NoxTM Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 I got this weird issue with some of my textures.. or maybe all of them, i dont know. Its more visible on some than on others. Especially Armor and Clothes textures seem to have those strange "artifacts" - which i personally only know from really heavy compressing the textures.Im pretty sure they are not tho.. or at least not that bad. I see none of the issues on images from the mod page - so there must be something going on. Here are some screenshots: I don't think it has something to do with the ENB - i turned if off ingame and still had those texture issues. RUSTIC CLOTHING - Bethesda Performance Textures - Armor - Clothes - Weapons - Nerevars - Cloaks of Skyrim Ultra HD v2 I already had the issue before installing them. I was hoping to fix it with those 3 mods.. but no luck. Compression in ENBLocal is turned off aswell. Gonna go to bed now and with some luck maybe someone knows how to fix this. I hope.. Thanks
Andy14 Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 I'm quite sure that texture compression is the cause. Less likely, but it is possible that the faces in the mesh are not normalized.
NoxTM Posted August 23, 2017 Author Posted August 23, 2017 I don't get the last sentence.. what faces? Eitherway.. i actually tried to disable my armor mods, but still had those issues. And while the ENB doesnt cause this - it makes it more visible. Mind you.. i never disabled the ENBs of the KONAN ENB. I dont know.. does anybody have at least some ideas what i could try to fix this?
Andy14 Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 I don't get the last sentence.. what faces? ... Google Translate I mean this: For info: The surface (side for texture) of a polygon is called face. Sometimes some polys or even all poly faces are reversed.
NoxTM Posted August 23, 2017 Author Posted August 23, 2017 So it's not KONAN ENB. I disabled all the ESP (comes with its own Lighting and Weather Mod etc.) but still had those issues. I disabled my Armor replace mod, as mentioned above and still had those issues - which means i doubt its a mesh issue. I dunno. Thats why im here.. Feels like there is a texture thats not being replaced.. I mean.. i tried out a few high res texture mods for robes and the cloaks. The base texture does improve.. its more detailed and all that.. but there is always this weird compression things going on. Even with vanilla textures. So it feels like there is something missing.. or broken. Anybody? Please?

So it feels like there is something missing.. or broken. Anybody? Please? For the heck of it, I looked at the clothes/armor mod you mentioned. It simply replaces mesh files and uses vanilla textures. So disabling that mod would do nothing to solve your "artifact" problem. You say it's not your ENB. But how do you know that? If you totally disabled the ENB and still have this problem, seems to me there is an issue with your base game, since it's the vanilla textures that are affected. Have you tried a different ENB just for grins?
NoxTM Posted August 24, 2017 Author Posted August 24, 2017 Okay.. i know that the armor mod only replaces meshes. I disabled it because of what Andy14 said - to rule out that the meshes are the issue. I disabled the KONAN ENB completely. (ENBs and Ingame) Which is why i assume its not the cause of it.. I did however take a closer look at the textures and found out.. (eventho i ruled that one out earlier aswell) that they are the cause of it. They are just badly compressed - like the Vanilla textures are. Meaning, i can see the compression artifacts on the textures for the clothes. Take a look at the texture for the cloak as example. You can see those purple/pink and green spots all over the cloak aka. compression artifacts. (Probably not as visibile on this uploaded picture) Maybe not as bad on this texture now, but add some Ingame Lighting Effects and its get even more visible.

