wilderness/hunter/ranger mods

are there any mods that add completely random things to do in the wilderness?

i really want to play a ranger, running around unpopulated areas doing things. the problem is there is nothing to do. i was considering making a mod that just adds random passive quests like "kill loot 4 elk skins, sell them to guy in drunken huntsman" and other various wildnernessy junk. for the most part i dont really want to do any of the actual quests on this character. i just want to waste time before zonking before bed, etc.

[addendum]

not looking for mods to set up campsites, make loot fall of animals, or armors. looking for things to /do/ things to /see/

not sure if these are what you were looking for. Random encounters , Extra encounters , these add random encounters to skyrim and OBIS adds more bandit spawns. these do end up increasing the stuff you can do while roaming around. Also morrowloot might make exploration more fun i guess. hope this helps

edit: this might help

Thanks a lot! The encounters mods are great! will try the Wildlings mod in my next playthrough!

Thanks again!

What type of things do you have in mind? Just things along the lines of kill x animals?

I had this problem myself and still haven't figured it out. I always do light roleplay for my characters, but when I thought what a ranger/hunter would do, it was mostly boring everyday survival stuff or hunting for pelks to sell.

Currently I am playing a hunter type character and I use this: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/70142/?   for my "jobs" basically there is always a Pelt job in there. Like get 20 such and such pelts for so and so etc.  I also use Skytest for more natural animal behavior and it seems to add more animals as well? Perhaps this will help? :)

i really dont know. i just want something to do on my archer that isn't just hunting animals and doing nothing with their furs and dying.

checking out that notice board mod now. "this mod will destroy your social life" is a pretty decent description of what im looking for.

Sounds like your character could use some light roleplay to give them some goals.

The other option I go for is a non-stop combat survival playthrough by using a modified version of Zombie Apocalypse.

notice boards looks promising. the main issue, i think, at least my version of it tonight, is that there is just nothing to do without going to a city. i keep thinking to myself "what would preking strider do" and the best i can come up with is "sit around a camp fire doing nothing" >_> lololol.

so i separated the powershot arrows from my windrunner mod i'm never going to finish and customized the quiver and arrow today. thinking ill make some custom ammo and release a small set or someshit.

This idea seems to work well with Trykz "Wildlings" mod: you can do more outside the framed quest-content fo the game, turning it into a sandbox version. Might be good idea to enhance that project - not saying: "continue" this work, but "hey, maybe this has potential for a joint-venture".

The sandbox feeling in Skyrim kind of disappears after 5 minutes of playing through what one suspects to be free, quest-less areas, because you can't take even the slightest walk without stumbling over some quest NPC.

Well, just my 2 cents - hope that's okay blathering them about.

"light rp"

rangers make arrows.

therefore the act of modding and not playing meets the conditions.

lol

Well, by light RP I meant giving the character some backstory to provide some motivations and goals for them. Because we have to operate within the constraints of what Skyrim and Skyrim mods enable, I found this generally meant providing a reason for my characters to leave their regular routine.

I haven't done many ranger characters so I don't have too many examples, but below are a few simple ones (first two I find less interesting):

  1. A friend or mentor disappeared and now the character is traveling around in an attempt to find them. This provides a reason to enter towns and cities. If Familiar Faces was updated and stable, that would be a perfect mod to use as it'd enable creating a follower that wanders around all of Skyrim.
  2. Revenge (this is so overused). For whatever reason, the PC is out for vengeance against either a specific NPC or a group of them. But as with all vengeance, once the deed is done then the next question is "now what?" This is a less compelling motivation and generally is only useful as a precursor to something larger (i.e. in the course of seeking revenge, a larger goal is created)
  3. Thrill-seeker. PC used to enjoy the thrill of the hunt, but now that isn't enough. The PC now seeks larger and more dangerous prey: humans. This is more open-ended and you can do more with it. Could be as simple as a reason to do bounties with The Noticeboard or more complex such as a gradual descent into darkness.

other than one of the quests sending me to dustman's cairne which is locked until you do the companion quest, The Notice Board was a great addition to the game in terms of giving me random things to do. "oh god, 24 bear pelts!??!?... well... actually... ok. i can ranger the shit out of that"

i don't know how helpful my suggestion will be....

1) role play: since you are playing as a ranger/hunter skills such as smithing , enchanting are off limits...these skills require knowledge which frankly a hunter shouldn't have..on the other hand alchemy should be maxed

2)scarcity: gold income in skyrim is too easy use this to limit your income http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/49496/?

3)trade routes: the gold values for item are changed according to the location...which will make you travel to get the best price for your loot.. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/49369/?

4)professions : introduces professions and gives buffs accordingly if i'm not wrong there is a ranger class listed

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/18258/?

5)Loot and Degradation: goes well with no smithing role play http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/55677/?

After seeing this thread I had to give Notice board a try aswell. Never heard of it before. It does work wonderfully with the missions and stuff and the message board has some nice fluff to it (the author sure spent some time writing up random nonsens for it).

Fun thing though... It seems "The Dollmaker" from Cursed Loot wants me to find her a full set of heavy armor....  I knew she was trolling me all along! >.<

Let's see. I'd recommend...

Disparity: Has things such as race, class menu, standing stones acting as a birthsign system with the option to make it permanent so it disables changing it in the wild.

NPC Reactions: Ever wonder why npcs don't react to you wearing things like Forsworn armor in Markarth, Thieves' guild armor, Dark Brotherhood armor, etc? Well now they will to either taunting and threatening to outright running from you in fear or attacking.

Edit: Ok, this was my 666th post...lol.
