can I have some tips on deciding which motherboard i should buy?

i want to get an Atx Lga 1151 (i bought a i7 6700k Skylake)

intel based mobo for this wicked chassis

but every time i read reviews for a 5 star or 4 star i see

stuff that says the mobo died for someone a few months later-

so yep i feel self conscious and id like some tips

*this is the 1st time i will build a pc- i spent months learning a ton about computer hardware

and compatibility of said hardware since the summer*

Read reviews for which Mobo company has the better customer service.

 

For me Asus has always worked(blind luck?) And the only MSI board I purchased was doa. I just purchased an Asus 970 pro gaming aura along with an 8350 black edition, hood luck for the both of us

Just make sure whatever mobo you get can accommodate your other components, that's really all there is to it.

 

Mine is a gigabyte, haven't had any trouble out of it. I've had pretty good experience with ASUS products.

the motherboard i have in my computer is the original ASUS ROG Crosshair, and it has been running for 9.5 years.

the motherboard in my mothers computer is the Gigabyte B75M-HD3, and it has been running for 3 years.

 

between the two of them it looks like Gigabyte motherboards are using better capacitors.

things happen look for the good, mostly its just things that happen but get a warranty just in case.

for those with an older motherboard, are you still using older ram? or is there a way to add new slots to an existing motherboard or is it something to keep an eye on?

 

I know my ddr3 slots won't work for ddr4 when i decide to upgrade (but fuck they expensive still), I assume the older versions also wouldn't fit just due to different number of pins/layout.

 

and also looking at motherboards check space as well as built in stuff. for example mine has an extra 4 pin (i think?) power supply plug to overclock my cpu. Once again i'm not sure if you can add those in without changing motherboards (like ram above).

Tbh the case you've picked looks like it will be a right bastard to fit the motherboard in due to what appear to be fixed expansion cradles it has (they might be removable but again will still be a ball ache)

 

Also i'd not trust the reviews a 100% since a lot of the "it arrived broke" are more likely i "touched the board while statically charged" or "i pushed to hard and cracked the connections" so are actually user issues rather than manufactoring

 

Other than that the motherboard has the same socket as the CPU you want (main thing) and it is DDR4 so just make sure to get DDR4 RAM, some decent thermal paste for when you stick the CPU in (usually go for arctic silver myself), remember to touch something big and metal before you begin (personally i've never felt the need for static matts and wrist bands but some feel they are a worthwhile) and to take your time and not panic and your all good

how would i go about installing the OS? would i need to buy

a disc reader?

Not necessarily, i've personally not done this before as i have an optical drive on my PC but it is possible to do an installation from a USB drive, i've taken a look and http://www.wikihow.com/Install-Windows-from-a-USB-Flash-Drive

 

Seems quite a good guide on how to do it though i can't speak from experience on this point

But I have almost exactly that case, or I did.

The little latches kept breaking.

It looked lots better online.

Then I got something from Antec that is cheaper than the case it is supposed to look like.

If it had been the actual case, it would have been modular and you could switch sections around.

But no, it's only for looks.

I can't go looking for the name right this exact second..."lanboy Air" maybe.

It looks like a cage for pets.

Yours looks immense which is truly great, if that's what you're going for, but right around the time I bought it, people were snarking about how biggie PC's were dead.

  The rest I couldn't read, lga yada whatever, but it sounds impressive.

If I had a wish or a rich dad, I'd buy the case that my case is supposed to look like,

or yours except it would be alienware and have heavy-duty latches.
