Crowzer Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Hello! As the tittle say I got a CTD with the new patch 1.3.47 just released on Steam, once I finished loading: CTD. I found why: it's related to the .INI files located in "My Documents\My games\Fallout4". If I remove these lines from Fallout4.ini or Fallout4Custom.ini [Archive]bInvalidateOlderFiles=1sResourceDataDirsFinal=sInvalidationFile= The game load fine and I can play but my character have no mods on her (invible body because I use CBBE, etc...). But if re-put the same lines, I get CTD. I never had any issues with the previous version. So what I need to do to play with mods on the 1.3.47 ?
Ventus2111 Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 After updating my F4SE, it's working for me. No CTDs and all mods seem to be working. But my .ini files look different. At Fallout4.ini it looks like [Archive]sResourceIndexFileList=Fallout4 - Textures1.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures2.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures3.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures4.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures5.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures6.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures7.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures8.ba2, Fallout4 - Textures9.ba2sResourceStartUpArchiveList=Fallout4 - Startup.ba2, Fallout4 - Shaders.ba2, Fallout4 - Interface.ba2SResourceArchiveList=Fallout4 - Voices.ba2, Fallout4 - Meshes.ba2, Fallout4 - MeshesExtra.ba2, Fallout4 - Misc.ba2, Fallout4 - Sounds.ba2, Fallout4 - Materials.ba2SResourceArchiveList2=Fallout4 - Animations.ba2sResourceDataDirsFinal=SGeometryPackageList=Fallout4 - Geometry.csgSCellResourceIndexFileList=Fallout4.cdxSResourceArchiveMemoryCacheList= Fallout4 - Misc.ba2, Fallout4 - Shaders.ba2, Fallout4 - Interface.ba2, Fallout4 - Materials.ba2 and at Fallout4Custom.ini [Archive]bInvalidateOlderFiles=1sResourceDataDirsFinal= Maybe changing your .ini files to that can help you.
jcanders Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 It's most likely an issue with some texture file. It took me quite a while to single out the 2 mods crashing F4 with the beta patch: Fallout IV -Gore Overhaul- 3.0: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/366/? (not fixed, but a solution is to delete 3 files) HD Retexture Pack - Miscellaneous Props: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/7003 (fixed since the Beta-patch) You should activate the mods, but rename the Textures-folder - if the game starts, you know it's one of the textures. Then you could try to find the problematic file and inform the author of the mod.

Here I was at the top of a building after killing the courser and my game kept crashing, deleted these gorebasebits_d.dds gorebasebits_n.dds gorebasebits_s.dds And it was fixed...for now. This game man... Edit: Of course there this dudes fix too steve40 SOLUTION: Load these two textures into Photoshop with the NVidia plugin: data\textures\gore\gorebasebits_s.dds data\textures\gore\gorehumanhead_n.dds and re-save them as 3Dc format with the option "use existing mipmaps" selected and it will stop the CTDs. I included gorehumanhead_n.dds because it was in uncompressed RGB format with a ridiculous filesize of 22Mb. Saving it as 3Dc brought it down to a more acceptable 5Mb in size.
Crowzer Posted February 1, 2016 Author Posted February 1, 2016 I don't use Fallout IV -Gore Overhaul and HD Retexture Pack. My .INI are new and generated by the launcher. When I put [Archive]bInvalidateOlderFiles=1sResourceDataDirsFinal= in my Fallout4Custom.ini it still crash... Same witch Fallout4.ini and even with F4SE updated.
Guest Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Crowzer did you check to see if your Fallout 4 local file was touched? I mean, I don't know how it would but worth a check if you haven't already : /
Crowzer Posted February 1, 2016 Author Posted February 1, 2016 As I said my Fallout4.ini and Fallout4Prefs.ini are generated by the launcher. Maybe I need to add a specific line to get my mods work ? But [Archive]bInvalidateOlderFiles=1sResourceDataDirsFinal= Make my game crash.
Crowzer Posted February 1, 2016 Author Posted February 1, 2016 Ok! I finally know where the issue is come from. This is "Toaster_s.dds" making my game crash, it is located in C:\Games\Steam Games\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Data\Textures\props. But I don't know what is the mod it from. @speedynl I buy the game quite early (january 2016) so this is my first update.

