DaXmAn Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 Honestly I don't know what's going on. I have 2G VRAM and 8G RAM. I run MSI Afterburner overlay to show how much VRAM game is using and value is approx. 1,2G And yet after I load the game, often I get black skin texture. When I move camera closer to PC, texture starts to appear (partially). Save reload doesn't work. I have to quit the game and load again. Also when texture load normaly and then I use racemenu command (I have latest RM version installed) I in most cases skin becomes black instantly. I have no idea now what is causing this. Texture is fine on hdd. If I open it in Gimp or another tool... Sometimes I also had similar problem with head instead of body, but in most cases body texture is "broken". Any ideas?
freddark Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 Just as an experiment, first make a copy of the body textures in question and put them somewhere safe. Then optimise the body textures in their correct folder and see what happens in game. If the problem persists then is something else and not VRAM issue. However my guess is always VRAM...
Andy14 Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 This can happen with the use of tri-files (morphs) of Bodyslide or Racemenu. Is the Texture in Racemenu correct?
DaXmAn Posted April 29, 2016 Author Posted April 29, 2016 As I wrote previously, also often, after I run Racemenu I get this effect. So before I run Racemenu body texture is fine, I execute showracemenu command, texture is fine for a moment and then becomes "black" For example I enter Racemenu once, everything is ok, I exit, I enter Racemenu second time, everything is ok, I exit again, and I enter RM for the third time and body skin become "black"... looks like random... Interesting is that my follower skin also get this effect, in the same time... UPDATE: @Andy14: man, I "love" you! I had femalebody.tri file in Skyrim\Data\meshes\actors\character\character assets !!! The file looks abandoned, because most of my mods are hardlinked, thanks to special shell extension I see which files are hardlinks which are not.. This one was not hardlinked so, I probably forget to remove it in the past. I removed it and tried to run Racemenu couple of times, and nothing bad happened... After I test it better I will tell you guys if this fix the problem for sure. Good to know just in case somebody will face the same problem. Thanks again Andy for good hint!!!
DaXmAn Posted May 2, 2016 Author Posted May 2, 2016 Ok, after some time, even I removed febalebody.tri I got this effect again... just so you know...
Mookeylama Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 i used to get that same effect (sorta black haze over body. black blocky square and diamond shapes ect) all the time till i started running SMCO on my game... http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/13529/? it keeps my texture sizes down. and with no quality loss (i've tested with many screenshots) for individual textures i put them in a separate folder i made, and run OT on it for a bit more control on dds size... http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/13529/? i bet if u check the textures of that body in your pics, it's probably quite large (20,000+kb maybe)
Andy14 Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 If the texture in the game in Racemenu is correct (perhaps weight change), then there are no errors with the texture. Then some morph into use or other manipulations by script (e.g. NetImmerse override). The bug itself is in Skyrim - not in the script or the morphs. If the VRAM insufficient for the textures, then the mesh is usually blue - like a tangentspace normalmap. @DaXmAn Do you have any armor, gloves etc. created with Bodyslide and "RaceMenu Morphs" checked?
ThatGuyJonus Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 The most likely cause is one of the body textures Diffuse/Normal/Etc. does not have mip maps generated.
DaXmAn Posted May 3, 2016 Author Posted May 3, 2016 Andy found that body texture had something fucked up with alpha channel. Theoretically after texture was saved again via GIMP problem was gone. I have to play a while Skyrim to confirm if this was the true issue.
Guest Vendayn Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Sometimes this can be a sign of hitting or going above the VRAM limit. As a test, I overloaded Skyrim with 4k textures ALL over. Did this through mod organizer so I could undo the changes. I was getting black NPC textures, my followers were going from black splotches all over their body, to going back to normal in interiors. And was getting other problems. The problem went away when I reverted back to my original Skyrim. Usually that is most common thing with vram limit, and 2gb of vram isn't very much if you have a high modded game. I had a 2gb video card for Skyrim that had a lot of issues (plus it was kinda old to begin with), which all went away when I upgraded to a newer 4gb video card.
DaXmAn Posted May 3, 2016 Author Posted May 3, 2016 Sometimes this can be a sign of hitting or going above the VRAM limit. In my first post I wrote that VRAM was used only in approx 55%, so in my case it was not VRAM issue
Ghost Anubis Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Had the same issue a while back, it was a problem with my sk.dds files that caused the black textures not vram. It has something to do with the way the light is being refracted on your character. If you have NMUBS then re-install it, if you don't, then download it.

DaXmAn Posted May 5, 2016 Author Posted May 5, 2016 Looks like is working, I loaded game couple of times already, I run RM many times, I loaded saves many times, no more black skin. So I guess problem is soved this time for good. Thank you very much Andy for your input!
