dickhad Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 I'm aware of the download limit of 100mb but when its less than 100mb flash or RPG maker game.I think I would rather have it uploaded here rather than some weird website that's not even in English......
Thickthighsmallfeet Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 What websites and games are you referring to specifically? I would think that if the dev chose a site in another language then they probably prefer that language over English. In the case of RPG maker dlsite is pretty much the best option because it has been around and is used the most therefore the best exposure for your game. I think developers would also prefer to have their own page, even if it is a patreon page it is still better than a forum where it'll just get pushed back over time. A lot of devs also have a blog or website where you might buy their game directly so they can avoid fees on other platforms. Access to this area of LL is also restricted to logged in members I believe. If you want to link the download from another forum it is just adding a shitty annoyance to sign up. I see no benefits compared to say a mega link that you can just give out where ever and has very little restrictions.
myuhinny Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 People use whatever site they deem a good place to place their files. Not everyone uses LL as each file adds to the server. Many use what is readily available to them depending on where they live and not everyone wants their files on LL.

Solzucht Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 There are sides covering this, i think that is why LL doesnt involve in it that much? Its strong part is (to me) the modding community. Also would you expect LL to control each upload to be Virusfree, which means additional work. Atleast i would Also alot of games which get uploaded on other sides are not legally in each describeable way. Either by their content or simply because it is one of these games which usually would cost money. So i wouldnt mind if LL does add this option more, but i also do not mind if they do not. It is understandable.

Posting another persons work without their permission is generally considered a no no.
Thickthighsmallfeet Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Seems like needless busy work. Uploading files here means you need to maintain your files here also. If you don't own the games you will likely have some that become outdated. Leaving a link to the official source will ensure you get the latest version, official support if you need it and you are less likely to get malicious software as well. I imagine that when this collection of games begin to get big it'll be even more difficult to keep it up to date and organised. Sharing the site where they get the game, assuming the site is the official developer's post gives you the opportunity to find out more about the developers. Explore their history of games, upcoming games etc. It might also give the developer's some ad revenue when you visit their websites which is always a bonus when the ads aren't obnoxious. Even if the content is free to share it is common courtesy to link back to source, give credit and again allow the chance for the authors to gain support and fans.
