TheRavenGod Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 I'm not sure how old my knowledge is, as I've not really been paying attention to the hard drive world recently. However, I remember that you needed to be careful reading and writing to SSDs, as they would quickly die if you accessed them too often. Now, I'm assuming in comparison to other activities its negligible, but I wanted to ask first before ruining my nice new SSD. Considering how often the modded files are accessed and updated, as well as how often they will access each other, is it a mistake to install skyrim and MO onto my SSD? Also, how would MO need to be set up to interact optimally (i.e. Skyrim on SSD and MO on HD; Skyrim on SSD, MO on SSD, Mod library on HD; All on SSD) Thanks
Farmthat Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 SSDs are no longer a liability for standard uses.
ToJKa Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 Loading times will be noticeably shorter, other than that, i doubt it has much effect. And indeed modern SSD have as long usage ages as traditional HDDs.
Guest Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 Keep in mind that modern SSD can support a few terabytes of writes before losing a single sector (that then will be re-mapped.) The average life span (found on internet) is considered 10 years by writing 200Gb per day. And, no, you are not going to write such amount of data every day.
Nazzzgul666 Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 Nice to know, had thought about this as well, only save games though. The partition i've chosen for Skyrim on my HDD has 100 GB, and i have to clean it regularly from mods i don't use because it's full, didn't expect that when i installed Sykrim for the first time. So, even if it doesn't break, the size or better the prize for big SSDs might still play a little role
