Yeah, i will touch more on fx and animation creation/editing but first, i will apologize for my comments, i was coming from the perspective of a fan, fans just keep asking for more(do this, now this, it would be great if...), i know how it is, and because i know how it is i should be more tactful, yes creating is hard so yeah keep up the good work as you see it fit and you feel content with it.

Now to start is the point of the fx and skeletal animation and remember i just saying this as an explanation for normal dude that comes to this forum to simply look for mods nothing wrong with that, knowing a little more is alway good, so. The part with animations lacking impact like niknerozz said is correct and not the fault of the creators of mods or even the developers that is a limit of the engine, more about that later, see i mentioned that messing with skeletal animation is annoying and the fx are coded in precisely that, the angle of a static picture moving, where it stops, with part of the foe it collides all is in fx so if someone made a skins with what i said it would be great if it had it would need to be coded in a new fx data then what would happen is that other skins would be affected because the fx file is global for all skins. Have you seen someone post a screenshot where the hero is all a jumble mess, well that is because a conflict between a .skel or .atlas files the game only uses one so the rst get all messed up.
yahijo Posted January 6, 2025 Posted January 6, 2025 But then why not work with that new skeleton animation/fx, when modding working from common ground is faster, lets say you are drawing a new skins then you see someone posted a new skin for lets say the crusader for which you are drawing, if that skin includes an .skel data now your skin will not be compatible, what do you do? continue on your uncompatible skin or rework it maybe from the start to use that new .skel?, that is why messing with skeletal animations and .skel data is a slippery slope.
yahijo Posted January 6, 2025 Posted January 6, 2025 On that point also keep in mind that artist have their own strong points, likes or dislikes, what i mean is maybe an artist like to draw but not do skeletal animation and vice versa, as a side note have you seen the mod that adds stone enemies, a fool, a judge, an executioner, a queen... and i haven't seen all of them but they have some great skeletal animations, especially the fool.
yahijo Posted January 6, 2025 Posted January 6, 2025 But then you may ask, why not change the engine?, well i know less about this but i can give you an analogy, the engine dictates what can of game you can crate and what it can do, the engine itself is like square room with tools inside, you can only use the tools in that room to make the game, if the room has no colors the a black and white game is all you get, why not improve or make a bigger room?, time and money, lots of money, remember DD 1 is an indie game, that weights like 3 gigabits, that is small, the developers had to work with that and in turn fan creator have to do the same. I mean i don't think the engine can play .gif animations which is why it relies on skeletal animations, i believe the Raiju add on mod has rain animations but they pulled off that with a non interact-able curio, which is why it has no rain, also why the game can't? have slopes or hills, DD is basically a stage puppet show with paper cut out puppets, the experience is all sell with sounds, lights, angles of the cut outs, etc, and those are coded in the fx files...

So you cant say negative things or constructive critics?, off course you can, just with some manner, harassment is not ok, but also actively interactive with a creators work, a simple " i like it" goes a long way, i mean when i saw that my edits got downloads i got happy. So that means you should not try your hand at modding because is troublesome?, hell no, mess around with the game files, if you break something, you an always re download the game, and your data is safe, change values to your liking, ask for help, maybe you will find that you have a knack for drawing or skeletal animations, or the often overlooked sounds.

Cause once i lost a hero to a series of very infuriating chain of events and almost right after that i found an imprisoned hero, and i think he went away to the hamlet, it would have been very useful to fill my empty slot right there.

If you about prison cell mod - nope, rescured heroes just added as "+1" to stagecoach on next week (and only for next week - if you forget to recruit them they are gone forever) Thats just game mechanic Its pretty immersive btw from roleplaying side (for my taste at least) - you finding (heroes)|capturing (enemies) starving, wounded, sometimes even almost dead - and needed to being carryied into Hamlet almost unconcious (for captured enemies it is also would be need to "convince them to join your party and become friends") Edited January 6, 2025 by Fnakasjg

Like with the Templar, there is a male Templar class, an armored dude with a hammer, since internally both are called templar, you can't use both, and even thought i liked the male templar, no way i choose him over Xelsword's Templar.
