Why unnamed Japanese modders are unnamed?

I was just wondering why unnamed Japanese modders never leave their name behind. Is it because of lack of language knowledge, hard to get know who's behind that nick written in Japanese characters?

No unknown really is unknown. They created the mod. We transtlated it only never to find a name who created the mod. That is why in most of my translations are set to unknown. if the name is known then the name is added.

u have to understand in Japan, most of their discussing place is using futaba system, which doesn't really track names or anything.

but if they do wish to leave their name, they still can, but some of them just don't care or don't want to.

I thUnk it is also a cultural thing. In Asia there is MUCH honor in gambling large amounts of money when the odds (...are small) are not in your favor. In fact the larger the amount bet when the odds of probabilities are smaller the larger the honor gained is. Following this form of logic; there does seem to be more honor in giving away their work towards a larger entity than claiming ownership of something that they really do not own. Only in the western world do people claim such nonsense. It bothers me to no end that modders state that others are not allowed to modify "their" work or need their "permission" to do something. Ya right! Uh huh! Sure! HA! Most of "their" work has often been ripped from other peoples work in the first place. I do believe in mentioning where ideas, meshes, textures originally came from but "I DON'T LIKE BEING TOLD WHAT I CAN OR CAN NOT DO!" That is why this place exists in the first place. The truth is that Bethesda owns everything!

Sorry for rant. But the narcissistic influence within the modding/hacking communities bothers me to no end. It goes against everything the core beliefs these arenas were founded on imo. Ark! meh asdfghjk cheers.

PS i ripped this off of some guys post from another site. It's a small gif animation of an oblivion gate opening up. Very cute to add on a signature. You need my permission to use it.

Cygarniczka,

If you really want to find out why not try machine-translating your question into Japanese and posting it on some Japanese Lovers sites? I would do it myself but I'm lazy and have my own ideas. Such as, did you know censorship is very much alive in Japan? They don't ban porn, they just blur the pictures. And no one seems to care enough to protest.

I've been saying exactly this for years to anyone who will listen.

Names may or may not translate well so perhaps it is that. Truthfully I am not sure anyone knows.

A bit late, I know, but there's absolutely no problem with writing Japanese names in the Latin alphabet. It's the other way around that's problematic.

Yea, that makes sense.

But on the English conversions, while it may work out to letters, will those letters be gibberish?

Converting Japanese names to English will make perfect sense, and you'll never get character combinations that are unpronounceable. For Non-Japanese names to Japanese conversion the names have to be adapted, because some letters are missing, and consonant usage is much more limited than in English.

Ok.

I just wish that were true when converting Japanese sentences to English. I ended up with so much gibberish converting Bravil Undergrounds dialogue that at times I had to just make something up as I could not figure out what they were trying to say. Our two sentences structures are wildly different.

Yeah, translating Japanese to English properly isn't easy even when you know Japanese. When you don't know Japanese it becomes more or less impossible.

Compare that to translating Dutch to English when you don't know Dutch ;)

Yea, it sucked learning German. The whole masculine verses feminine nonsense was a killer to try to learn. The cool thing was it really boned me up on my own language. :)

Nonsense indeed, and they also have a neutral form. We have something similar in Dutch ('de' and 'het', basically meaning 'the'). Translating Dutch or German to English should still be a whole lot easier than Japanese. Dutch can basically be translated literally to English and will make perfects sense 99 percent of the time.

Funny story on the forms for German, at the end of the school year (high school - man that was forever ago!) we went to a an authentic German restaurant in a small town about 15 miles north of the city I lived in. The entire town was pretty much German immigrants which was pretty cool. We had to order and converse only in German. I thought I was doing rather well talking with him but he kept getting red in the face and increasingly angry....finally he just stormed off muttering some German swear words (which of course is the first thing you commit to memory when learning a foreign language). My teacher happened to be sitting at my table and she was holding her hand on her mouth and trying so hard not to laugh, that she was literally choking to death.

As you guessed it....had the wrong damn form....I kept referring to him in the feminine. Fuck me running but those bastards are touchy......:P Not my fault there are three forms! Just pick one and move on, what is the difference anyway.....:D

That was over 20 years ago and I still remember it like it was yesterday.

Ha ha ha :D Funny indeed :) Don't know why they still do that. In Dutch we used to have something similar I think, but now it's just 'de' and 'het', and I don't think they're male/female (male and female objects just don't make any sense, after all).

In Japanese this is all very, very simple. In fact, Japanese is an easy learners language because of the highly regular grammar. Just don't forget the politeness forms...
