revanag Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 So here is my story..till this day I used to play New Vegas using only FOMM and custom launch from there (fnv4gb - nvse supported). The only problem was that with this method Steam didn't recognize that I played New Vegas. Mostly I got used to it and didn't care about achievements. But yesterday I got an idea. I renamed fnv4gb.exe to FalloutNVLauncher.exe started game from steam and it noticed that I had been playing New Vegas, I could tak screenshots using Steam and it also counted my game time finally. Still I can't get any of the achievments - made a test, one achievement you can get after finishing Ain't That a Kick in the Head quest. So I made new game and nothing happend. Any ideas how to play with mods and still be available to get steam achievements? How do you play?
Kamen Rider Kuuga Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 I have NVSE and the extender launching with the Steam launcher, and the game itself is heavily modified with New Vegas Enhanced Content and Sexout, and I've never had any problems getting achievements. Are you sure you're not using the console commands?
revanag Posted July 27, 2012 Author Posted July 27, 2012 Are you sure you're not using the console commands? Of course I am! I read somewhere that commands can break this for the end of the session but I didn't use them in my last test. Can you tell how did you configure your steam launcher? EDIT: Ok..it looks like it works now. Renaming nvse_loader to FalloutNVLauncher then staerted game from steam and got my first achievement. So the culminating point is that fnv4gb.exe disables steam achievments. Too bad , I liked New Vegas using more ram EDIT2: Good thing it also works with save games, so I don't have to play everything from the beginning, hooah @BaconMinion Thanks for the reply
prideslayer Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 It would probably work if you 'hacked' up the way FNV4GB works. The default method is simply to patch the exe to a new file (falloutnv.4gb) that it then executes, and falloutnv.exe is left alone (and never run). If you run it one time, you can back up your falloutnv.exe program, and then rename falloutnv.4gb to falloutnv.exe, and it *might* work. It might be detected by the anti-cheat thing and get you banned or something instead... No warranty from me.
Guest user29 Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Is fnv4gb even needed anymore? I thought they patched it shortly after release to use 4gb of ram.
prideslayer Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 I thought they patched it shortly after release to use 4gb of ram. Dumpbin says no for FONV. Maybe skyrim?
gregathit Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 It was skyrim that bethesda patched to use more than 2GB of ram. FNV has never had an official 64bit patch.
tattooedillusions Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 @revanag Where do you have your fnv4gb files located? I put them right in the game folder where nvse, the game exe and all that is. I launch my game right from the fnv4gb which reads that you have nvse (if you have 4gb enabler in the same folder as nvse) which then reads the game exe. It won't launch the launcher you use but you'll be able to get achievements and steam recognizes that you're playing.

I also put them in the game folder. But, what you're trying to say is that I shouldn't start game from Steam "Play" button? Definitively gonna try out your method as soon as I'll be back on my PC.
tattooedillusions Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Right just try to launch it from the fnv4gb.exe. I pinned mine to the task bar so it's easy to get to without having to go through all the folders. I'm almost positive that you'll still get achievements that way. Let me know what you find out when you try it. I'd like to know if I steered you in the right direction or not. Hope it helped.

This doesn't work, Steam can't see that I'm playing NV and my status is just online. As a result it doesn't count hours of playing and thus also achievements.
gregathit Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Play through Wrye Flash or FOMM and you will get your hours logged and as long as you don't use the console you will get the achievements. In FOMM set the custom launch command to fnv4gb.exe (hit the settings button and then the Fallout New Vegas tab. I have played 247 hours to date.... That is 10.29 days. No wonder I am tired and delusional......
