Essential mods?

So I've decided I want to play through Oblivion again. Last time I played it was when it came out many years back on the Xbox 360. I'm wondering what are some mods to help fix the game up and improve game play experience while keeping it as vanilla as possible. I tried playing it a little and determined I'm gonna want to play it with a controller on the PC.

Playing Oblivion with a controller is going to be a rocky road.  The PC version just wasn't designed to work well with it, and controller support "at best" is pretty much just a hack, despite being from official sources.

That said, there are numerous pinned threads on mods, such as this one:  http://www.loverslab.com/topic/36443-oblivion-install-gametoolsbodiesbbbmod-sorting-and-cleaningcs-cse-body-stretching/

As to "essential"..........well, beyond OBSE, if you ask 100 folks that question, you'll get 100 different answers.  You'll need to better state your wants and fetishes, as well as your dislikes.  You can also just pop over to the nexus and hit their top 100 mods and scroll through them if you need ideas.

Cheers,

Indeed. Oblivion on PC has many mods that require their own keys on the keyboard.

OBSE is also my pick for #1. Not much cool works without it.

I would say, OCR and ENBoost (just the boost, no ENB settings) are essential as well (first for the water and other effects, latter for the NO MORE CRASHES!). OSR (Stutter remover) helps a lot too and has the fast exit function (no crashes on quit).

And of course WryeBash if you use many mods, for the Bashed Patch to make it all work together.

Essential modding tool TES4Edit (now also known as TESVEdit). Spend some time with it, it will allow you to repair any game breaking mods easily.
