shadow2k Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 I don't know how many of you might be familiar with my game series, Grrl Power, which I used to post on Hongfire, but it's been a long time since I've updated it, mainly due to a run of terrible events which cost me alot of data and resources. Anyway, long story short, Grrl Power survived thanks to fans who maintained online backups of my dev files through torrents and because of this I was able to continue working on it once I was able to recover the motivation to do so. In addition, I have been working on another project but I'm not going to say much about it right now. I was going to make this post on Hongfire but it seems something has happened to the site. I haven't been able to access it for more than a week now and I'm starting to think it's time to find a new home for Grrl Power. This is a game project I've been working on for years. It's probably the biggest project I've worked on, at least as far as H-games go. The first version of Grrl Power was an ambitious test that had alot of problems but was apparently popular enough to pick up the fanbase which eventually carried me on to develop Grrl Power 2, a redesign of the entire game intended to fix alot of the issues that the original game had. The far-future ultimate version of the game would be Grrl Power 3d, which I considered prototyping in Unity before a power surge last year destroyed both my main work data and all of my onsite backups, rendering all the work i had done in Unity destroyed. Admittedly, all of that data was for another project which I was using to learn Unity in preparation for eventually getting started with Grrl Power 3d, but the loss gutted my motivation and took me out of game development for a while. Now that I'm getting back into it, I'm starting back with familiar territory, RPG Maker. I'll dive back into Unity eventually. While I have done probably 90% of the work of actually building Grrl Power in RPG Maker VX, I have to acknowledge the game's fanbase as well, many of whom contributed fixes, code, art, music, sound, and more, which have helped to make the game the reality it is today. I can never claim total credit for the game, it is as much my child as it is that of its fans. I think this is responsible for much of the game's current level of quality, which I am quite happy with and hope to be able to at least maintain or (ideally) improve going foward. Ok so now that that's out of the way, you might be wondering what the heck Grrl Power is? Grrl Power 2 is a roguelike (or "roguelite") RPG with hardcore hentai elements. It has an enormous scope, but only because I don't want to limit how far I can take the game. It's not a project with a definite endpoint or goal, it's just supposed to be a big development playground for me to build over time. My goal is to provide a game that is playable and then add to it as time goes by. If I move the project to a new engine (such as Unity), I can take developed assets and port them over, because that's how I'm designing everything I put into this game. This is different from the way most games are made, but I am enjoying the process so far and I think the game's fans are too. Think of it kinda like Dwarf Fortress. That game will never be finished, but it's still fun for those who enjoy that sort of thing, and it's an environment the developer can just play in, building more of the game, trying new things, and over time creating a growing, evolving game that its fans will keep coming back to. I want that for Grrl Power. It's been in development for years, and will probably continue this trend indefinitely. The feel of the game is light and colorful on the surface but with a dark and sinister underbelly. It takes place in Capital City, a fictional American city, starting in the year 2038. You play a female character, around 18 years old (but not younger), though beyond that you have alot of creative control over how she looks, her stats, abilities, and so on, like with any roguelike game. Ultimately it will be an open-world adventure/life-sim sort of game where you can just kinda do anything you want, though I do want to have optional scenarios and goals that you can do, and scripted adventures for more directed gameplay. Current Status: The goal right now is to create a stable, working simple Roguelike RPG with a dungeon full of enemies, loot, and a town level. I'd say that phase is about 90% complete though there are some major points that still need done and it still needs more testing. Fortunately, I just completed a huge testing and bugfixing session which brought the game up from "unplayable mess" to "playable mess". At least, I think so. There's undoubtedly still bugs and unfnished features but I have a new development roadmap which I think will lead to something much more pleasing for the end-user. Right now you should be able to create a character, buy and sell stuff in town, and go into the dungeon hideout (accessible through the sewer entrance in the downtown area). There you can fight thugs, collect loot, and level up. Typical Roguelike faire. Right now only a few weapons are implemented so the combat is rather basic, but I will be working on that in the future. Most of the hentai in the game is concentrated in non-terminal failure states, basically if you get defeated in the dungeon you get raped. This system is actually rather elaborate as it's intended to create a variety of dynamic scenarios based on random outcomes, what you're wearing, what you've done so far, and a mess of other variables that all interact. So there's no actual "sex