feral Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 At the risk of being social, I just want to vent about something that kinda gets on my nerves. This little vent is sparked by some assholish behavior by a mod author on Bethesda.net. It's nothing really all that important but the arrogance, or rather a severe lack of etiquette is kind of irritating to me. A mod author changed his mod description to complain about users asking questions about another mod in the comments section, saying that the other mod is not available on consoles. This wouldn't really be an issue if this unrelated mod wasn't featured in the preview pictures for the weapon mod, pictures featuring a masked character holding a pistol; the pistol being the intended mod and the mask being the irrelevant mod. Perhaps I'm kind of alone on this, but in my less-than-professional opinion is "You brought it on yourself, mod author", for displaying another mod in the preview screens for your mod, of course people are going to ask about it; so why couldn't you be arsed to do a "clean" display of your mod project? It's not that difficult... ==Oh, some people are asking about a mod I accidentally displayed along side mine in a display; AND I don't want to continually be asked about this unrelated mod== Polite and considerate move: Take new screenshots Dick move: "Shut up about this other mod." Just sayin'!
Guest Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 This should go in the "rant tread", or maybe a new "vent thread". Now you have some modders that are "professional", they answer to questions, they update the mod, they actually do some work. And some, less hard worker modders, that will post whatever they want. And then people that will just blame anybody because of their own fault. It is Internet. Give me some Likes! Look at this wonderful picture of a slaughtered puppy I posted! How cool I am! Let's just hope real modders will follow the "Polite and considerate move". But do not expect too much from humanity. Just saying.
feral Posted June 21, 2016 Author Posted June 21, 2016 TBH what really burns my ass about this is the blatant disregard to being remotely civil, and more over; I could do a better job than he did if I could use the tools. But alas, I'm just a humble console pedant.
darkconsole Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 to be fair i get annoyed to all hell when people fill the comments with "what mod is that" "where did you get that outfit" to the point i delete them when the site lets me. here i am putting an assload of work into a feature, and here is some asshat who didn't even want the mod filling the thread with stupid horndog questions. at first its fun, oh man people are talking on my shit. then you get tired of answering the same things over and over. then you get tired that nobody even cares what you did. i want to spend less time on pointless things and more time appreciating people who care. its also a catch 22. people will skip great mods because the screenshots sucked, thinking its out of date or something. but then the great screenshots drag you into a spiral of annoying idiocy having to be the personal modding tutorial for each individual user. like the backpacks. i honestly dont know what mod added my backpacks. i found them in armorsmith i have like 500 armor mods installed.
Guest Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 People that never received an adequate education will never change.

The problem here is forethought, if I made a weapon mod the last thing I'd want to do is be showing off a bunch of irrelevant mods I either can't share or don't want to talk about. Like showing off an M1 garand with a stogie in my character's mouth, cos I know someone or a bunch of people would be interested in that. it just doesn't make sense to me, that's all.

GrimReaper Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 Well, smart people put the links to the mods used in the screenshots into the description, if available of course. Also it's not a very good idea to showcase more than one mod (i.e. yours) in your screenshots anyway. Advertising companies work like that, too - depending on which product is in the spotlight, the rest of the scenery (like clothes, furniture or whatever) is as bland and uninteresting as possible as to not divert your attention from what is important.
darkconsole Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 real life example: on spellshots i had one tool replying to every single comment (ive since deleted) asking where the tattoos were from. after 3 days there was 1 reply from him on each post asking about the tattoos. never mind the fact if you type tattoo into the nexus search its literally the first thing that pops up. christ man. you might be a great and reasonable guy, but its people like that who ruin a modders patience with everyone. after enough of that even the most innocent of questions can ignite a pile of pet peeves. the downside to beth.net is that its still new, and it has opened a whole new community of people who haven't learned the customs yet to a group of people already tired of their crap, before they even knew they had crap to give. the console players are literally the same as i was the first time i went to comic-con. i made the mistake of tapping some guys armor to find out what it was made out of. huge fucking mistake. one i'll never repeat. he went ape. several of my mods have enough of a following that some of my regulars have taken up the mantle of answering the terrible, repetitive, and often poorly thought out questions. i cherish every single one of them. they are the real heroes, doing community stuff for the community - leaving the things that actually need support available for supporting.
darkconsole Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 and my annoyance is not just about me, mind you, it is what i am best at complaining about. some support threads have hundreds of people following it, so that they can see updates, and then it gets filled with unrelated garbage pinging people who care only about the original mod. looks like i killed the thread though.
D_ManXX2 Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 The modder must have learned this tactic from bethesda then, aren't we always seeing stuff at E3 and then when the game is released some stuff get cutt out from the original game ?? Isn't that the same thing, and these are the game devellopers. Btw don't forget most modders are gamers too so they will play with mods just like any other user.. So keep that in mind.
FGmodule Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 As a prolific mod user, and occasional mod author, I personally consider it poor form to have other mods visible in your screenshots and not have a little note listing the other mods used, or at least being willing to answer questions about the other mods when asked.

Out of how many users who commented along with this guy? There are going to be people like him on the internet, that's pretty much to be expected. It's understandable to get annoyed by their actions, but it's one guy that you could have easily blocked communications with them. I also understand that on the Nexus you can block registered users from even accessing your mods. I get that though, but it seems a bit unfair to group everyone in with the actions of one or a few. In a hypothetical situation, if you were being a complete tool to me here on LL, I'd have a problem with you; not the entire LL forum. Get where I'm coming from? But that kind of thing isn't even what I'm talking about anyway. Speaking of console modding, as a person who has modded (privately) for PC and has now been downloading mods for the console, I really don't see much of a difference between the PC and Console communities, except that console users are obviously new comers and the growing pains that come with that. But basically every criticism the console users are given, are repeated by PC users daily; from a rational standpoint I really see no difference. But going back to the original topic at hand, and perhaps I'm just being a bit on the tin foil hat wearing paranoid freak; but this specific modder in question is either too lazy to make basic edits to their "advertisement", or is intentionally taunting console users by presenting a mod that is not available to them, in the previews of his own mod. Whether or not I'm right, it's still very bad form. @D_ManXX2: Yeah, I fully understand that. But I don't think it's an excuse for this kind of behavior.
