Fake Subsurface Scattering Shaders for Skins
SSSSS
The Letter S Five Times (Preferred Name)
A "Cheap Hack"

Subsurface Scattering is the effect of light coming in direct contact and interacting with a translucent material or surface and "scattering" at an end point. The result of this effect when light interacts with skin is, in most scenarios, a pink-ish translucent effect (hold your hand up to any light and you'll see). In Classic Skyrim, this effect had been produced through ENB. In Fallout 4, Bethesda introduced proper SSS controlled through material files. And unfortunately in Skyrim Special Edition, we are without this any form of SSS. Thankfully, with really cheap hacks and smart implementation, we can achieve a similar effect. We can even do something with the relatively "flat" or "dead" skin people often point out on characters in the Special Edition.

red light is not SSS and it doesn't look anything like SSS, it looks like pink light, which I guess is a step up from the red light of NAT, it still doesn't look anything like SSS under any lighting condition.

When you're cheerleading rampantly veering on straight up apologism, it helps to actually have concrete facts instead completely unfounded enthusiasm to back up your spurious claims.

Two years from now, 64 will probably be decent sans bethesda's transparently blatant skullfucking of the community.

It won't be two years from now tomorrow, or the week after that, or the month after that or even the year after that.

I would say it's bordering on decent now. With an alpha of SKSE, a working SKYUI, and quite a few mod ports it's coming along.  What does it need for you to consider it decent?

Finally no need for all the memory patches.  My performance is considerably better with sse than oldrim and much more stable (with just about the same mod load/complexity).  With CBP physics and hdt-smp around the corner, win10 fall creator's finally letting me use my 8gb vram (finally off of win7), skse64, papyrus utils, skyui & mmc, bodyslide, oldrim uunp hdt content convertable, SSE fixes (sure you have to compile it yourself but easy enough), a working mo2, mostly working racemenu with the github alpha, along with an ever increasing critical mass of other mods now natively sse (or easily "self" converted if they are not officially done).  I'm certainly a very happy camper.  Ctds are so much rarer for me these days that it is far more enjoyable to play the game.  Got FG SE and SL lite (ashal is committing to full blown sl in a couple of weeks which unlock a floodgate of other content).  Still no osa/osex which is a bummer.

mods like this one here continue to shore up some of the visual disparities.

ENB just update for this mod and makes it look a lot better for the SSS. Boris is still working on it from what I've read up on so it's definitely looking much better. Now for Osex 1.06 legacy you can convert it over to Skyrim SE and it works just fine.  I've tried OSA, but I couldn't get it to work at all, but got the Osex 1.06 to work. All you have to do is convert the nifs, animations and run it through the creation kit. It works very well.
