Kamen Rider Kuuga Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 But I hate keyboards these days. They're all light and flat, and when you press the key, you get this muffled sound when you hit it. What happened to the days of keyboards that were so heavy they could crush a puppy? When you could tell just by the feel of them that yes, this was the space bar because the keys would actually rise tall and proud from the surface. The days when you hit a key, it made a commanding, loud thud that told you YOU JUST TYPED SOMETHING, YOU'RE A MOTHERFUCKING BEAST. I miss those days... my keyboard is so thin and light, it makes almost an apologetic sound when I press a key. It can't double as a melee weapon since all it does is slightly annoy somebody if they're hit with it, it's so light and insubstantial. Worst of all, because it's so damn flat half the time I have to look at the keyboard to tell what it is that I'm pressing. USB ruined everything...
GrimReaperCalls Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 You should consider getting a mechanical keyboard. It gives off that satisfying "click" every time you press a button, and they generally feel sturdy enough to bring down a brick wall. Sure, it usually costs a bit more than the classical modern keyboards but hell, it's worth it. I've read apple has a couple of them, but I usually avoid apple products. Instead, I'd suggest getting one from Razer, the "Black Widow" ones have been getting really good critique. Myself, I almost ran to the store to buy one after I'd first tried it out at a friend's house, but my wallet stopped me halfway through the front door...

I love loud keyboards. Mine is blocky, And with USB. With those flat keyboards, I just keep pressing 3 keys at once. >.< However, at the store I tested this type of flat keyboard where the keys are like.. far separated from each other, Those were really easy. I literally typed about 20% faster. However, It seems those are only available on Laptops, for now. So for me, it's either blocky, or those special new kinds of keyboards. Just get gaming keyboards. Those are always nice and sturdy.
Guest Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Ah yes, the keyboards of old that could wake a sleeping person when used. That sound when typing fast was so satisfiying. I agree completely.
Chbaakal Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Damn, I miss those as well. But I've got a Logitech Cordless keyboard that has raised keys, a little more weight than a standard slim keyboard, and have velcroed the thing to a lapdesk for added weight. At least the sound of the keys is moderately loud, especially when I get really, really into a good FPS shooter (additional caffeine doses may be applied frequently to give my keystrokes authoriteh!). If I need to use it as a weapon, I'll attach my 12 gauge shotgun to it with duct tape. Or create a lapdesk that has retractable blades in the sides and wield it like a Bat'leth.
