GIMP: Textures can't Be re-colored

Ok guys I am truly Stumped, FYI I am using Gimp 2.8.14 & I am trying to edit a texture But for some unknown reason I Can't re-color the texture no matter what I do, & if I try opening the texture up in Paint.net or Photoshop for that matter I get an error & it' can't open does anyone know what I can do to be able to edit the texture?? I am trying to edit All the textures from this one outfit & non of the textures work

Should be able to colour it then.

When something doesn't work look for any warnings. With this .dds file when you try to do any thing like recolor color balance or any of them it will throw up different errors with a big red triangle with a ! in it at the bottom of the screen. 2 Errors show up one is operates only on RGB color layers and the 2nd one is does not operate on indexed layers.

 

Paint-net didn't work but for me it loaded it into photoshop just fine without any problem but has the same error as gimp2. Photoshop is set up the same way as gimp2 for converting it from index to RGB so just go to *image - mode - RGB.
