Load Order Issue/Start-Up Crash

Recommended Posts

Posted

Greetings, everyone! First post here, but almost certainly not the last, though I hope it's the last tech-support post.

So, my game crashes after a few loading slides. The cause is almost certainly Sexout, though it could also possibly be Mission Mojave Ultimate Edition (MMUE), as I installed it just before the Sexout mods and their resources, without testing it with MMUE.

I currently have all the Sexout resources downloaded and installed [though I'm not using the .esps for most of the outfits] and my load order looks like this.

Total active plugins: 176

Total plugins: 205

As far as I can tell, it matches the load order found here yet it crashes on startup.

I'm running FNV using False Fullscreen, which recognizes and uses NVSE and 4GB NV. I disabled two Sexout plugins that I accidentally installed but didn't want, which is why there is no merged patch from FNVEdit present at the end of the list.

BOSS doesn't do much in the way of sorting except for the .esms, which I believe are correct.

I apologize if this is the wrong forum for this, but I appreciate you taking the time to read this and I appreciate any help I'm given even more.

EDIT: If it comes down to it, I do have a version of my entire New Vegas folder saved moments before installing all of the Sexout plugins and resources, which I could revert to in ~30 minutes [it's bordering on 30 Gb in size].

A few tips (in no particular order)::

First, any outfit mods you added for sexout, you only need the resources (meshes, textures, sounds, BSA files). Leave out all plugin files (.esp and .esm). Probably not causing your crash, but using the default plugins will interrupt the pregnancy functionality if you're using it.

Second (and I say this a lot) use FNV Edit. It will let you know if any plugins are missing dependencies or out of order. Also, crashes can often be caused by multiple mods changing the same thing. FNV Edit will help you find those conflicts and make a patch to resolve them the way you want. (For example, if you have multiple mods that change Veronica's appearance, you can make a merged patch with FNV Edit that will use the appearance you want).

Next, use BOSS. It will make sure what you have installed is in the proper order for optimum functionality. Its not perfect, new mods can take time to be added to the masterlist, but it makes things easier.

Last on my list but first in importance, always install with FOMM or another mod manager program. That way if a mod causes a problem and has lots of resources you can uninstall it with FOMM and it will clean up everything in one shot. It also backs up overwritten files and replaces them when a mod is uninstalled.

Can you narrow the problem down to a specific plugin, or is it Sexout.esm itself?

EDIT: You should deactivate VegasChokers.esp. That's included in SCR.

My loadorder is sorted with BOSS. Except for the Sexout plugins, which get marked as unrecognized beyond the .esm files at any rate. Running BOSS again would accomplish nothing at this point beyond shifting 54 files to the end of my load order because they're unrecognized.

FNVEdit is in use, it detects no missing masters or things being out of order. I plan to recreate the merged patch after removing the problem/adding the fix.

Alright, as soon as I deactivated WorkingGirl [i started from the bottom of the list and worked up, by the way, so everything from WorkingGirl down was disabled] I could get past the 'Please Stand By' opening slide. What's interesting is that it immediately put me into an 'In-Game' state, which didn't happen with ALL the Sexout plugins disabled. In this In-game state, it gave me all the standard new character messages related to mods/DLC activating, and from there I could get out of this black screen by hitting escape and exitting to main menu.

I'd say too many esm's.

At 176 you are past where things get screwy for many people, you may find it doesn't matter which 20 mods you disable and the crash goes away.

It probably depends on how good your computer is. I get weird things starting at about 198, and an automatic crash regardless around 210.

I don't know how my game is still playable either.

Mine seems to go screwy around 170-180, some peoples fail as low as 150, I think it also depends on the type of plugins to some degree as I could add 2 new clothing mods at one stage but not a more complex "new places" type mod.

Might be a total file size or number of records thing. One of the problems I start seeing around 200 mods is the game starting to fail to load meshes and textures properly. Sometimes the world map is pink, others you enter a cell and everything in it is just !

Yep that happens to me too.

Yeah, I'm fairly certain at this point that it -is- simply too many plugins. So I cut out all the non-active ones that I will not be using, and managed to get it down to 169. I believe it crashes as soon as I cross the 160 plugin threshold, which is peculiar, considering that for Skyrim,FO3, Morrowind, and Oblivion I've never had a problem, usually being able to almost hit the hard limit before experiencing issues.

Glad that it's not actually a Sexout issue; I ran Wrye Flash, like I should have, and managed to merge a sizable amount of patch mods. Also, the compatibility for Lust and oHud. Having done that, I should still create a merged patch with FNVEdit, correct?

Thanks for all the help, though; despite it being a stupid mistake on my end, the help here certainly led me in the right direction.

EDIT: Ran the merged patch. Get in game, and I'm running into a problem where textures are botched up. I go and talk to Easy Pete, and he suddenly has the giant red error around him. I talk to any of the other NPCs around who've got guns and their weapons momentarily flicker.

I head into the bar, and things get worse. Sunny is there, and either has her default leather outfit with the error around her or simply has no body, and the floors and walls are rapidly changing between random textures. After a while, I'll hear the clothing change sound and my body will disappear, at which point opening the PipBoy results in a CTD.

From outside, the bar and land seem fine.
