Hosting and moderating a forum. Advice needed.

So I have a website up. I hope the forum plug in is easy to use. This site is a Word Press site, but enough about that.

 

I actually started this topic because of what the title says. Any help from the experienced folks in charge here? I have patience with people already. Good start.

Wordpress isn't forum software, despite what plugin authors will try to offer you. The database structure is for a blog, and the plugins don't and can't change that, they just create a horrible hybrid junked up mess that overloads the database server. Use proper forum software like PHPBB, Invision, vBulletin, or simple Machines.

 

Then use the strongest anti-bot features you can to avoid 1000s of pages of spam topics which, again, will overload the database server.

 

Then make sure you're up on security patches to your given software to avoid worse things than just overloading the database server.

WordPress is OK for blogs.

But it becomes really difficult to use for real forums (like LoversLab.)

 

Also, it looks have difficulties when the number of connected users grows.

WP should not be involved in any way with a forums project. It is purely blogging software.

 

If WP is all your host offers, you need to change hosts.

Well, I will just put off the forum thingy. There are reasons enough, and building up the content is more than enough work for now.

That's the idea, and one of the reasons I won't share it here. It would probably violate the ToS, and it has nothing to do with the content here anyway. I thought that I would get good advice instead of what I wanted to hear. I was right. Advice here is heeded.
