terrorofmorrowind Posted April 30, 2017 Posted April 30, 2017 Hey guys i was wondering is there a way to edit dialogue without opening it in ck? I have been playing the mod "things in the dark" recently and despite it's (still) many bugs, which is understandable because it is such an enormous mod, it is a very good one. Though there is another thing that i don't like and that is the dialogue. It is written in very broken english that is sometimes not understandable. But that is not a big surprise since the author is French. so to show my support i wanted to volunteer myself for translating these bits of dialogue into things that people can actually understand atleast a little bit better. I could do this in ck but the problem is that the mod comes with a lot of new npc's and to not mess with that i asked this question. So does anyone have an idea how to handle this?
SirDuke Posted April 30, 2017 Posted April 30, 2017 I´ve used this here once, to translate about 10 mods in FallOut New Vegas and TTW http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/29457/? It was designed for skyrim, but is a bit "out of date". Still, I´m pretty sure it works and takes about 30 min to get quite used to it. (Don´t expect to understand it instantly! It´s not THAT easy, but manageable.) And you sure can´t break anything. **** edit **** there´s a new version here: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/921/?
MadMansGun Posted April 30, 2017 Posted April 30, 2017 TES5Edit can modify the text: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/25859/?
SirDuke Posted April 30, 2017 Posted April 30, 2017 TES5Edit can modify the text: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/25859/? Absolutely true. But it´s quite as dangerous as the ck itself. cause we were asked to find something "more safe"
MadMansGun Posted April 30, 2017 Posted April 30, 2017 Absolutely true. But it´s quite as dangerous as the ck itself. cause we were asked to find something "more safe" "dangerous"? it's just text editing, unless your keyboard is made out of C4 i don't see how that would kill you.
DeepBlueFrog Posted April 30, 2017 Posted April 30, 2017 Wouldn't the solution be to work with Delzaron and fix the dialogues in the first place?
SirDuke Posted April 30, 2017 Posted April 30, 2017 I could do this in ck but the problem is that the mod comes with a lot of new npc's and to not mess with that i asked this question. I assume, the first poster suspects the CK as too dangerous for this work. If we stay with that, TesVEdit will be on the same "danger level"
terrorofmorrowind Posted April 30, 2017 Author Posted April 30, 2017 ok,thanks for the suggestions guys. I already let delzaron know that i'm working on this (slowly but surely because i have a very demanding job as of right now for the first time since ever). As of now i changed some lines in the descriptions of quests to make them more clear and understandable. The goal is to make it so clear that their shouldn't be any use anymore for quest markers, because it seems to cause a lot of issues for now (aka the fisherhut bug). Oncd that is finished i'm going to try and tackle the subtitles from these quests. I have done the quest descriptions with tesvedit and it is quite harmless because i just changed some text not the construction of the quest itself. So yeah it really is quite harmless. It is true that i could have done this with ck but because of the dark face issue with newly added npc's when saving the mod i prefer to use the tesvedit route. edit sirduke, thank you for recommending that tool but it's not really what i'm looking for since the text is already in english. I just need to edit those lines into proper english or atleast at a better level of understanding it. I think i already found what i was looking for under the "dialogue topic" tab in tesvedit.
