Adult Interactive Fiction (AIF)

I know it's a small niche but I'm surprised there's no thread here for AIF games. For those who don't know, I suppose I should bring you up to speed:

For a long time now there's been adult text-adventures. I know most of you probably think they've died down since the early 90s but the fact is they're still around and a bit more modern... kind of. If you're not sure what I mean by text adventure, look up 'Zork' or 'Hugo', (basically 'Hugo' without graphics). You type stuff like, 'n' to go north, 'pick up bottle' to pick up a bottle and 'fuck ass' to fuck someone in the ass. As a result, a block of text will appear as a response and you as the player, type more stuff to do. If you're a literate man and imaginative as well, you'll get into it pretty easily.

There's a few websites out there for AIF, (google aifgames.com or the 'aif' yahoo group). The games will usually run on IF engines like ADRIFT, TADs, INFORM, RAGs or AGT if you're really, really going old school.

If anyone knows any cool AIF games to play, please post them here.

I myself would like to promote a game that I made which requires ADRIFT5 to run called, 'Another Friday Party 2'. It's a freely modifiable game which anyone can freely mess about with. The themes of it involve panty-stealing/sniffing, sleep creeping and slight voyeurism. I've attached a ZIP file at the bottom!

You'll need to download ADRIFT5 separately though.

Anyway, if anyone would to like to list more games, please do so.

To REALLY sell you guys on AIF, please check out 'School Dreams 3'; 'Meteor' and 'Gift of Phallius 3' by GoblinBoy. Search for them when you have the chance.

I used to play AIF games a few years back but it was extremely hard to find good ones IMO. Now, don't get me wrong. I'm an old fan of text-adventures, but, it takes quite a bit of skill to make text-adventures that are not just frustrating to play.

And to find that combination of A) a game that is well-written and B) a game that is not a complete chore to play was very hard in my experience.

But maybe I should give it a go again...

Personally, I find that the good, addicting ones will reward you with sex scenes that are 'worth the puzzle'. If you haven't played AIF in a while, I definitely suggest you check out 'School Dreams 3' and 'Meteor' to see what's been good in the AIF world lately.

For others, if you'd like to see something not too old but classic to get your feet wet: check out 'Moist', 'Generic New York Apartment' or 'Dear Brian'. In fact, I'd recommend these to just about anybody.

Also, here are some links to the websites I've mentioned:

Just a few more games worth trying that I'd like to add! Check out 'Pool Party' by chriscole. It's got lots of immersion and perviness. At the same time, if you want to pick up something that's pervy but very easy to just try or just have a go at it, I recommend 'Camp Windy Lake', also by chris cole.

Out of curiousity, has anyone been trying out AIF since I've posted this thread? Any opinions or questions?

I have tried to try them, but the absence of download links makes that difficult. I have searched out games by this name and they tend to be either really old or only available in forums where you have to join the forum before you can try to download anything.

The games that I have succeeded in downloading have had me playing characters that I do not like.

Worse, though, the games have had me playing "guess the noun", "guess the verb" and "guess the point" [of using the noun and the verb], and giving up after a few hours. This might be because of version requirements (for example, if I am playing an adrift4 game and .taf is associated with adrift5), but I am not sufficiently motivated to deal with undocumented software requirements.

I like the idea of text -- you can do things with text which you cannot do with graphics -- but so far, for me, AIF has not been fun.

Playing AIF while "flying blind" can always be a little frustrating at first. Especially 'guessing the verb'. However, there are common commands that can literally be used in ANY AIF game or engine. I'll gladly list some for you now.

n/north

w/west

s/south

e/east

up

down

ask character about subject

hit character

remove object

get/pick up object

push subject

pull subject

look

lie down

sit on object

stand up

x/examine object/character

i/inventory

give object to character

use object on object

put object on object

As a matter of fact, most AIF has a help command or readme file. If you end up ignoring all of that, you'll end up having a very hard time.

I know all of that, and I always looked up the help commands/readme. For me however, it is still a crappy system. I can understand the draw for others, but it isn't there for me.

Well, that's quite alright actually. I did mention in my first post that AIF doesn't exactly have the biggest crowd. However, if you're imaginative and patient enough, with some experience you can get a lot out of a good AIF. Did you play 'Meteor' or 'School Dreams 3' yet Nonsense?

I think the meteor was actually one of the first ones I played. Not sure about School Dreams. And trust me, I have plenty of imagination and patience. I para-rp. :P

If only it were that simple...

From my experience sen4mi' date=' it usually is. Really!

But a game only needs one exception to block you from the simple parts.

Also, even when following that pattern, if for example the object you need to use is not visible that does not do you any good.

Ahh yes, I do agree with that. I assume you're not talking about hidden objects you have to search for. But yes, it's usually a mistake when authors leave out important objects that should be apparent in the first place.

For those looking hard for some of the games I've mentioned, check out this link!

They have all the AIFs there, good ones and bad ones. Try looking for the games I've recommended here, including 'Meteor', 'School Dreams 3' and 'Dear Brian'.

GoblinBoy is the best! I think I played SD3 at least 8 times. It's amazing!

I've never heard of "Dear Brian", will try it out.

Thanks for the recommendation :)

Does anyone know of any good AIFs where you can get 'game over rapes' or molested for silly choices? I always found it hard enough to find adult AIFs, and ones where things fade to black, let alone any that catered to such personal kinks.

Posted

Well Daguy, unfortunately most AIF is done from a male's perspective so as you can imagine... there's little to none of that. However, there's bit's and pieces of that in 'Gift of Phallus 3', (like getting the bad-ending or a small part involving the queen). Also, in 'School Dreams 1 & 3' where you can rape some girls. You get a sex scene out of it but you get arrested right after. If I can think of anymore, I'll let you know.

Posted

Thanks. Yeah, its for playing as a female that makes it interesting. And sadly as you note most adult aimed AIF are male perspective.

Good news for those of you who have been playing GoblinBoy games and enjoying them. He's newest game is almost complete! There's talk that it'll be ready to play in roughly a months time. However, you know how these things really are: sometimes 1 month means 2. Anyway, I'll post about it here when it does come out.

Rachel's Bad Day comes to mind. It's a bit buggy and fairly linear, but you might get a kick out of it. The character goes from one humiliating situation to the next and the game touches upon a few different kinks along the way.

But yes, most AIF seems to be from the male perspective or include the tragically overused "lol ur a guy turned into a girl" trope.

Posted

Lol Rachel's bady day is screwed up.As it is I stummbles on AIF games a while back(just saw this post) and they can be addicted if you get the right ones. There's a few good runners out there like tads, adrift and a few others which with text games, you need to have a few different types of runners, people use different formats(I have tads 2,3 adrift 3.9 and 4, for example). The mini-comps are usually good for a few short games. All in all it usually comes down to personal preference. the aif community site is usually a good place to find games and anything done by Christopher Cole is usually worthwhile, the games are pretty well done and can be addictive.

EDIT: Entrancing sin and SSteacher are two that you play a female and while the teacher one is more like playing a female with a horny male mindset(think Billy madison and studying) Entrancing sin is a difficult to place and your character has a mind of her own and very hard to bend to what you want to do, you have to take your time and go slowly through it. Hope those help with ideas, and if I'd post some of the zipfils of the mini-comps but I didn't make them and I don't know how that works on this site(still a damned newb here)
