Mister_Monster Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 My current rig is older. I have not dared to download any ENB's or big downloads. I want to mod the heck out of Skyrim and Fallout. With that in mind, whats important to be sure I get? I'm not asking for a massive breakdown...just a few important things, like a video card, RAM and such.
Tepi Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 If you can, wait for a few months until we know about AMD's new GPUs and where they stand in terms of performance.
Akzyra Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 One important thing if you want Skyrim and other older games to use all available VRAM:On Win10 M$ fucked up and older directX version like Dx9 which is used in Skyrim will only use ~4GB. Dx11 for Fo4 is fine. Use Win7. Here is a tool from Boris to test it. The usable VRAM reported is a combination of real VRAM and normal RAM, sometimes even SWAP space (RAM that is not used for a while gets saved on disk. That can range from some GB up to 64GB of swap. Don't freak if you see 50+GB)
Wartoot Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 2 things: Wait a few weeks up to months for the next line of GPU's. these cards will have a major increase in bang4buck Secondly: Don't save any money by not buying a decent power supply unit! Buying a shitty PSU can result in a shit ton of issues, including ruining every part of your pc.
myuhinny Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 If you are getting a premade one make sure you get one that is upgrade-able. Meaning make sure that it has space and components can be upgraded to better components later on don't buy ones that can't be upgraded.
Afro68 Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 At this point if you haven't done anything you could be golden. Depending on what you want to do the next line of GPU's for team green(Nvidia) will be available 5/27 and 6/10. If you don't want to go all the way to the top tier there are deals out there now. As gamers prep for the Nvidia 1080 on the 27th, they are dumping their 900 series GPU's like crazy. Alledgedly benchmarks from 3rd party reviewers can be posted on the 17th and that is what alot of people are waiting on including me. I'm already prepping to shut down my rig and sell my 980's on Wednesday and just console game until I can get my new cards as the longer I wait the more value my 980's lose. I don't know what you're using now but you can get a really good deal on 980's and 980 TI's right now which aren't the top tier anymore but more than enough especially if you're only running a 1080p or 1440p display.
