Most mods will not work, not even some skins will function properly because Black Reliquary modifies the game entirely, including the base heroes. You'd need to tweak existing skins so that they would work properly in the mod.
In specific, skins for Jester, Antiquarian, Grave Robber and Musketeer will break the most due the new additions to those classes. Other class skins may work but a few minor things like visual effects and skill icons will be wrong.

Yep, that is as I understand it.

I was wondering if anyone is already moving ahead with mod classes and/or skins given that there are 2 modded(?) class on release. But those probably are extra classes that the creators thought were excessive and wanted to remove from the "main" experience. (i.e. too many hero types over diluting the game)

Someone asked me to modify Xelsword skins so they'd work with Black Reliquary.

Thank you all for this thread. After having had to wipe my whole hard drive this thread has been a life saver, but I cannot seem to find the Lamia NSFW skin does anyone know where I could find a link for it?

The add-on classes are ports of older mods into Black Reliquary, modded classes that were previously created by members the Black Reliquary team into the game. Its not because its excessive but that adding them takes extra work, and they're mainly focused on finishing everything else, enemies, dungeons, balance, etc. That's why Judicator, Dredge and their modified version of Musketeer are the only three new official classes.

Do you plan on doing minor patches to the other skins? A few of them like Helion have a few things wrong with them, like her enraged aura effect being misplaced.

...There doesn't seem to be any vanilla counterpart to these FX, so I can't just use Xelsword's version, because it doesn't exist...

How bad IS it? I don't see it in the .art file, so doing it 'easily' is off the table, but it shouldn't be... impossible to fix.

Reckless Rage is a new skill added on Hellion in Black Reliquary, it replaces her Adrenaline Rush. Upon use it gives her a new status effect called 'Enraged' and an aura that lasts throughout the whole fight. Using Xel's skin, the aura effect is underneath the floor instead of starting around her feet and going up. I snatched two pictures for an example.

'Maybe' it can be fixed by popping it open in spine and dragging the whole thing upwards to match. ...Maybe.

And, you know, doing it five times because that FX has five entries.

That sounds painful. And I have no idea how to use spine. I also recently found another minor error in the folder you posted that Grave Robber's shovel bash skill icon will not actually show up. Feels like porting Xel's skins (and other mods for that matter) into Black Reliquary will be quite a bit of work. I'll try to see what I could possibly learn about it.

Some time ago I saw that someone was making a enemy mode using Xel concept art of the monsters. Does anyone know if there is something out yet? And if yes, could anyone share the bounty?

Still alive and kicking. My laptop that I used to game and do projects on died and I was bogged down with college and unfortunately complicated family matters. Back to my hobby of messing with sprites and game files

Darkest dungeon seems to only allocate a certain amount of space for trinkets. This is good for performance, but when you have too many mods that add trinkets you can hit their limit. To change this, you need to modify a certain file with a text editor. The file can be found at "...\DarkestDungeon\shared\resource_manager.setup". Setting the .max_resource_entries to a larger number should fix this problem. I used ".max_resource_entries 900000" at the recommendation of GhastRiv.
