Dragonborn DLC is broken.

Been having this problem since ages. All sidequests in the draagonborn dlc aren't triggering. No dialogues to get them from npcs. Also, at the first encounter with miraak, inside the temple, game freezes before he turns to me (in the cinematic inside the book). I am absolutely sure it's a mod causing this, but i cannot for the life of me figure out who's the culprit. The weird thing is that all is ok with dawnguard....this only happens with dragonborn.

we've all had these types of issues and from my past experience and reading others issues here over the years i've noticed that these problems were caused by mods that modify dialogue. so follower mods, overhauls that modify interactions with npcs, basically anything that would mod/edit dialogue with npcs is usually the culprit. it could be just a load order issue but it sounds like you may have a conflict of mods. i would uncheck some mods that you know mod dialogue and test it by a process of elimination.

 

in my opinion dragonborn dlc is buggy as hell to begin with (and the lamest of the 2). i have had instances where frea just lollygags in miraks temple and won't come out, mirak gets stuck deep in the teleport thingie where he comes up from at the end so i'd have to tcl into the ground and beat him.

 

hopefully you get it working. i'm sure someone with more experience will chime in soon.

You no doubt ran loot without custom meta tags for those esp, as for some reason it always puts morenastycritters.esp below the others somewhere.

I did not expect that to sort the problem out, but it would be causing it's own problems.

What i can't understand is why this happens with dragonborn, but not with the rest of the game...

try these steps

 

1) verifying files under steam

2) run tesedit check for errors

3) run save game check for errors 

 

if all else fails disable all dragonborn mods, clean save (ofc backup original files first)

if it still fail, untick or remove dragonborn and clean save

I verified steam caches 4 times, it appears that one file is constantly redownloaded, but a part from this, all is ok.
No error in tes5edt.
How to run a save game check? Anyway, it happens even if i start a new game.

 

I also tried to delete dragonborn files and redownload them, not solved. it's certainly a mod.
