactivate the lovers-mods again, which I suggest you do manually, because if you load the earlier load-list, you'll also activate the merged mods.

Hope this helps.

Yes, but it messes up lovers. I wouldn't recommend it, unless you're planning on manually sorting those out every time. 'sides, there are lots of (good) non-lovers mods BOSS doesn't recognize, either.

Well I didn't say to disregard what you said just to use Boss, you can still use it and then deactivate Lovers, etc, rebuild bash and then activate esps again. I'm just saying BOSS 95% of the time is going to make your life easier.

True, but boss doesn't recognize all lovers mods, meaning that they'll be placed at the bottom. IdleAnimsPriority and IdleAnimsObjectsPriority are recognized, and will be at the bottom of the boss-sorted part. Meaning: you'll have to move those manually down to the bottom.

Any non-lovers mod which isn't recognized should then be moved above the bashed patch, because it won't be bashed otherwise.

Honestly, it's a fine tool, but once you install lovers, you're better of by manually sorting your order altogether anyways.

Since this thread is already here, I'll just ask my question regarding Wrye Bash here instead of making a new thread. Can someone give me advice on which file I should include in the bashed patch with my current load order? I tried creating a bashed patch before and it gone horribly wrong and I was forced to reinstall everything because of that(quite new to this modding stuff you see). Here's my load order:

Also regarding xeoex.esp.. Should I include it in my bashed patch or leave it alone? I know that it's supposed to be place in or near the bottom of my load order in order to avoid problems with and that's what prompted me to ask this. And one final thing. Let's say if I screw up in creating/rebuilding my bashed patch, if I disable able it from my load order will my game function the same like it was before I created the bashed patch or will it stay screwed up? I'm attempting to create my bashed patch now and I really need some advice.

There is no need to reinstall if your bashed patch goes awry. Just redo it and your fine (the bashed patching does not alter any files other than the bashed patch). I would move all your lovers files to the very bottom with the bashed patch just above them. Remember to uncheck all lovers mods (you don't want any of them in the bashed patch!!!!). Other than that include everything that wrye will let you.

Okay. One last thing, what exactly does a bashed patch do to my modded game? Does it improve it any way like reduce chances of crashes or is it okay to continue playing without it?

Posted

A bashed patch will greatly improve your game by reducing crashes and reducing mod conflicts as it blends things together. Sure you can play without it but to do so is like buying a Yugo when for the same money you could have a Porsche.

Have fun!!!!

I just tried creating one and the results were not pretty. The Chanpon race that I had no longer had eyes in the character creation menu. It was freaky.

There are several ways to fix this. The easiest for you may be to just remove this particular race from the bashed patch. I would fix the eyes via TES4Edit.exe but if you have never used this then you may just want to stick with removing it from your bashed patch.

Let me know if you don't know how to do this and I can walk you through it.

They have exactly the same date/time of last modification (and Wrye Bash usually "thinks" they are two versions of the same mod that shouldn't be activated at the same time, e.g. Mod_for_oblivion_vanilla.esp and Mod_for_OOO.esp).

actually red means missing masters, from what i could remember. just put you mouse pointer on the red mark and at the bottom you would get a description what that is.

At the bottom should be a help file, click on it and it will explain to you what colors means. At least this is the way fallout works, not sure about oblivion,

Yeah, red text means missing master. But here, the text color is black and the line color is pink, which should mean what I wrote above (you can check the doc to confirm).

Indeed, in this case it doesn't cause trouble because one of the plugins is disabled. Strangely, moving things about in the load order doesn't fix the problem but moves it to another file. I usually repair it by right clicking the file and selecting the redate option.

When I try to install Sensual Walks for female ncps I get this:

Please activate the Animations Installer first - Installation aborted

I looked for animation installer in the wrye bash and I cannot find it.

I found this in wizard.txt

; Check that the Animations Installer has been run
; ------------------------------------------------

If not DataFileExists("Meshes\\Characters\\_male\\specialanims\\0FemaleVariableWalk_Commoner.kf")
Cancel "Please activate the Animations Installer first - Installation aborted"
EndIf

Where can I get 0FemaleVariableWalk_Commoner.kf file?

Edit: I misread the instruction and didn't install required animation. :D

I checked the updates in Wrye Bash settings. It said my version was up to date but mumbled something, I don't remember what was it. After this whenever I open Wrye Bash the Python27 Command Prompt pops up. Is that a good thing or not? ^^

Followed all your instructions exactly and I just have to say Wyre Bash is a piece of junk except for the Mod Checker option. Did everything right and I just end up getting an error window stating that Quest Award Leveler - Knights of the Nine.esp is improperly grouped even though its not on the list of mergeable mods.

Posted

Rokabur, everyone who has started out using wrye has said the same thing as you so don't feel like you are alone. :)

Wrye can be frustrating if you don't understand it but I promise that once you do, you will never call it a piece of junk.

I suggest you pop over to the nexus and grab this and do a little research. It is a pictorial guide on how to use wrye and also how to properly build bashed patches.

Just decided to put off trying to making a Bash patch til when I need it. I'm up to 212 plugins now and only 16 are marked as mergeable and a few of those can be discarded and tweaked with the Bash Patch.

Sorry for the late response. You might check to see if there is a mod that you have that is a dependent of this one.
