Darkening Demise Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 GTX 1060 6GB i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core 8GB DDR3 Windows 10 64-bit Can't afford to upgrade anything else for at least till December. Is this good enough for games like Fallout 4, Skyrim, Conan Exiles, Sims 4, Grand Theft Auto 5, Battlefront 2, Far Cry 5, Rainbow Six Siege?
Guest Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 FO4: yes Skyrim: overpowered Sims 4: yes GTA 5: overpowered RSix Siege: yes I am not sure about the others, but probably you are good to go.
peculiaris Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Good enough for a couple of years to come, its a quadcore Haswell chip with a GPU as powerful as a GTX 980, so its pretty guud!
I'm The Wabbit Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Good enough for a couple of years to come, its a quadcore Haswell chip with a GPU as powerful as a GTX 980, so its pretty guud! A 1060 is just as powerful as a 980? I thought a 1060 was only a little bit more powerful than a 970.
Darkening Demise Posted June 26, 2017 Author Posted June 26, 2017 Apparently the 1060 6GB still isn't enough for Skyrim modded heavily. Vivid Landscape all in one, static mesh improvements, verdent grass, realistic waters, 2K body textures all in one hdt pussy, all settings maxed/on except AA and FXAA at a resolution of 1600x900. VRAM issues occur non stop. Oh well. R6S does run nice at least no longer looks like a PS2 game when I had a 750Ti 2GB. Haven't tried FO4 yet or Conan or GTA V.

That feeling when someone says 1060 6GB can't do, and my 660 2GB can... + Leyenda Skin 4k + HDT stuff + The Wilds ENB Run on 1920*1080 resolution, 30-35 FPS in cities, 40-50 in open world and 55-60 in dungeons and homes.

When getting new games pay attention to the clock and recommended processor/graphics cards and you should be fine. the worst you might have is you downgrading 4 k textures to 2 k, lighter ENBs for some games, lowering some of the graphics slightly to get the game to run with what you want to run it with.. but you should be good to go for a few years to come. FYI I am running a 2k gsync monitor fed by an old GTX970 and I can even play Witcher (1080p as I mentioned you might have to dial some things down) with full graphic on at that resolution. Last profile I had for Old Skyrim had 170 mods in this. Mostly Sexout mods and some mid graphics no ENBs and ran fine. I do have a 4th gen i7 but you shouldn't have a single problem with bottleneck with an i5 I chose an i7 because I do other task that require or are strongly suggested to use an i7. If I didn't do that... I would have an i5 in my computer right now.

It's actually a bit more powerful in directx 12 games and equal in dx11 or older, and it's better for high resolution gaming because of the 6GB of VRAM Apparently the 1060 6GB still isn't enough for Skyrim modded heavily. Try putting your resolution higher, with lower resolution your stress your CPU more then your GPU and that's not optimal.

Try putting your resolution higher, with lower resolution your stress your CPU more then your GPU and that's not optimal. Some of the very old GFX cards like the GTX680 and GTX780 for example tend to do a better job with Direct x 9 games in general but cannot or has very limited capability for the newer games. Also generally they have less Vram as well. Sometimes when people upgrade they find their older games degrade You can get back to the standard but it takes a bit of work Yes... tweaking the resoultion/setings does take a bit of work. Having one too much or too little will stress different parts of the game. Depending on your system, you might experience problems. I don't see any problem's with the OPs playing games at 1080 p.. then dialing up if possible for easier games (Quake, Sims etc) then dialing it down if needed for harder games to play (Witcher III, etc) However I doubt the op will need much tweaking for his/her setup. Like I stated... I have almost the same setup (Minus the graphics card) and I am able to do all my games in very good settings. Some at 2k, most at 1080p and modding > 150 plugins some of which are heavy scripting (the OP might have to dial that down with the i5 but doubt that.) The OP has an excellent base system to start from... He/she should work and play the games they have and have a fun time with little tweaking mostly for personal taste. If... and only If the system lags below their desires ijn one thing or another should there be any upgrades and only if possible. Do some research based on your current personal needs. (might be processor, might be GFX card) then do that upgrade and rinse and repeat. I see too many of my RL friends spending $$$$ on their system building hulking machines and getting like 10% better results than I do.
