Hello, i've been modding skyrim since 2015 and i thought i had the modding ok but i'm getting random crashes, near whiterun mostly. i thought the problem was texture mods so i disabled them all but i'm still getting the same crashes, this is my load order, all cleaned with TES5Edit and plugins sorted with LOOT.

Move Morenastycritters.esp above SexlabNudecreatures.esp, oddly enough the current and some of the previous versions of loot move it below when it should be above according to the more nasty critters page.  That might help somewhat.

ok only 2 things I can see off hand

1 do you have a custom body (not a vanilla body) installed??? some mods require a custom body (not sure If you have any offhand).

2 I see you have custom skeleton (XPMSE)  does anything overwrite it??? if so that might be the problem (I have had that happen in the past and it turned out to be a werewolf

near Whiterun causing the problem at that time, and by fixing my goof up of something overwriting XPMSE problem was solved).

p.s.   you should consider making a bashed patch (if for no other reason than it will give you a missing master warning if you have a missing or out of place master file).

And here is my Story..

I had Random CTD's too, i guess since 3 years or more..

Everytime i played Skyrim,

it crashed as i opened a Menu,

it crashed as i wanted to save a Savegame,

it crashed while in combat,

while i did go into another instance exterior/interior,

while i was near whiterun, windhelm etc..

crash crash

Then before 2 Months i did find this "MemoryBlocksLog" thing..

I downloaded it, and as my skyrim crashed again, it shows me a Number, an when this Number exceeds? the Memory Limit, then Skyrim crashes!

So i followed the Video Instruction and there someone explained what it is, and how i use it correctly.

After that i hadnt anymore crashes, since 2 Months, i swear, not even one CTD!

I recommend google for memoryblockslog and try this before you do try other sugestions.. and follow the video instructions on its  Download Page.

Ah and if you have a load order which isnt correct, then you won't see the Main Menu, so i guess your load order is okay, but yes, make sure all sexlab mods loaded after sexlab etc...

Please dont use LOOT, it kills your Loadorder!

Here is a part of the Loot Readme you always should think of when you use LOOT:

LOOT is intended to make using mods easier, and mod users should still possess a working knowledge of mod load ordering.

While LOOT is able to calculate correct load order positions for the vast majority of plugins using only their content, it cannot do so for all plugins

And yes, after i used Loot in past it placed Mods not correct in Load order, also some sexlab mods i remember.

After my skyrim worked, i used loot again just because i was curious. And? Right, Game CTD on Startup.

But as i said your Random CTD, seems like youre out of Memory, you can sue a Maximum of 1024 Memory in the SKSE.ini File, but then you have to set the "ExtendMemoryx64" option, in ENB.ini (if you use ENB), to false.

As far as i can say, i know 5 Peoples who had also Random CTD's, okay me, and another 4 have no random ctd's anymore, but the other one, i dont know he isnt anymore in my Steam Friendlist.

Few pieces of information is missing.

  • When exactly does your game crash?
  • Which mod manager you are using?
  • Have you removed mods with scripts from the game that it is crashing?
  • Are you using the said SKSE.ini mentioned above?

What comes to LOOT, I have fixed hundreds of games, without exaggerating at all. I would recommend using most up to date version of LOOT. It was fully updated just some time ago and does excellent job.

There are few exceptions. None of the LL mods I know about are among them. All exceptions I know about are: Guard Dialogue Overhaul+RDO and Dynamic Patches. Latter ones seem to be a constant problem for LOOT and the LOOT team.  Khajiirah's post above also sounds like LOOT sent one or more dynamically built patches to entirely wrong locations, which can be big problem, if you do not know to move them in to correct locations manually.

Despite my support toward LOOT, it is very far from being any miracle tool. It can not read the mind of the player, to determine how certain entries are preferred. I would recommend using LOOT, but also getting comfortable with TES5Edit (xEdit). Checking unwanted record conflicts with that is a lot easier than it might feel. The number is usually relatively small and easy to read, even in big load orders, unless it was designed without any care of mod author compatibility notes.

My usual process in MO is to run LOOT, set dynamically created files (if present, like Real Shelter files) manually in place, before generating them (mods like DynDOLOD do not naturally go to this category, but they go at the bottom anyway.) Then I run the whole thing through xEdit for conflict checking. I will move to sort rest of resource priority conflicts and create dynamic patches only after that.