scenes" persay, the game just kinda generates a scenario on the fly, though it's largely text. I wanted to do animations but the overhead for that is so massive and I have almost no artistic skills. I used a heavily modified version of Illusion's Schoolmate and alot of image editing to produce the graphics the game uses for hentai and this pretty much just amounts to the player's paperdoll. All sex is text erotica and dialogue and there's a LOT of it. So if you don't like reading, you may want to avoid this game. One semi-unique concept in this game is that it's almost impossible to die or get a game-over. Most failure states in the game don't end the game, but there are consequences. There are some mechanics which tie-in to these outcomes, though obviously you always have the option of just reloading a save if you don't like losing. This game will probably appeal to you if you have any of these sexual inclinations: - Crime Fighter Girl - Clothing Destruction - Rape/Ravishment - Bondage (though at the moment this is somewhat light) - Underwear Fetishism - Female Protagonist/Female POV - Big Breasts (right now the only breast size available for the player is large) - Bra Fetishism (there are even bra size and fitting game mechanics!) - Lactation and Milk Harvesting - Slavery (fairly light right now though there is an optional gameover you can achieve which results in your character becoming enslaved for life) - Petite girls (the player character is assumed to be petite) - Pregnancy List of Features: (current) - Roguelike RPG - Character Customization with lots of clothes - Defeat Rape - Crafting System (technically this is implemented but its very light right now) - "Action" Battle system (uses the old ORBS combat system, basically push a key and shoot a projectile or attack what's in front of you) - Weather mechanics (there is a dynamic weather system in the game though it doesn't have a huge effect on gameplay) - Two different character starts: Freeform (Everyday Grrl) and Freeform with a spaceship (Spacer), though not much difference in these yet Planned Features: (this list could potentially be enormous, so here's just a few) - Space Exploration (I have so many ideas for this and am really motivated to do this but it's a HUGE undertaking) - More Procedurally generated dungeons - Scenarios (chosen at character creation, these give you a starting situation and a goal to accomplish before the game opens up) - Adventure modules - Space Combat - Life Sim features - A "High School" Adventure, finish your Senior year at High School complete with all the hentai hijinks one might expect from such a thing - A "LAN Party" Adventure, prove girls are just as good as guys at games, or use your "unique assets" to have a different kind of fun - Persistent world: ability to retire one character temporarily and run another character in the same world, and even find one of your previously enslaved characters and free her, or do other things to her. (I have some ideas for how this could work, but it's probably going to be a big project) Requirements (Download first): RPG Maker VX RTP: http://www.rpgmakerweb.com/download/additional/run-time-packages NOTE: Make sure you get the VX version. The VX Ace version will not work for this game. You can get both if you feel like it but the one you want is the old VX RTP. You can support me on Patreon if you like, it really helps since I'm making this game entirely in my free time which is very limited these days. If I ever manage to get enough from Patreon, I would really like to start doing full time development. I know there is alot of anti-Patreon sentiment these days, so that's why the Grrl Power series is free for all. Donations are donations, you're not buying anything. The money just really helps. My Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/user?ty=h&u=262812 This is a game project I've been working on for years. It's probably the biggest project I've worked on, at least as far as H-games go. Most of the data you're downloading isn't even accessible in the game. This is my development build. I decided a long time ago that trying to maintain a separate "public" build didn't really justify the time it would take to create it each release. So you're getting a ton of unoptimized assets, unused resources, and crap which may not be accessible in the game for years, or ever. It may even end up being removed if I later decide I didn't need it after all. I only have so much time to devote to development, and I'm sure GP fans would prefer if I used that time to actually develop the game, rather than optimizing each release for general consumption. As far as actually running the game, it should run just fine. Let me know if you experience crashes or excessive slowdowns. I'm investigating these. Bug reports are welcome, but if I seem to ignore you don't worry about it. Chances are I either saw your report or it's a known issue already under investigation. lorm42 Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Hmm you lost my interest ages ago. I played v1 for quite some time but you lost me in the end as it seem you couldn't pinpoint your development focus. So many got added, removed added and changed in a regular interval that nearly no way forward could be seen. Many improvements seem to be minorities for me as a games as a developer i most time could follow your improvements but content wise it seem very small. It always felt like one step forward, two steps back. v.2 couldn't get my attention because it seem like a "proof of concept" most of the time with nearly no content. Your still low on game content ?
