Guest Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 Hey guys, have two questions - I found a new textures. The folder contains many files and I got confused reading on some forums that I don't need to copy them all but the main one, and others say I need them al.. Since I have bad experience with manual copy/paste/overwrite and don't want to mess up something I need to know: 1. What is the main file? Is it "...femalebody_1_msn.dds" or "femalebody_1.dds" and should I copy only the main one? or 2. are these 4 files needed too .dds_msn.dds_s.dds_sk.dds Please direct me what to do since I'm not familiar with these things. Thank you.
27X Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 DUMB. *points* *.dds is the diffuse file. This is the main skin file. This is what your char looks like with. *_MSN or *_N is the normal map. This is the map that gives your character their definition and simulates 3D stuff like hair, muscle tone, nipples, clitoris (LEAP) etc. *_S is the specular map. This map determines how shiny your chacracter is. The whiter the map, the shinier the character. Used mainly for vampire shit and sweat and being wet in general. *_SK is the subsurface map. This map is used in certain lighting to show the blood under your skin and determines how much tint your character gets in direct light and what color it is. Also make sure the new skin you have fits the body your character has. (CBBE/UNP/ etc) Also also keep backups so you don't have overwriters remorse. just stick the copies somewhere you'll remember them.
winny257 Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 all four files are important, as already @27X mentioned. Here are some example mods. gloss effect. Dry Skin by Svarog http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/31782/? or GlossTech - Glossify your Skyrim Experience by MonoS94 http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/5437/? who this mod not used, has a Ugly Bronze effect on the skin. No More Ugly Bronze Shine by COTS http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/29791/? Dry Skin and No More Ugly Bronze Shine are with all body types compatible!
winny257 Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 Thanks winny. I forgot one to mention, these designations are only valid for the head!!! .dds _msn.dds _s.dds _sk.dds these designations are for hands and body. _1.dds _1_msn.dds _1_s.dds _1_sk.dds without _1 for hands and body, you will get problems.

Guest Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 Just one observation about overwriting the head textures. (I'm using UNP body and I'm always watching to install standalone followers with adequate UNP body) I have a standalone follower whom i take into adventures occasionally. All suggestions giving in this thread worked fine (thank you all) except overwriting head with the textures from ".../actors/female" folder, the one that gives textures for all female NPCs in Skyrim except standalone followers . When I overwrote her head textures with all suggested files, her face was different and lighter in color from the rest of her body. But when I returned her head textures back, all worked fine. After that I did the same thing to another standalone follower, just for testing purpose. Same thing happened until I returned her head textures back. So, I guess overwriting head doesn't work for all and in all cases.
