Triratna Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 I'm referring to LEGAL ISSUES on modder modding cases that enable interchanges betsheda games series. 1. The find example would be, MORROWBLIVION. That merge down morrowwind universe with oblivion and import and export between creature as well as full dialog interactive. So moderyn oreyn actually can meet up with Farvyn Oreyn. 2. NEHRIM. Modders exporting oblivion vanilla creature assets as well as independent oblivion mods (even lovers) to the german mythic and historical game. In turn oblivion\nehrim player sometimes port Nehrim creatures and data are export to oblivion for immersion. 3. F3 - NV. You know. Personally there are a huge Grey lines between these two series, Like Oblivion and Nehrim. The only different is both are American, Not German. And their Export - import between vanilla and open sources mod collection interchange are one click away. At first Fallout.3 fans insist that New vegas should be Fallout.3 DLC and developed under zenimax original developer team than the original 2d black isle developer. 4. [video=youtube] And Here we are as an independent open source modder from all over the world with our idealism trying to make our favorite game better, with our crazy idea on crazier project. So let's discuss some interchanges mod to our heart content. The Asian developers are ever so lucky they can mod & rip any and all game to oblivion and skyrim on release it their forum without worrying about porting rules.
windpl Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 You can do it, but they can sue you if they had such desire. Those are different products with different EULA/© they cannot be interchanged
Ark of Truth Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 If your trying to import an asset from Skyrim into Oblivion then its for personal use only Triratna. It is against the law to import any assets from one game into another without the permission of the game owners as its copyright infringement. You wouldn't be allowed to host it anywhere either.
Triratna Posted August 6, 2012 Author Posted August 6, 2012 True, Mediafire will perma bann me if betsheda reports their complain. Well.. Guess, i won't be sharing my mods anymore if that happens. I still updating monster girl and children annuad, regardless. But that's all. --------------- err... Put it on 'secret stuff' thread? No?
Ark of Truth Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 err... Put it on 'secret stuff' thread? No? I'm not even sure that would be allowed either. At the end of the day the decision is up to Ashal and the mods.
windpl Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 To make it clear. There is a lot mods that ripe entire games in to other engine. For example half-life 1 ported by mods to source engine or recently GTA3 ported to GTA4. And devs/companies don't give a shit about it and some times they are even happy about it. But dunno about betsheda. After all, they sued fat guy for using "Scrolls" as game tittle.
Mashi Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Bethesda didn't. Rather Zenimax did, which is the parent company. Well if you can get permission that's the whole thing, CD Projekt allows people to use assets from their games if you ask for permission.
Triratna Posted August 7, 2012 Author Posted August 7, 2012 Actually i shouldn't have brought this topic up. -- I choose to go with my humanism side and keep modding as per usual and release them every week. All my mods are sticky and they all are interchanges from various betsheda games, for the first time i heard a complain about them after a whole year developing them. Damn.
Mashi Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Copyrights make a mess of the entire thing Triratna, in some places fair use falls into play and it becomes an issue of "go nuts" in others it becomes "THOU SHALT BE STRUCK DOWN AND SALTED." I'm in the group of, if it's not causing someone's eyes to explode, and houses to melt down and devour towns...eh whatever.

[/quote'] I say just keep modding. If you get a letter to stop...then stop, but until then....go nuts (within reason of course).

Guest GingerTom Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 As a businessman my answer is simple: If you just go ahead and do it then you will probably be ignored. However, if you ever ASK for permission to do it then you will ALWAYS be told 'no' to protect their copyright.
Duoleb The Chosen Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 it sucks that i still want to do my little cass for skyrim mod but, with these anti-Modding rules of zenimax whih ican't rip her follower dialogs from NV to skyrim, well...
prideslayer Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 If the vanilla assets are included in your mod then it's against the law and the rules. You can release mods (short for modifications) to your hearts content, as they don't include any vanilla assets covered by copyright. Seems day by day I'm in a smaller minority, but really, stealing is wrong. Chances of getting caught or in trouble are pretty small, obviously. Chances are higher of it getting Ashal in trouble for hosting it, not you. If he won't cave to a request for your information (name, address, IP, PMs, whatever), then his ISP will likely cave when they feel the pressure. I've been on the receiving end of that as a website admin, and it's not pretty. So I'd advise against it (here) for no other reason than the golden rule of free websites: don't let your own desires ruin it for everyone else.
