Questions for Skyrim

When I get a crash how can I kill Skyrim cause it likes to hang...Sometimes these crashes are user error as in I alt tabbed.

I'd also like to know how to turn off error reports for Skyrim as it seems entirely useless as well.

Tried to search these inquiries and what do you know I get nothing but stuff about error reports or snake oil on how to fix Skyrim crashes.

Now of course I know that I can put Skyrim in Windowed mode to stop alt-tab error but this also introduces issues with the lighting in the game.

The windowed mode would be my first suggestion but you know about that...

What I did before windowed mode was having the task manager open on my second screen and when skyrim crashes I move the mouse over there and kill the exe manually.

Btw I don't know what you mean with lighting issues in windowed mode, the only thing that does not work are changes in the gamma settings as far as I know.

PS. If you don't mean the papyrus log with error reports then I suspect you can't turn them off as this stuff usually is hardcoded.

Right well for one in windowed mode not having access to gamma actually changes how well some of the lighting mods will work, also if its particularly dark I cant adjust the gamma in a game menu or mod.

Sometimes the cursor isn't there, the game hangs with no way to kill the task.

I can alt tab sure, and I can also go to exit menu with CTRL ALT DEL but from there sometimes no mouse unless I unplug the mouse and plug it back in.

Mostly the task is hanging cause its trying to send off an error report, I'd like to kill that too, preferably altogether as there is no use for me to send off error reports of this nature.

I play most of time in windowed mode, no lighting bugs for me. Also I can't understand, why your client isn't close itself automatically when crashed. I has that issue only when installed [Crash fixes] by meh321, and I decides to uninstall it because it didn't bring any useful information for me. Without crash fixes when my client crashes - it closes automatically very fast after crash itself.

Ok I have crash fixes installed.

So I alt tabbed and the game would hang like hell, mouse would be gone, and no real way to force kill the process.

Wanted to know about Keyboard buttons I could use to kill the process.

Also when the program crashes I still get those error report messages about how its going to send information to Microsoft so I wanted  to know how to kill that for skyrim cause it seems when I do get a bad hang it likes to show that message as well.

But fart man IDK guess I'll try windowed mode again....I swear I've read somewhere that the lighting just isn't the same in windowed mode.

Never heard of ctrl alt del not working :o Maybe ALT + F4?

Other then that when tabbing out: Click on the Skyrim in the taskbar and after that use ALT + Tab again to select Skyrim and it should go back ingame, may take a few seconds but the game shouldnt hang.

Edit: Can you get into CMD when the game hangs? Using "tasklist" followed by "Taskkill /F /IM skyrim.exe" might work.

Alt+Tab out of the game and back in WORKS!

The game doesn't freeze, it just SEEMS to.

For Windows 7: If you alt+tab'ed out of the game, and back in, you have to alt+tab to the next application (which will not show!) and alt+tab back to Skyrim AGAIN, and then click somewhere on your screen (inside the Skyrim window) and the game should appear again.

For Windows 10: If you alt+tab'ed out of the game and back in, alt+tab again to the next application, and alt+tab back to the game again, wait 1-3 seconds and the game should be fine again.

Did you try OneTweak or is this the windowed mode you are speaking of?

Set your game to windowed mode and install this mod and no more crashes alt+tab'ing.

It's one of the most essential mods I have always installed.

Not sure about the lighting issue, since I never had that problem.

What I have to do if skyrim freezes or hangs on win10. Ctrl-alt-delete to get task manager, hover my mouse over the task manager icon in the task bar to keep it on top and don't use any mouse buttons or it just closes and goes back to frozen skyrim.

With task manager on top, hit tab and left right arrow keys until processes is highlighted, hit tab again and use up-down arrow keys and move until skyrim.exe is highlighted, hit tab until end process is underlined and hit space bar and it will close skyrim. I don't know how to turn off error reports and they are completely pointless, on 7 I can just close the thing and restart.
