Only way I'd consider flying that airline is if in the next few days they make the news really big for firing a lot of people, as well as dropping that 3rd party company that is supposed to handle kids that are flying. Somehow I doubt that will happen.
Kamen Rider Kuuga Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 It's called a LIFE LESSON that they gave her FOR FREE. She should THANK THEM.
Kashiwaba Tomoe Posted August 15, 2012 Author Posted August 15, 2012 It's called a LIFE LESSON that they gave her FOR FREE. She should THANK THEM. Um, what kinda life lesson is that for a ten year old.
gregathit Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 It is definitely was handled badly on the part of united that much is clear. The happy news is that she survived the ordeal and didn't get abducted or something horrible like that. United compounded the mistake by refusing to talk to the parents until a reporter started poking around. Hopefully united will institute some policy changes that can avoid this ever happening again. Oh and yea.......united probably has lost a customer for life on this....
Kashiwaba Tomoe Posted August 15, 2012 Author Posted August 15, 2012 I'd imagine that United has lost quite a few customers for life over this.
prideslayer Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Hopefully united will institute some policy changes that can avoid this ever happening again. Like refusing to allow unaccompanied minors (or any minors) on their flights? I'd dance a jig.. (Yes they handled this terribly. I'm looking for the silver lining!)

Um' date=' what kinda life lesson is that for a ten year old. [/quote'] That she should rely on herself, and take matters into her own hands, rather than just hope those around her actually can do their jobs.
gregathit Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 I'd imagine that United has lost quite a few customers for life over this. Na. Remember that people are pretty fickle. If united feels any pinch over this' date=' they will just run a pricing special and the people will come flooding back. Scene at the water cooler of a random office: Man: Cheep flights to Vegas?!?! Woman: But it is on united...you know the airline that "lost" the 10 year old girl! Man: Who cares....Vegas!!! [[i']runs away to fill out vacation request[/i]]

[/quote'] That she should rely on herself, and take matters into her own hands, rather than just hope those around her actually can do their jobs. That is a bit much for a 10 year old.... Unless her parents equipped her with a taser gun. Little girl: Um.....Mam, the person who was supposed to me has not shown up. Can you help me please. Flight attendant: Shut up! I am too busy to bother with you right now. Little girl: [pulls out taser and zaps flight attendant several times] Now can you please help me [smiles sweetly at flight attendant] Flight attendant: Oh....shit....I just shit myself....you want me to help you? ...ok, fine.....just don't use that damn thing again me you little devil bitch!

Kids that young should almost NEVER fly alone' date=' period. It's called a LIFE LESSON that they gave her FOR FREE. She should THANK THEM. [/quote'] That she should rely on herself, and take matters into her own hands, rather than just hope those around her actually can do their jobs. She's 10, not THAT much a 10 year old can do here. gregathit the problem was that she wasn't at her final destination, she had a layover at one airport before arriving at the one where someone from her summer camp was supposed to puck her up. Also, for anyone here who may want to send their kid to visit family, at least back in the 90s when I was a kid Delta was really good with kids. That and I was a real loud mouth, especially back then, I would have just started yelling 'deltas abandoning an unaccompanied minor' if they fucked up. I actually said as much to a stewardess once, she smiled and encouraged me to do just that if nessacary, like I said at the time at least Delta was great. Many good summers with my grandparents.

[/quote'] Yea, I understood. I was just poking fun at BaconMinion. Like I said, at least nothing bad happened to her. I too have suffered layovers at O'Hare. One was 10 hours due to a massive blizzard. Maybe I should have talked to a reporter....got that dad-gummed blizzard in a little hot water....
Kamen Rider Kuuga Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Just because she's 10 doesn't mean she couldn't find somebody that worked there and brought it to their attention that she was alone and was supposed to be helped, riding their ass if needed until she got the help she needed. Of course none of this could have come up if her parents weren't morons and sent her off alone. ANOTHER LIFE LESSON FOR THE CHILD: your parents are morons, never listen to them!
Kashiwaba Tomoe Posted August 16, 2012 Author Posted August 16, 2012 I too have suffered layovers My best layover was in Amsterdamn' date=' flying back from germany after I got out of the Army. Yeah, the kid should have been LOUD and also shouldnt have had to go. I mean when I flew as a kid it was a direct flight, with grandfather waiting for me at the gate.

thesapien Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2012/08/17/soldiers-family-dog-stricken-while-in-united-airlines-care/ Yeah' date=' it seems united is at it again! [/quote'] I wouldn't hold that against United anymore than the guy who put his animals through such a horrible experience of being transported like luggage overseas, especially on a nondirect flight. Those little terrier dogs are crazy freaks anyway, so putting one in a crate with its leash still on, like the owner did (was that policy or his own decision?), I could totally see it tangling itself up, and Houston does get damn hot and humid, so that shit could easily happen with one of those fur ball dogs. Did he shave its fur before transport, at least? The terriers I've known are way too easily excited and panic and would probably experience such a transport as extremely traumatic. Poor little retarded dog likely felt lost or abandoned and trapped in a little cage on its way to hell. That said, I don't understand exactly what happened at the end. If it was still alive when they took it a vet, why euthanize it? Nevermind, I don't even want to know how bad of shape it was in by that time and am just as pissed at the owner for that shit. Even tho I hate terriers, I still feel for them. Sad story.
Kashiwaba Tomoe Posted August 18, 2012 Author Posted August 18, 2012 To be fair, soldiers and their families tend to not be able to choose that much where they fly at times, and we don't know the details. As for the why euthanize part, I'm guessing the vet figured that it wasn't going to make it and was just going to suffer, all I can guess.