visby Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 So I get RGSS202E.dll could not be found when I try to run it. I have RPGVXAce installed. Edit: Ok it seems you need RPG Maker VX to play the game, RPG Maker VX Ace wont work with it.

visby Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Well I've run into a bug. I was at my car at home (I think) and the screen is now black but I can still bring up menu's and such but no way to fix it. Also is their any game play yet? So far all I could do was Make a character, dress the character, move a round some of the game world, visit vendors and buy stuff, that seems to be it. Did I miss something or did you you just want to get feed back on the basic ground work? OK I got the black screen a second time went to the industrial dist was told not implemented going home and then black screen. I managed to get back in the car and go off clearing the black screen. Edit 2: ok use PDA to get jobs move to sewer cap in commercial dist and hit enter to go into sewers.
Toramizu Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Once again, you are aiming too big. As a game dev, I have to give a few advices... I don't usually post on those forums, but seeing how you left your first game, you're on the wrong path for this one too. Rather than putting everything in your game at once, you should focus on what's important first, then expand on what's already functionnal. First : Character creation. You have one active and one passive, you don't really need to make a buch of types (like the 4 elements part) and the charachter's background don't need to be here at this state of the game. Next : Choose the main interest in your game and build upon it. You can do combat first, then you'll develop friendly NPCs, etc... and that space part of the game... forget it for now, you'll come back later. Finally : Do one dungeon (or one anything, if you don't start by combat), and fix everything about it until it is interesting and bug free. Here, we have access to the sewers (the only dungeon I found) and we can go in but... why? There is no real need to go there, as it isn't really interesting. Then you'll have to make it more user friendly. Even for an alpha, there are "it's a WIP" everywhere, and it sometimes crash the game (like the car...). Don't show them, or show us a sign before we try to do anything. Don't let us get out the house to the street if there isn't anything, show us which menus in the car are usable before selecting them.
XJ347 Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 I remember you over at hongfire.... To bad about hongfire, while is wasn't super active anymore since they removed pirated content, it was home to some unique stuff. Hope it comes back. As for your Alpha, I will give it a try in a few hours. Hmmmm well not much to see yet. You have a super through character creation... I like it, though it took a while to get through. I like the concept of creating your background. I choose the almost rape victim, and then went combat. So she decided to be strong enough to fight off attackers in the future. I like things like this. Seems like there will be no main story, just events to discover. I'm personal not a fan of that, but I see how others would. I'll check out past character creation tomorrow... and edit the post again.
shadow2k Posted June 10, 2016 Author Posted June 10, 2016 Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I recently came to the realization that the game's scope was too big and I was focusing too much on the big picture. While I still don't want to limit the game's overall potential, I have realized the need for more limited and concise short-term development goals. That's why I've started cutting features and reorganized my development roadmap going forward. Right now the goal is to rework the game into a relatively simple dungeon crawler. It will have 3 dungeon levels and probably a boss at the bottom to kill. Once that's done, I can use that as a foundation for further growth. I know development is slow but I don't have very much time to actually devote to development, so that's just how it is. You could ask why I even bother and my answer is because it's fun. Maybe it's slow but I'm not going to stop, because I enjoy it. If you don't like waiting, don't. There's plenty of other projects out there, I'm not asking anyone to hold their breath. Come back and check it out again years later if you like, or don't. It's fine either way. In the meantime, it'll be here and wherever else I post it.
