ahriman87 Posted September 10, 2017 Posted September 10, 2017 Hello, I would like to start the creation of mod for skyrim, and i would like to know the programs necessary for it, i know that the creation kit is the basis but I would like to know if other programs are required? I've heard some modder speaking of 3d programs (3dsmax,blender . . .) for creating something that don't exist i supose or starting from zero, and probably some other program are needed, i don't know, anyway thanks in advance for the all the info.
ahriman87 Posted September 10, 2017 Author Posted September 10, 2017 I would like to create a character, buti think the ressource from the game will not be enough, because the body will be something completly new In fact i would like to try to adapt this character ( i wait the agreement of the creator of the artwork) https://darrengeers.deviantart.com/art/Here-at-the-end-of-all-the-things-428952787
gregathit Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 Time for some tough love: If you don't have the slightest clue on what to do, you probably are way over your head and going to fail. The programs you are going to need to use and the steps you are going to have to go through are WAY too detailed to give you a list. Plus, no list will be complete, as no one knows what all you are doing. I'll help as I can: 1. Bodies/items - you'll need a 3d modeling program. Recommend 3dsMax if you can get a student license (free). It costs a ton to buy if you can't. Backup free program - blender. Learning to use either is WAY, WAY off in the deep end of modding. Be prepared to do weeks worth of reading and possibly months worth of watch youtube vids and screwing up so badly that you have to start over many times. 2. Textures for your body/clothes - GIMP. It is free. Also be prepared to do alot of ready and watching how to vids on youtube. That and lots of time learning as you go. 3. Google is your friend. When in doubt.......google it. 4. Creation kit - this is where you will put the parts together into an esp. Save OFTEN. It is a buggy and crashy mess of a program. Cheers, Greg
Frankfranky Posted September 15, 2017 Posted September 15, 2017 Soooo, I want to say gregathit is wrong, and that it is all really easy, and it kinda is, when you know what you are doing and what you want to do ... but he isn't. But you have to start somewhere, and making armor is a great place to learn heaps about what is going on. So here is part 1 of Nightassay's most excellent series on making armor. By the time you get to episode 80 ish you will know more than most modders. See you in a couple of months.
TheWilloughbian Posted September 15, 2017 Posted September 15, 2017 First thing to do is familiarize yourself with the creation kit. https://www.creationkit.com/index.php?title=Category:Tutorials Here are some links to start you off. Nifskope 1.2 does stuff you can't do with 2.0, so get both. https://github.com/niftools/nifskope/releases/tag/v1.2.0-alpha.2 https://github.com/niftools/nifskope/releases/tag/v2.0.dev6 NifUtilsSuite aka Nif Convert https://github.com/skyfox69/NifUtilsSuite The exe is hard to find, so here. http://www.loverslab.com/files/file/4489-nifutilssuiteexe/ Some reading https://www.darkcreations.org/forums/topic/9949-nifskope-collision-meshes-blender-and-more/ Bodyslide https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/49015/? Learning to use these is a good start. Then move on to Blender or whatever 3d software you want to learn.
