dinomagick Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 Hi Everyone. I am sure that the issue of CTDs and Freezing has been brought up, time and time again. So, I thought I would share something with LL about my experience dealing with this. I have clocked over 1200 hours with Skyrim and I am very into immersive and realism to the point of obsession. (Several of you already know this, *wink* wink*). I have over 150+ mods that cover everything from SexLab to Realistic Ragdolls as well as realism like iNeeds, Weather (not Climates of Tamriel) and Realistic Cover (go under an eve or bridge during a rainstorm and not get wet). Camping mods, CLoaks, Arousal, Creature Features... the works!! I use Loot and FNIS religiously to get everything lined up and working and even did some manual load order to move things around that Loot didn't catch. I have tried to make the game work with every mod I install, but still I couldn't stop some of the intermittent CTDs or the ever present, FREEZE!!!!! So, I ran across several websites and tried lots of different things. ENBoost, Skyrim.ini modifications, Papyrus Modifications, Preferences, Graphics Drivers, setting up the Displays, cleaning mods with Tes5Edit.... And I may have reduced the CTDs a good bit, but I was still suffering from Freezing a lot. At first, I thought it was Creature Features and all the constant checks for aroused creatures, armor checks, spells... etc.. As well as conflicts with BeeingFemale.... I just kept hitting a brick wall and began disabling some of the mods I loved... All of that did help performance, but the freezing only was reduced and I still had to ALT_TAB out of the game to End Task the game. "Then, upon the Altar of Talos, I was enlightened with a vision of having all my beloved immersion mods running without CTDs or Freezing!" Yes... Even I was amazed that 1 modification helped so dramatically, that after playing 14 hours straight, the game didn't freeze or ctd one time! The miracle of MY salvation was this mod: Safety Mod - (On the Nexus) As some of you may know and have given me lots of help, I have switched to using Mod Organizer for Skyrim... It helped a lot in finding what was causing many of my issues, but it was not as intuitive as Nexus Mod Manager... (I will not answer trolls about which is best, they are BOTH great managers, MO just has more details for the advanced folks.) Even with MO, I was not finding the issues plaguing the Freezing. Anyway, back to the Original Message. If your Papyrus.0 log doesn't seem to show anything innately wrong and it differs from time to time as to where it stops, check out Safety Mod! With everything I had tried, it wasn't until I loaded that mod that my game began to purr. Just so you get an idea, I run an AMD-8 Core processor with 16 GB of Ram, a Nvidia GTX 750Ti and a nice, juicy Samsung 500 GB SSD for my games. Special Thanks to Nazzzgul666 for his patience and understanding while explaining Mod Organizer to me and giving me helpful advice. And thanks to all of you here at LL for many previous posts as to explaining the various issues with your own game, because of that, i feel I needed to post and bring my own experience to everyone. I've learned alot, and maybe this information can help some of you, but other than the modification, I also learned to do some other fine tuning that has made my game sing like the wind in Winterhold!
Akzyra Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 Not sure how true, but with new tools like SKSE Memory Patch, this mod seems obsolete. Some say it is even bad and can cause problems. A useful mod to see if CTDs are memory related: Memory Blocks Log After crashing just look into the log-file: At the top is the MAX size, below the log how full it is. If the last line is the same as the MAX, you ran out of memory.Use SKSE memory patch to allocate more, or use Crash Fixes. (Yeah, seems obvious, but I stumbled around some hours not realizing that crashed my game whenever I went outside)

You're both right. Safety Load worked great but it has been made obsolete by the new functions in SKSE. To maximize your stability, I recommend this: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50244/? Just know that there is no such thing as a completely problem-free Skyrim, especially when you add mods. Save often.
dinomagick Posted October 16, 2016 Author Posted October 16, 2016 Not sure how true, but with new tools like SKSE Memory Patch, this mod seems obsolete. Some say it is even bad and can cause problems. A useful mod to see if CTDs are memory related: Memory Blocks Log<-- I used this one to check that exact issue out, about running out of memory, I never exceeded the MAX, but the game still froze. After crashing just look into the log-file: At the top is the MAX size, below the log how full it is. If the last line is the same as the MAX, you ran out of memory. Use SKSE memory patch to allocate more, or use Crash Fixes. <-- Already had this one, it seriously fixed 90% of the CTDs I was having. (Yeah, seems obvious, but I stumbled around some hours not realizing that crashed my game whenever I went outside) The biggest issue I was having, other than the intermittent CTDs, which, though were significantly reduced when I installed Crash Fixes, was the Freezing. The SKSE Memory patch I had not tried, thank you for pointing me at that. If I do run into issues with Safety Mod, I will dive into that one. Safety Mod so far, even though it is old, made the Freezing go away... So far. It has only been about 24 hours in this play through and I will watch it closely, Another addition I just realized since I got things working, was that loading times from going to an outdoor cell from and inside cell used to take forever!! Now, only in cites, like Solitude or Whiterun it takes a little while, but a LOT less time than it used to. TO be honest, I havent opened up Safety Load to see what it does, but whatever it did, made me a Happy Nord Ranger! Edit: Update - 48 Hours, no Freezing yet. 1 CTD caused by Issue with USB HeadSet getting unplugged --- Stupid Cat.... Edit: Update - 4 days, no Freezing yet. CTD 2 times FootIK crash on loading a save, cause -> Crash Fixes <- of all things. Disabled the foot IK check, and game runs fine again. I can play for hours and hours without freezing or crashing so far. Game runs soo good now. I will post all my mods that I am running so everyone can see the list. I am so far, very, very pleased with SafetyLoad and I am still recommending it. Even if it is 'old'.
