Possible Upgrade

GPU or  Mobo/Processor

GPU is giving me some trouble , it caught fire once   :s

Prices wont match like in the US or the West , so price is irrelevant , but its all expensive ...in the end

1.But is it worth Buying a gtx 970 4g , will my Current Mobo/processor limit it  ? What if I go for a more higher end card ?

2. is a i5 4690k worth it ?

3. A or gtx 980 ti

But here is the Dilemma

i5 4690k with a Mobo + gtx 970

Costs the nearly  same

as ONE gtx 980 ti

Need some Help with this

Cheers

Hi Zaz,

I guess a couple questions that may help you to decide.

1. What is your budget?

2. What is your goal? (ie be able to run a game like Skyrim at 1920x1080 using ENB at x fps)

As reference I ordered the below system last year since my budget was about $1000USD and I am pretty happy with it since I can run Skyrim at 1920x1080 with 4k textures and ENB between 29-40 fps.

I use the site http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-gpus,4380.html since I'm not willing to spend for the top of line gpus anymore and am ok with performance of the next tier mid-range cards.

That site is rather helpful when upgrading pc.

For your rig, i would just buy gtx970 and ssd-harddisk if you dont have one allready. Not sure about your powersupply but that gtx970 uses about same amount power as your radeon but you should check that too just in case.

Or completely new rig, i dont have experience about recent amd-processors but ~3.5GHz sure sounds good enough.

Im thinking about upgrading too but ill wait and see what comes out of oculusrift and other vr-headsets, those damn things seems to need a monster-gpu   :s

assuming your power supply will support it i would go for the better GPU as i doubt you will see any noticeable gain in upgrading the CPU at the moment and in gaming its the GPU doing most of the heavy lifting

Edit: Seems ebuyer might have been thinking of you and if you aren't that dedicated to switching to nvidea there is Sapphire Nitro R9 380 4GB GDDR5 DVI-I DVI-D HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Graphics card on sale for £149.99 http://www.ebuyer.com/730576-sapphire-nitro-r9-380-4gb-gddr5-dvi-i-dvi-d-hdmi-displayport-pci-e-graphics-11242-13-20g

Two of those cross-fired would be pretty sweet although if you are after a single card then something like MSI Radeon R9 390X Gaming 8GB GDDR5 Dual-Link DVI-D HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Graphics Card for £339.99 http://www.ebuyer.com/714725-msi-radeon-r9-390x-gaming-8gb-gddr5-dual-link-dvi-d-hdmi-displayport-pci-e-r9-390x-gaming-8g

Also looks quite good and you do have a AMD CPU already