"I did however take a closer look at the textures and found out.. (eventho i ruled that one out earlier aswell) that they are the cause of it. They are just badly compressed - like the Vanilla textures are." Sorry, I think you're loosing me here, so help me understand this. If the texture of the cloak you looked at / posted is full of artifacts, those artifacts are built into the texture image and can't be removed. You said that's pretty much the case and if true, no one can help you. But I doubt someone would post a mod full of crumby texture images, although it IS possible. But at the same time, (I thought) your initial images were of a mod that uses vanilla textures, so I'm not understanding something here. If your vanilla textures (ALL textures - but you said you're not sure?) are displaying weird, there is something affecting your base game as I said above. So how did you look at the image? With Photoshop or GIMP? As you said above, they are just badly compressed-like the vanilla textures are. While I agree that the vanilla textures may be of lower quality, I wouldn't say they are badly compressed. Otherwise everyone would be seeing the artifact issue you are having and that's just not the case. If you don't have Photoshop, you can attach one of your texture images and I can look at it if you'd like. I'm afraid I don't use or know how to direct you with the use of MO, but can only think that disabling all your mods (except for the basic mods like SKYUI, SKSE, BodySlide, LAL, etc. - NO ENB) and starting a new mini-modded game and seeing how that looks. Then re-enable your mods one-by-one to determine which might be causing an issue. Not what you want to hear, I know, but... Maybe someone else will chime in with a "magic bullet" and we can all learn something new. FYI: What Andy14 was talking about is that a mesh triangle has a "face", front and back. Textures can be one-sided or two-sided. Games use one-sided textures, meaning a texture "element" is mapped onto / visible only on one side of the triangle. Looking at the other side would appear transparent. If the mesh triangles aren't normalized, meaning the textured triangles aren't facing all the same direction (the camera side), some triangles will display a texture element, while others would be transparent. But that's not your problem here.
NoxTM Posted August 25, 2017 Author Posted August 25, 2017 The screenshots above are with the HD texture mods. No vanilla clothing textures in those pictures. I just disabled the mods, to see if the vanilla textures have the same issues and they do, which is what i told you. Mind you.. the ENB i'm using makes them more visible. But they are still there, just harder to see. I then took a closer look at the textures themself with IrfanView. I posted the cloak texture above (it's in JPEG because you obviously cant upload .DDS files to an image hosting website) Anyway.. the textures i looked at (Greybeard Cloak from CoS Mod* and Black Mage Robe) had those compression artifacts i was talking about - thus why i assume they are at fault. I know that nobody can fix this issue - well, apart from making better UNCOMPRESSED textures. So.. i am aware nobody can help me right now. If what i assume is correct. *The Cloak shown in the screenshot does use a texture from Nerevars - Cloaks of Skyrim Ultra HD v2 which i initially installed because the default texture from Cloaks of Skyrim had the same issues - or at least the Greybeard Cloak. Below you can find the default Greybeard Cloak texture from CoS. If you zoom in a bit (dont even need to), you will notice the green compression artifacts.
C5Kev Posted August 25, 2017 Posted August 25, 2017 OK, so what you have said so far... - you have compression artifacts as part of your HD textures.- your vanilla textures have artifacts as well. - that you know they're from being badly compressed texture images, yet the mod page pics look OK. - you are aware that the only way to fix / remove the artifacts is to create new texture images. - you know they aren't due to the ENB you're using, but it magnifies the issue. Dude, at this point, I really don't know what you're asking and afraid I can't help you. The reason I say this is because I have an i7700k, GTX 1080 and a 28" 4K monitor. If all those artifacts were actually "in the game", i.e. the artifacts are part of the vanilla textures for example, I'm pretty sure I'd see them. And I just don't. Therefore, I can only assume that you have some sort of hardware / vid card / driver or settings / game settings issue that's causing this. But I'm just guessing because I don't know your rig, the settings in all your ini files, etc., etc. And apparently you are reluctant to down to bare-bones (not that I blame you) to find if an almost vanilla-ish game still displays as it does currently - because if it did, it's hardware or settings. Again, maybe someone else will chime in with a "magic bullet" that can help you and we can both learn something new.
NoxTM Posted August 27, 2017 Author Posted August 27, 2017 Well the Cloak ones are pretty obvious - even if you just look at the texture. I can ignore the rest tho. Im running pretty much on the same setup btw.. 7700k, GTX 1080, 27'' Anyway.. im just gonna live with it now, i guess. Thanks to Mod Organizer its actually pretty easy to just start in "bare-bone" mode. Did that with only SkyUI and Cloaks of Skyrim - still had the artifacts. But as i said, the cloaks are pretty obvious. Regarding the robes im probably just nitpicking - i dunno. Another thing i wanted to clear up is that when i say vanilla textures, i mean.. VANILLA textures. No HD Texture DLC. But oh well.. nothing more to say. I just wanna play now. Until the game crashes eventually..
