CTD at Bethesda logo

The last time I played, which was only earlier this week, the game ran fine, apart from an in-game CTD problem I'll talk about some other time when this is solved. I have absolutely zero clue why it crashes even before the main menu shows up, especially when I haven't installed any new mods or done pretty much anything else between now and the last time. I let LOOT do its job, it let me know the master esm files needed cleaning, I cleaned them and thought it fixed the problem. Didn't. I ran FNIS just in case, didn't help. Keep in mind that the thing crashes even before it gets to the main menu, just about at the time when the usual Steam pop-up shows up.

 

Please help a guy out here. It's really frustrating when you don't got a single clue why it works like shit. Or doesn't, actually. Load order and latest papyrus attached, just in case. Also, LOOT says I have 252 plugins, but I have 295 mods activated in total right now. Not sure why this happens, I guess not every mod has an esp?

crashing before the main menu is nearly always a missing master esp/esm issue.

So one of your mods is likely missing a "required" mod for it to run.

They have run LOOT it didn't tell them anything other then some that needed cleaning. The closer you get to the 255 .ESP/.ESM limit the more unstable your game can become depending on what you have installed.

 

I would try turning a few mods off at a time and keep starting skyrim till the crash stops then go back out and turn one back on from the last set you turned off till the crashing is back then you'll know the culprit.

As mentioned, I haven't downloaded anything new or removed anything old between now and the last time I played, when it worked fine. Nothing's been deleted.

 

Any chance it could have something to do with the latest game patch?

Have you scanned for viruses? Have you verified your game files via Steam?

I'm pretty sure it just checks the files that came from Steam, i.e. the ESMs, BSAs and assorted loose files in Dialog Views, Interface, Strings and Video. It replaces the file I use to skip the Bethesda logo, and replaces cleaned DLC ESMs, but otherwise I think it's safe.

I would doublecheck each mods masters. Your mod manager might have updated a mod that needs another master now, or one that's master changed the name of it's .esp. I had this problem before, but only I figured it out by selecting each plugin on nmm, until I saw a mod with a mod missing. It turned out the original mod it needed as a master changed the name of it's .esp

The best I can suggest is to get your mods under 255 and load up TES5edit to check if anythins missing

Have you run 1.5.3 without crash or was it 1.4.2?

 

Some mods were required to be updated when SSE went from 1.4.2 to 1.5.3.

I think it was 1.4.2 that I could run without crashing. Had a hunch the crashing had something to do with the new patch. Already updated USSEP, didn't help, but I guess I gotta go through every mod to see if it's about them. Probably a missing master. I'll try some stuff and let yall know if something worked.

Wasn't about missing masters! I had to delete Steam's appcache, verify game files and clean the whole thing with SSEEdit once more and now it's back to normal.