Cezul Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Hey man, I remember playing this a year or so ago and thought it had a lot of potential.Just think small, and do it little by little.
shadow2k Posted June 11, 2016 Author Posted June 11, 2016 Hey man, I remember playing this a year or so ago and thought it had a lot of potential. Just think small, and do it little by little. Yeah, that's the lesson I've been learning. When you have big ideas like I do, it's one of the hardest lessons to learn, but I think I'm getting there. I'm thankful for everyone's patience and support in the meantime.
Baconsama Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 Could you upload to somewhere aside Mega? Every time I try to download a file larger than 1gb it claims to be overloaded and puts a 7 hours clock to free the download.

Every time I try to download a file larger than 1gb it claims to be overloaded and puts a 7 hours clock to free the download. I used to have a Rapidshare account but lately it's getting hard to find good free file hosting sites. I'm open to suggestions, though. I just need a site that can handle a 3gb+ file.
redwind21 Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Glad to see you're back up and running! I love your work.
dazric Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Oh man I thought this was dead, and I had put it in with all the other "products i want but will never see." Good to see you're still alive and working!
okoto9 Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 I love this game! I simply do! I loved what you did with the first game and everything in it. The second one is great as well (although it didn't have the animations that the first one have but i guess you can put that at any time so its fine) and I keep them both on my PC My suggestion would be to keep your eyes on the big picture but start things nice and easy and dont just try to implement a lot of content all in one go. As the others said try to improve the things you already have but I say keep your eyes on that big picture! Love you man keep on doing what you are doing! <3
Lagaard Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 Oh god I remember Grrl Power from ages ago. I did really love the concept and the scope of it all, but I want to just kind of mirror the opinions already stated. While its not a bad idea to have a grand scope, for now just focus on the little bits. Flesh out stuff piece by piece. I mean, taking Dwarf Fortress as an example, Toady focuses his development in stages. Finishing it bit by bit, instead of just throwing it all in at once. Still its great to hear this is a thing again! I really did love playing around with Grrl Power, and I did love the LAN Party. But I admit, this is because strip games are something of a fetish of mine, and disappointingly few games ever use strip games properly.
TooskilledforU Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 Whenever I try and run this game it starts, then says, "RGSS Player stopped working" I have RPG Player VX installed. What is wrong.
shadow2k Posted July 9, 2016 Author Posted July 9, 2016 Remember to get the VX RTP here before running the game: http://www.rpgmakerw...n-time-packages If you have it and you're still having problems running it, let me know.
Sural Argonus Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Game looks great, but the hell...I found the combat in 1 better. I cant even get a fight going in 2 to work properly. She just sits there and gets beaten up. Took the "3 Sisters" background too, and can't even summon the sister. Also chose the Best Friend skill, can't even summon the best friend. Sitting at home like it says, but it says I need to be at home to summon either.

Thanks for testing, it seems one of the scripts has screwed up the party handling, so I've decided to just rewrite the game into a single-character rpg. I'm moving party mechanics to another project. Community scripts really add alot of functionality to games in RPG Maker but sometimes they can hinder them too.
saviliana Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 Um, sorry to report that the filelink to mega of 0.31 was down.
shadow2k Posted September 24, 2016 Author Posted September 24, 2016 Looks like the links changed when I reorganized my mega folders so that my most recent updates will only be accessible to patrons. Here is a new link to GP2VX: https://mega.nz/#!5x8jSQxQ!JuWMixh38ke7K6_bqMJ5I-_Srkur0LEFnfkHIFRJmbc I haven't really had time to work on this much, avoid party mechanics for now (no companions).
