question regarding rule #12

Hey folks, I have a quick question about rule 12

"We are a free and open community; members requiring payment for mods, support, or putting anything behind a paywall will be removed without warning. Donation buttons/links to support an author is fine, so long as nothing is promised, given, or rewarded other than a sense of satisfaction for supporting an author or owner of content."

I'm not new to modding games (as in: download and install mods), however, skyrim is somewhat trolling me hard.

After several attempts in asking for help (without much success regarding skyrim) i am getting quite frustrated.

I am now thinking about making a small offer/competition. Something along the lines of "whoever helps the most to get my 'dream-skyrim' running, gets a steam gift for 15€ (or 5€ for second)."

That might help me to find someone who might be willing to walk me through the installation of quite some mods.

Question is: Is that allowed? And if not, would some variant of the idea be okay?

Cheers, smarenwolf

Yeah we have plenty of those going around and it's not against the rules but don't expect anyone to take up the offer. More than likely a person that takes up the offer of 'I will pay someone to do it for me' will be shunned. You're more likely to get someone to help for free. So, what exactly is your problem?

I cant really elaborate on that right now. Have been and will be out of town for a while. Just wanted to know about possible course of Action when im back.

Also, thanks for the answer! :)

Let me explain rule #12:

"We are a free and open community; members requiring payment for mods, support, or putting anything behind a paywall will be removed without warning. Donation buttons/links to support an author is fine, so long as nothing is promised, given, or rewarded other than a sense of satisfaction for supporting an author or owner of content. "

* here is my mod but you need a key and you have to send me money for it: banned
* I am going to help you but you have to pay me for it: banned
* I will do a mod for you but you have to pay me: banned
* I guys, I am doing mod, if you like them, please send me some money to sustain me doing mods, no requirement, do it only if you want: OK.
* I guys, I need support, here is my Patreon account for what I am doing, if you like it consider contributing to the development: OK
* I will make you gain tons of money, just send me this amount of money: BANNED
* Download this amazing payed game or join this amazing Adult MMO that requires on-game purchases! banned

So, to make it clear:
* You ask for money for something you did? Then do not publish it here.
* You do something, and you publish it for free: you can add a "support me" link, but only and only if, your mod is still free.

Could be that if no one answered your questions the people that saw it didn't have the knowledge to help or no one has seen it yet not everyone looks at the site 24 hours a day 7 days a week so getting a reply will not always be BOOM answered sometimes it might be tick tock tick tock tick tick BOOM. So if someone hasn't replied just wait a bit longer.

His quesiton is more if he can commission someone to do some work for him on the game. Last I checked that was frowned upon, and really unnecessary.

You would be better served if you went through and had several people help you resolve your problems. This would give you the confidence and ability to solve future problems. Try posting the problem again and give some time for some to help. Create or give link to your post (if here) for those here that see it to see if they can help you figure out your problem.

There is also various Skyrim modding tutorials all around the web that you can follow and get pretty good results and some experience in modding.. ;).

I don't think it's frowned up as much as one would think. Think of it like hiring a driver to drive you from and to work. If you have the money, do so, but sometimes you may need to get to some place and that person is of no avail. However, at some point when it comes to modding, he's going to have to figure this stuff on his own or ask for assistance when reading a mods description still leaves him in a confusing state. And that's just the thing about modding. It's not plug n play as one would hope it would be. If it was, everyone's problems would nearly be solved and it wouldn't be as technical as it really is. For most mods anyways. If you aren't willing to devote time to read and figure it out, modding isn't made for you.

I'm not judging if he's wanting to compensate someone's time to hold his hand through the process, but at some point if he ever decides to reinstall that game, he may find himself in a situation where it's up to him alone to figure it out.

If you follower through with what you are asking for, I would wait for someone who volunteers and take it to private messaging. While I said (to me at least) it may not be frowned upon as much as one might think, it could give the wrong kind of attention and send the wrong kind of message.

If I'm not mistaken, ritualclarity, someone else mentioned something similar to this a year or two back and we gave the same suggestion.

^^^^^

Exactly that. Keep in mind that mods change quite often. Even if it is perfect there are always some mod fixes or updates that are needed. If done wrong it can go horribly wrong. Without learning how to add mods and fix conflicts and such you will have to continue to pay someone to fix your game over and over and over again.

Yeah I think you're taking the rule the wrong way. The rule is in place so that people keep their mods free. You're not asking for money; you're offering it. If there's a rule against that, it's not this one.
