Does the body you are using in the conversion have the same bone nodes in it that the original has?

If the body doesn't have the same bones then that'll cause you to crash.

Make copies before doing this.

Another thing you can try is to load both of the pant nifs up into nifskope and go to spells - optimize - remove bogus nodes then save as to overwrite the nif as the pants have some nodes in them that are really not needed as there is no upper body in the mesh as well as they are pants. If you do that it'll clear out 19 nodes.

I think so, I'm relatively new to conversions and thus have very little experience.

I've tried copying over the bone weights and that did not solve the problem, tho there were unweighted portions of the outfit when I tried to save the work.

Unweighted means that spot is too far away from any bone node you must export it then load it back up click the pants then go to bone node and start clicking on bone nodes till you find the one closest to the non weighted spot and then hold down the mouse button to paint it.

To see all non weight painted spots you can click the pants then go to shape - mask weighted vertices. Everything that turns black is weighted the stuff that doesn't isn't weighted. Once you see where the bad spots are reload it and start weight painting.
