thk1 Posted June 30, 2012 Author Posted June 30, 2012 @TempesKilday For TADs games, look for a engine called HTML-TADS. It runs both TADS2 and 3. Also, it has a "games library" as a splash page.
TempestKilday Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 @ thk1 I also think that for those that want to make one of these games to try Inform 7, it allows you to write your own aif game(trying to figure it out). And thank you thk1, I've been looking for somthing to run multi-version games without having to have 3 different versions of the same program. Will look into it.
DontBotherMe Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 For a good interpreter that runs basically everything IF, check out Gargoyle. http://code.google.com/p/garglk/ And it's generally understood that if you have to play "guess the word" at any point in an IF game, then it wasn't written or clued properly, and ought to be fixed. Beta-testing usually hammers this stuff out, but I suppose AIF authors tend to skip it, since they don't want to show their perverted stuff to friends and family. Most AIF I find to be poorly done. Also, seconding Inform 7. It's awesome. You can even do Choose Your Own Adventure stuff with it, using an extension.
thk1 Posted July 2, 2012 Author Posted July 2, 2012 Gargoyle does run everything but one of the main complaints about it is that it will never show graphics. True story! I have seen complaints where someone will post: "hey, your game doesn't work. It says you look at the graphic for clues but there's no graphic to be seen. I think this is a bug". It's not until after that they'll say their using Gargoyle to run a ADRIFT4 game or TADs game. Even then they'll insist a game if broken because the graphic won't appear in the Gargoyle runner. Anyway, use with caution! Also, Inform 7 is indeed easy-to-learn code. But if you won't to avoid code all together, check out the new ADRIFT5.
Heliros Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 The one game that really got me hooked way back when was 'One Girl' by Dr khel. It's a bit of a hassle to find if your google-fu is weak, so here's a link: http://www.aifgames.com/Inform-Games/View-category.html?dir=DESC&limit=20&limitstart=0&order=name You'll need to sign up to be able to download, but it's free. If you can't be bothered with that, try http://ifdb.tads.org/viewgame?id=ed9w1m9dyz0y15z7 It's not quite like other AIF games, or as much of an adventure as an sexual sandbox game, and I wish there were more games like it. Without giving anything away, you are a guy in a room with a girl. The game is VERY freely made, so be careful with what you do. You'll need an z-machine interpreter, obviously. I recently rediscovered this game, and AIF's in general due to finding the excellent Android app 'Twisty' that supports .z2 to .z8 games. Perfect if you're on the go and need a rise. Sadly I don't think the devs are still working on it, but the current version works adequately. Also, I just realised that this'll be my first post on this forum, so hi.
