Editing armor piece

So I have a question. I found a armor piece that has part of the armor I'd like to keep, rest of it not to fond of. Armor is the Blood Witch armor. The entire suit I'm so-so on, but the armored shoulder pads I love. I'd like to be able to use that as a separate item for mash ups. Clicking on the body and removing the block causes the armor in game to have no body at all.

Can it be done, and can it be easily done by someone with relatively minor editing skills?

Yes, depending on what you want to do you can either just add another body in nifskope or assign a different armor slot e.g. the amulet slot so you can were it separately. In order to do this you need to change the slot of the armor in the creation kit. Load the plugin search for the armor and use a different slot for the armor and the armor addon.

Normally you would need to change the BSDismemberSkinInstance in the nif as well, but the bloodwitch armor uses NiSkinInstance instead of BSDismemberSkinInstance which doesn't require editing as far as I know.

Hmmmm... couple problems I'm running into. First, none of the tutorial pictures are working so I can't verify if I have things right. Second and the biggest problem, the armor is missing the section the guide is asking for, in step 2.

  • Expand the NitriShapeData branch belonging to your armor mesh to reveal the BSDismemberSkinInstance block
  • In the Block Details window, scroll down to the bottom of the list to the row called Partitions
  • Expand Partitions until you can see a row for Body Part

That area is present in the left window, but not in the right one.

If BSDismemberSkinInstance is not present, that means you can define it however you want in the CK. It also means it will always show up if you add it to another piece of armor/clothing. (Combine it with another .nif).