I uninstalled Gore Overhaul (just to make sure), and now the game seems to load fine without CTD. Makes sense too, since I was trying to load in Covenant, where I had just finished killing everyone and then eating their corpses so Strong would idolize me, lol.
LaEspada Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Was wondering why I was crashing, guess I'll try uninstalling gore overhaul

Crowzer Posted February 3, 2016 Author Posted February 3, 2016 Thank! I was pretty sure I didn't installed this mod.
Guest Mogie56 Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 It'l be nice when they release the CK/GECK so proper mods can be made from the ones out now. all sorts of unexpected things seem to be happening and with each update from Beth. they seem to intensify. I've stopped getting CTD's for the most part but I've learned to stay out of Sanctuary. what mods I do use tend to revert any Power Armor I have there from which ever upgrades I've done to rusty T-45 and they tend to lose parts as well if I leave and come back. Now I store any Power Armor I'm not using at Red Rocket. Haven't as yet found which mod is causing it. Stop one thing and something else pops up LOL
BoondockSaint Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 If you check other forums -nexus, official beth forums and so- almost everybody suffers CTDs since the v1.3.47 update. Until then, the game was (with 1.1 and 1.2) decently stable. I bet It's more the update than a mod/texture to blame.
Benmc20 Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 There is something esle who can produce instant CTD if entering workshop mode (my precise case) : http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/3727545-workshop-crash/&do=findComment&comment=34108515 (give checksteel some kudos because he has found this solution after one full day for me without any luck)
BoondockSaint Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 For me, the CTDs happen when a notice appears on the screen (like a level up, a perk gained because of a companion, after acepting a quest...). Also radomly during gameplay. I'm going to downgrade to v1.2 until Bethesda fix that mess.
Icpmcp Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 My game crashes too but only when I fast travel to Revere Beach station. I went there with the Minuteman quest to kill the Raiders there so that a Settlement on the other side of the map can live in peace. Also traveling there by foot also resulted into a crash when I got ~30 meters close to the mission target. Afterwards I deactivated the Minuteman quest and activated another one that told me to go to Hardware Town to search for paint. Haven't crashed anywhere else yet. I'll add my plugins.txt in case someone who could know whats going on wants to see it. Could Quests be a reason for a CTD ? Because when I tried going to Hardware Town without the quest to get paint active I didn't crash when entering the building. plugins.txt

And original game's ESM on top of the ESM Second : verify if some of your plugins don't cause any problems. like, for example, Crafting Workbenches. Edit > I've upploaded my own load order (NMM extract). So, you can see an example of a somewhat correct loadorder.LoadOrder_Fallout4_2016-02-04T18-49-12.txt

And original game's ESM on top of the ESM Second : verify if some of your plugins don't cause any problems. like, for example, Crafting Workbenches. I checked all game file folders now and found a single .dds texture file. It had the Name "nWkzt_d.dds" but it wasn't in any of the folders from mods(I checked all folders that I downloaded and a file with that name was nowhere to be seen. The image was directly inside the Texture folder.) Validating the game files didn't remove the file even though it was not set to read-only. All the other files that didn't belong to the original game were removed. After I deleted this single file everything worked fine. Weird.
NazWeed Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Similar problem here, the game crashes in seconds after the new update when I enter the game.
BoondockSaint Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Just check your interface directory and remove all SWF files here, save those used by Full Dialogue Overhaul (if you use this mod of course), and retry. I don't have any 'interface' directory. The only mods I use are FAR and OVT (texture optimizers). I tried even deleting the INI files (to make the game creating new 'vanilla' ones). Still CTDs. Again, I downgraded to v1.2 and my game is stable again. I'll try the next update.
Benmc20 Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Check this then : http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/3708890-known-textures-causing-ctds-with-the-beta-patch/ Some texture mods have huge problems with the current update because they dont follow the requirements of the game.
seetruck-2000 Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Hello, Everyone I have had similar problems my self but I deleted a key binding mod that contains the workshop.swf. I could not access the workshop with CTD, once the mod was deleted everything went normal again. The mod in question is (SouthPaw UI-5580-1-0) I found it on Nexus and it changed the key binding for me which I liked but can't use it now. Hope this helps someone.
NazWeed Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 I deleted my whole textures folder. Barley helped.
