TheRockFromBocchiTheRock Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 The goal: Making a relatively simple mod that enables vanilla armor/clothes to be cosmetically damaged and eventually destroyed with damage. I had a few ideas that might make this work but I need some help putting them to use. -Using the models from the clothes, enable the character's body to show through -Enable damage to affect the article -Create damage thresholds, either: -Damage removes a random strip or area of clothing relevant to damage taken ( X damage removes Y amount of material ) or -Cosmetic damage occurs in segments, similar to Break Undies* and Clothing and Armor Destruction* ( after X damage is taken, Y part is removed ) -Maybe make repair possible using materials I could really use help with either making this happen, such as what software to use, or where I can find a mod like this. *Links for reference: Break Undies http://www.loverslab.com/files/file/439-break-undies-for-skyrim/ Clothing and Armor Destruction http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/57831/?

Guest Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 idk about having it remove armor relative to where it took a hit, sounds like a bit much. The simple way would to just code in an invisible health bar for armor, whenever armor reaches below certain thresholds, parts of it will come loose/break off. Also make sure the armor strength goes down gradually as it takes more damage. When its at 0 health then you have little to no protection from that armor, and the mesh is all worn and broken apart. Now you probably could do the localized damage, but I personally just think it's not necessary. I have no idea how to set it up though, but you could probably borrow from mods like this http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/12615/? with the authors permission of course.
gregathit Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Break undies plus does most of what you are talking about, so I'm not sure why you are trying to reinvent the wheel here. You are better off modifying what you do or don't like from that mod than trying to start from scratch. As to "showing through" - doesn't work. There is no body "underneath" armors. It is part of the armor/clothing in 99.9% of the mods out there. Many times the body that is part of the armor/clothing has been cut out or mashed down to "fit". Bodyslide armors may be better at this than conventional modding, but who knows until you investigate the mesh. Not trying to sour you, but it is often much easier to tweak something than create from scratch........especially something that is going to be script heavy!!! Best of luck!
BlaineSensei Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 if what nifskope could do , was possible to achieve ingame , this would be easy , one way is to make several nifs of an armor using nifskope , and scripting to change nifs based on damage :/

You're probably right about that; I was thinking of keeping this as lightweight and simple as possible anyway. I was going to start off with clothing though, if I did the random route, as it would make more sense for pieces of cloth to fall off rather than pieces of metal in the same manner.

I understand the similarity to BU+, and I'll probably end up studying how they did what they did and pretty much copy that method. What I really wanted to do though, was make something similar for vanilla items; something very lightweight and compatible with both CBBE and UNP body types. I have an idea or two on how to make parts of the armor transparent. Probably using nifskope, edit the meshes so that characters' body can be seen through the apparel. As for as the body cuts, that's something I hadn't thought about, so that might be a problem. Thank you for the input.

Not sure if you want to make your own mod, but i think themodder from BU+ would happily include your work if you provide meshes for vanilla armor to him. Afail the only reason there aren't more armors is, that he doesn't have time to make them. Maybe you can reach your goal without messing around with scripts at all.
